        In Memoriam Felis Felis

(Leamington Spa): Sixth Chamber Press, (1989). (Leamington Spa): Sixth Chamber Press. (1989). First. First edition. Six illustrations by R.B. Kitaj. Illustrated papercovered boards. Very slightly rubbed, near fine in fine publisher's unprinted acetate dustwrapper. One of 200 unnumbered copies. This copy Inscribed to Herb Yellin: "For Herb and his fantastic collection with every good wish, John 9/25/90." Herb Yellin was the founder and publisher of Lord John Press and the most frequent of Updike's fine press collaborators. He named his press after noting that the list of authors he wanted to publish all shared the same first name, chief among them John Updike, his favorite. Hub Fans Bid Kid Adieu became the press's first book in 1977 with 10 more to follow over the next 23 years. Yellin's friendship with Updike grew with each new limited edition benefitting his already enormous Updike collection, with Updike himself contributing copies of new editions of his books - often inscribed. In a 2010 interview with Yellin he noted that Updike "...liked that if anything ever happened to his own collection, he had my collection on the opposite side of the country." A notable association. .

        Granville Redmond

Oakland Museum, Oakland, CA 1989 - First Edition. Quarto. (xv), 111 pages. Chronology and Bibliography. With essays by Harvey Jones and Mary Jean Haley, and a biographical chronology by Mildred Albronda. Beautiful color reproductions of Granville Redmond's drop-dead gorgeous landscape paintings. Black cloth in color printed dustjacket. A fine copy, as new. Granville Redmond received his art training in San Francisco and Paris. He painted in a distinctive personal style, inspired by French Barbizon and Impressionist exemplars as well as the great American artists George Inness and James McNeill Whistler and California painters such as William Keith and Arthur Mathews. Mr. Redmond's paintings are truly a celebration of the California landscape. Especially notable are his noctures and dimly lighted scenes, which because of the artist's accuracy of memory reveal pictorial truths athat would elude a more casual observer. This is a catalog of an exhibition held at the Oakland Museum, the Laguna Art Museum and at Gallaudet University, 1988-1989. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Triptych August 1972, 1989 (Right panel)

      - Lithograph, 1989, signed and numbered from the edition of 180, 61 x 89.5 cm This work is generally considered one in a series of Black Triptychs which followed the suicide of Bacon's lover, George Dyer. Dyer appears on the left and Bacon is on the right. The central group is derived from a photograph of wrestlers by Edward Muybridge, but also suggests a more sexual encounter. The seated figures and their coupling are set against black voids and the central flurry has been seen as 'a life-and-death struggle'. The artist's biographer wrote: 'What death has not already consumed seeps incontinently out of the figures as their shadows.'

Archive of materials

1989. MENENDEZ, Eric. Diary and archive of materials. Los Angeles, 1988-89. One 9-3/4 x 7-1/2-inch composition notebook, with notes, letters, and related papers. $5500.Diary and archive of letters and related materials once belonging to Eric Menendez, who, along with his brother, was convicted of the 1989 murders of their parents. On August 20, 1989, 21-year-old Lyle Menendez called 911 and told the operator that he and his 18-year-old brother Erik, both of whom were aspiring professional tennis players, had returned home to find that their parents had been shot and killed. Jose and Kitty Menendez had been shot multiple times at point-blank range. In 1992, the brothers were indicted for the murders; their 1993 trial, which was broadcast by the new Court TV network, ended with separate juries for each brother deadlocked between finding them guilty of murder or of manslaughter. Lyle and Erik were found guilty of murder in a second trial, spanning the fall of 1995 and winter of 1996, and are now serving life sentences in prison. The Menendez family had previously lived in Calabasas, California; they moved to Beverly Hills in 1988 after Erik plead guilty to burglarizing the homes of parents of his schoolmates, stealing an estimated $100,000 in cash and jewelry. Lyle was also implicated in the burglaries, but Erik’s guilty plea as a juvenile shielded Lyle from legal action.A $1.69 composition notebook signed by Menendez in pencil on the front cover contains his journal, which was started one day before the Menendez family moved to 722 Elm Drive in Beverly Hills, the house in which the murders of his parents took place. In it Menendez discusses losing his virginity, renewing his tanning salon membership, modeling, playing tennis, and the possibilities of having sex with the two girls he is dating. Notably missing, with some brief exceptions, are references to his brother Lyle (“An hour late because Lyle has changed my car clock to right time.”) and his parents (“Steve and Cig showed up at 1:00 AM and my dad told Cig that if Cig ever shows up at this house again he is going to beat the shit out of him.”). The last entry is on June 18, 1989, two months before the murders.Five letters sent to Menendez in prison from schoolmates and friends from the tennis circuit express support for the jailed teenager: Ed: “I hope you win your case. Soon. This 8 months w/o bail is a joke.” Dave: “Never think that I’m not on your side. In fact sometimes I think that the power of my conviction alone is strong enough to pull you out of the arms of those who would hurt you… I believe with all my heart that you & Lyle will be absolved of this insane affair.” Casey: “It’s so funny how so many reporters blow everything out of proportion, don’t sweat it.” Andy: “I want you out of jail whether or not you did it. I don’t care if you did it and I don’t care if you were to do it again to me… Call me. My parents are on your side. They love you, always have.”Also included are two sets of dental x-rays; one Polaroid photo; one booking sheet for modeling with a California talent agency; a program from a senior show at Beverly Hills High School in which Menendez appeared as a model; a letter, cards and a note from female school friends; the receipt stub for his senior yearbook photo; a fragment of a note written by Menendez to a friend about AIDS; a photocopy of a letter he sent to a former girlfriend explaining why he had to break up with her. An unusual and unique collection.

SOCIÉTÉ PARADISIAQUE: OU LE REVE HÉLATEUR D'UN HYPERGRAPHE SENSIBLE.|LA

Paris: L'Inéditeur, 1989. folio. cloth portfolios. Unpaginaged. 5 volumes. This set is one of an edition of 10 numbered copies in a total edition of 21 copies. 25 Original photographs by Albert Dupont. Preface by Isidore Isou.Contains 25 original photographs handcolored and worked by Dupont on Arches paper. All signed by Dupont. Each volume contains 5 photographs illustrating texts and manifests of Dupont. Volumes also contain a small camera, binoculars, compass, hologram and various assorted items all in their own folders. Each portfolio is in a different colored board folder red, cerise, yellow, blue and green. Each slipcase has a portion of the title on the spine and is in the same colors as the portfolio boards, but not the matching portfolio, so the effect is even more vibrant. This title comes from a new concept in the social and economic field of the Lettrist Group, which aims at an ideal society based only upon creation and innovation as major values of society, instead of our actual society; ethos based upon work and collectivity, whether in socialism or for profit. In this major work Dupont is expressing his wish fulfillment for his ideal society La Societé Parodisiaque. The volumes contain photography, lettrist, hypergraphic (with signs) infinitesimal (based upon imagination), and the supertemporal (public participation) all explained and shown by different statements of Dupont. The 25 photographs have titles which are either word play or poetic names used for different artists whom Dupont admires, such as The magnetic field André Breton, Eros vertigo Matta, and erotic book without orthograph Arthur Rimbaud, and others. The preface is by Isidore Isou who is the founder of Lettrism. Dupont wanted every photograph to be different and innovative to express his own style and they include drawings, jokes, mystery, manipulation, new materials, objects, letters, codes, signs, light, sound, hologram, kaleidoscope and also of course fun in the style of Man Ray, whom he considers as a reference as photographer and creative artist.

20 Poemas de Amor y 1 Cancion Desesperada

Kaldewey Press, Poestenkill, NY 1989 - Oblong folio. 106pp. One of twenty deluxe copies printed on papier de Chine and bound in flexible blue textured leather by Christian Zwang. With twenty-five linoleum cuts in several colors by Kim Keever. Signed by the artist. Keever's linocuts draw directly from the theme of love, with imagery of women and men and handwritten text. These are displayed to greatest effect in this deluxe edition, as the translucent Chinese paper allows the text and images to show through. Designed and printed by Gunnar Kaldewey, who combines the traditional with the experimental, bringing together the work of an early twentieth-century poet with the techniques and ideas of the late twentieth-century artist. In this work, Kaldewey utilizes an inventive index format in which the pages for each poem are one inch wider than the poem before, allowing for each section to be accessed easily and directly. The title page, as it were, is printed letter by letter across these tabs. Housed in a grey chemise and slipcase. Very fine. (Edition Kaldewey 15). [Attributes: Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
