1988. Complete 24-volume set of African hunting books, the African Collection, published by Briar Patch Press. These are the deluxe versions, hand-numbered #329 out of only 500 sets produced and sold worldwide, except for NILE TRIBUTARIES, which is #22, and all come with linen-covered slipcases. I have an original advertisement from the publisher: "Bound in top-grain cowhide and individually numbered, the deluxe version sells for $. ... All books are printed on high-quality, acid-free paper, featuring hand-marbled end papers, gold stamping and raised hubs and spines." Also, with silken page marker. Most of these volumes contain very impressive illustrations and some have large fold-out maps. These volumes contain accounts of adventures and big game hunting that one simply cannot experience for oneself in this day and age, and therefore are perfect for armchair hunters or adventurers. These books have signs of mild wear/rubbing/fading/use. The prior owner enjoyed them and the leather has been polished and/or maintained. Really, most of the books are in very good or near fine condition. The photos reveal how handsome these books look when shelved together. Charles J. Andersson, Lake Ngami. xl, 545 pages. [Guildford Four] McKee, Grant / Franey, Ros / Kee, Robert / Conlon, Gerry / Hill, Paul.
London, Bloomsbury / Hamish Hamilton / Penguin / Doubleday, 1988 - 1990. Octavo. 233, 286, 284, 495, 495 pages. All publications in their original Hardcover or Softcover-Bindings (The title „Time Bomb" is included here in two binding variations with different covers). Excellent condition with only minor signs of external wear. The Volume „Proved Innocent" by Gerry Conlon is signed and inscribed by Gerry Conlon on the titlepage: „Free at Last ....." The Guildford Four and the Maguire Seven were the collective names of two groups whose convictions in English courts in 1975 and 1976 for the Guildford pub bombings of 5 October 1974 were eventually quashed after long campaigns for justice. The Guildford Four were wrongly convicted of bombings carried out by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA), and the Maguire Seven were wrongly convicted of handling explosives found during the investigation into the bombings. Both groups' convictions were eventually declared „unsafe and unsatisfactory" and reversed in 1989 and 1991 respectively after they had served up to 15-16 years in prison. Along with the Maguires and the Guildford Four, a number of other people faced charges against them relating to the bombings, six of them charged with murder, but these charges were dropped. No one else was charged with the bombings, or supplying the material; three police officers were charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, and found not guilty. (Wikipedia)

Pessoa, Fernando; Monteiro, George (Translator); Feldman, Walter (Artist)
Providence, R.I. Ziggurat Press, [1988]. Feldman, Walter. Limited Edition. Limited edition, number IV of four Artist's Proof copies (total edition 24), folio size, [24] pp., signed by George Monteiro and Walter Feldman. Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935) is considered one of the greatest poets of Portugal. "Blessed (and burdened) with a family name that means both person and persona, the poet took to addressing letters to himself that he attributed to an imaginary companion he recognized as 'Le Chevalier de Pas.' He wrote his early poems in English, under his first alter ego or heteronym, Alexander Search; his other major heteronyms were Alvaro de Campos, Alberto Caeiro, and Ricardo Reis. 'Fernando Pessoa's true life was the interior life of the poet and thinker. What happened to him in the streets, in the Lisbon cafes, in the offices of the firms he served as correspondent, as polemicist - political and artistic - in the journals, or as the would-be lover of a young typist called Ophelia (so aptly named, for this writer with a Hamlet complex) - all this pales before the reality of his interior life, a far and distant land, the bulletins from which are his essays, journals, stories and, above all, poems.
