UPDIKE, John
Sixth Chamber Press, (Leamington Spa), 1989. First edition. Six illustrations by R.B. Kitaj. Quarter cloth and papercovered boards. Fine in a lightly rubbed, near fine illustrated slipcase. This conforms to the issues of 1/26 lettered copies but is unlettered and Signed by both Updike and Kitaj, presumably this is one of an additional six copies so bound and reserved for the publisher. Inscribed by Updike to Herb Yellin: "for Herb, Kitaj's work is for the birds but maybe it all goes together. Best, John." Herb Yellin was the founder and publisher of Lord John Press and the most frequent of Updike's fine press collaborators. He named his press after noting that the list of authors he wanted to publish all shared the same first name, chief among them John Updike, his favorite. *Hub Fans Bid Kid Adieu* became the press's first book in 1977 with 10 more to follow over the next 23 years. Yellin's friendship with Updike grew with each new limited edition benefitting his already enormous Updike collection, with Updike himself contributing copies of new editions of his books - often inscribed. In a 2010 interview with Yellin he noted that Updike ".liked that if anything ever happened to his own collection, he had my collection on the opposite side of the country." A notable association. Voguing and the house ballroom : Scene of New-York 1989-92. Service de livraison : Colissimo Recommandé Voguing came dut of the extraordinary house ballroom scene that emerged in Harlem, New Yark in the 1980s in which African-American and Latino gay and transgender communities competed against one another for their dancing skills, the verisimilitude of their drag and their ability to walk down the runway like a model. Voguing erupted into the mainstream in 1990 when Madonna's song Vogue became number one in over 30 countries. The year before ex-Sex Pistols' svengali Malcolm McClaren first brought voguing into the cultural milieu with his song Deep in Vogue, which featured the dancer Willi Ninja. In 1990 Jennie Livingstone's film Paris is Buming documented the house ballroom scene in its ascendant, the filma runaway success grossing over $4,000,000. As voguing entered into the mainstream the house ballrooms of Harlem came downtown, mixing with the fashion crowd of Manhattan, before the onslaught of the Aids epidemic ravaged the ballroom community. These wild years of voguing and the house ballroom scene are vividly captured at its height in hundreds of amazing, previously unpublished photographs. A visual riot of fashion, gender, polysexuality and subversive style, Voguing and the House Ballroom Scene of New York 1989-92 is also a fascinating document on sexuality and race. Photographer Chantal Regnault captured the scene at its height. The legendary houses: House of LaBeija, House of Xtravaganza, House of Pendavis, House of Dupree; and their legendary 'mothers': Peppa LaBei … [Click Below for Full Description]

PARKER, Robert B. and Joan
Warner Brothers Television, Burbank, California, 1989. Five screenplays. Quartos. 58pp, 59pp., 60pp., 55pp., and 55pp., with two groups of additional revisions laid in of 15pp., and 4pp., respectively. Bradbound in red studio wrappers, each with various color sheets: white, blue, red, yellow, green, and "buff." Near fine with some light wear at the edges. A collections of five versions of the screenplay for the *Spenser: For Hire* spin-off television series, *A Man Called Hawk*, based on the Robert B. Parker character played by Avery Brooks. The scripts include: "First Draft" (1/27/89), "Final Draft" (2/9/89), "Revised Final Draft" (2/10/89), "2nd Revised Final Draft" (2/14/89), and another "2nd Revised Final Draft" with two separate groups of loose sheets laid in, each with additional changes (2/21/89 and 2/22/89). Together the scripts show the difficult development process that television scripts undergo and are particularly interesting in revealing Parker's involvement with this story penned along with his wife Joan. The episode, first titled "White Poison," was originally broadcast on March 25, 1989 as "Poison." Screenplays for *Spenser: For Hire* are available on the market, with copies written by Parker notably scarcer. We have seen no other screenplays of *A Man Called Hawk*, let alone several versions of the sole episode written by Parker. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
