        The Seven Lady Godivas

New York:: Random House,, 1987. New York: Random House, 1987. First edition of the re-issue of this classic Dr. Seuss title. Inscribed by the author, "For Jennifer with best wishes Dr. Seuss" Near fine in a very good dust jacket.Referring to his recent children's books and advertisements for Flit and Essomarine, Seuss explained that The Seven Lady Godivas was written 'to escape the monotony of writing about nothing but men folks and children, dragons or fish'… In his college studies of Tennyson, Seuss may well have come across the 1842 poem 'Godiva.' During his time in England after Dartmouth, he no doubt came across the legend again. The theme of the Lady Godiva story-championing the rights of the common man-is what links this 'adult' book to his 'children's' stories and his political cartoons" (Cohen, 195).

        American Prospects

Houston:: Times Books,, 1987. Houston: Times Books, 1987. First Edition. Oblong quarto. Fine in a near fine dust jacket that shows a small closed tear. Signed by Sternfeld. A very sharp copy. Roth 101; Parr & Badger; The Photobook: A History Vol.II,Joel Sternfeld's work is considered a classic amongst photography, having permanently enhanced the face of color photography. "American Prospects is less a composed sequence than a series of deceptively classical compositions. But many of the pictures contain wild juxtapositions: firefighters extinguish a blaze while one of their number shops nonchalantly for pumpkins matching the flames; a basketball hoop stands sentry in a new suburban dead end; pretty flowers shimmer alongside a sports car in the same wild pink. The idealized semirural life is really a world of uncanny disquiet, perfectly suited to the still and mute image" (Aperture Magazine).

Philosophia Data A Domino Geoffroy, Philosophiae professore In Collegio Mazarinae Et scripta A francisco De Lusseux Anno Domini MDCCXXV'.

Brockliss, French Higher Education in the 16th and 17th Century, 1987). (S. 1). D'Alemberts Lehrer war in diesen Jahren eben jen [Attributes: Hard Cover]

        In the Street

Duke University Press,, 1987. Duke University Press, 1987. First edition of the photographer's second major photobook. Large quarto, original cloth. Signed by Helen Levitt on the title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Not to be confused with the more common paperback edition. Helen Levitt and the author James Agee first collaborated in 1945 on a documentary film set in Harlem, called "In the Street". Psychologist Robert Coles contribited the essays to this volume.Owen Edwards from The New York Times has noted that "[i]n common situations Miss Levitt finds the glint of an often bizarre beauty that most of us-including photographers-do not notice. . . . She brings to her pictures an intensity that can be almost hypnotic." "There is no fundamental difference in the great landscapes and quiet portraits of Edward Weston and the profoundly revealing pictures of children by Helen Levitt. Both are photographic perceptions of the highest order" (Ansel Adams).

Since that is impossible, they developed poetic descriptions. These descriptions were printed on this broadside with color swatches hand-painted underneath.         The Neon Rain

Henry Holt|~| NY: Henry Holt. (1987). The uncorrected proof copy of the first book in the acclaimed and award-winning Dave Robicheaux mystery series. Signed by the author, twice, on two different occasions, or at least in two different pens: the proof has a half title both preceding and following the title page, and it would have been easy to flip the proof open and assume it to be unsigned. Staple at two outer corners; minor vertical crease and mild sunning to covers; near fine in wrappers. Publication date of March 27, '87 written across the bottom front cover. The Robicheaux series has been acclaimed as the most literary series of its kind; its location, New Iberia, Louisiana, plays an important role in the books, both in terms of its geography and its history, politics and culture. The Robicheaux character is a Vietnam vet and a recovering alcoholic, and the series is steeped in unremitting violence. Burke has won two Edgar Awards, one of them for Black Cherry Blues, the third Robicheaux book. This, the proof of the author's breakthrough book, is scarce, especially signed. . First Edition.
