Snyder, Gary. (Celeste Wright
North Point Press, 1986. 1st edition, full green cloth, with illustrated dust jacket. The author's own copy, with annotations in his hand, beautifully inscribed to fellow poet and colleague, Celeste Wright, at U.C. Davis where both were professors for many years. Snyder's annotations include his signature "Gary Snyder copy" and his address, phone number, and various page markings in red ink. Snyder has additionally corrected two errors to the text in pencil, and recorded these errors on the colophon page. Overall the book and dust jacket show very minimal wear. A remarkable association and true 'Presentation Copy' of the author's own copy. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; In Dust Jacket]

BOHR, NIELS. [translator:] PROFESSOR GE GE. - [WITH DEDICATION FROM THE TRANSLATOR]
Shanghai, Huadong shifan daxue chubanshe, 1986 - 2001. 8vo. 10 volumes, all in publisher's uniform full cloth bindings with gilt lettering to spines and front boards. All volumes with presentation inscription from the translator to Niels Bohr's son, Ernest Bohr: "To Mr. Ernest Bohr with / highest respect from / GeGe". First Chinese, and overall, translation of 'Niels Bohr Collected Works' with dedication inscription from the translator ot Bohr's son Ernest Bohr. Translator Prof. Ge Ge found Bohr’s personality and mode of thinking in harmony with traditional Chinese culture, which may be part of the explanation for his lifelong dedication to Niels Bohr and his work, and his great effort to translate and publish the only non-English edition of the Niels Bohr Collected Works in existence today. The first volume in English had appeared in 1972, and Ge Ge was able to publish a Chinese translation in 1986, fourteen years later.Ge Ge’s enthusiasm not only led to the Collected Works being published with impressive promptness in China, but no doubt provided additional motivation for the Director of the Niels Bohr Archive to prepare the volumes faster. In this way, Ge Ge had an influence even on the publication of the original edition. In 2001 Ge Ge received the prestigeousDanish Order of the Dannebrog "for hiscontribution to increasing the Chinese understanding of Danish science and promoting the Denmark-China scientific cooperation. He was in fact able to translate all the volumes of the Collected Works, th … [Click Below for Full Description]

8vo. 22 volumes, a run. Original stiff covers and printed wrappers. Numerous photographic plates and other illustrations (many of them folding or tipped-in) throughout each volume. Fine in fine dust-wrappers. Matrix is a fabulous celebration of all things concerned with printing. This run would make a sound base on which to build a collection. Contributors include Enid Marx, Ruari McLean, Michael Taylor, Simon Lawrence, Alan Powers and Fiona MacCarthy. The contents include articles on the Nonesuch and Golden Cockerel Presses, Robert Gibbings, Pochoir and Evelyn Waugh and the Private Press World. A gallimaufry indeed.

Maps 997-1936. Titel part 3. Commentary to the maps. Total index. Quotation from the introduction: In 1950 Eric Hulten published Atlas oever vaexternas utbredning i Norden (Atlas of the Distribution of Vascular Plants in NW. Europe). A revised edition was issued in 1971, comprising in all 1930 distribution maps. This atlas was followed by a wide-ranging project aiming at a presentation of the total distribution of the North European vascular plants. According to this plan Hulten began with The Amphi-Atlantic Plants, published in 1958 (reprinted in 1973) in Kungl. Svenska Vetenskapsakademiens handlingar, 4th ser., vol. 7, no. 1. This work contains 278 distribution maps. The next issue in this project was The Circumpolar Plants, part I in 1962 (reprinted in 1964) and part II in 1971. They contain together 529 maps. However, the extensive project mentioned above was further developed. A considerable amount of distributional data were compiled and recorded on maps, in all 1936 in number. In these the above-mentioned amphi-atlantic and circumpolar plant maps were included. They have later been revised and completed by the editor. The selection of the mapped taxa was made by Hulten. Many of the 193 … [Click Below for Full Description]

WEBER, Bruce
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1986. Deluxe Edition. Large quarto. One of 100 unnumbered copies issued in slipcase, presumably for Weber. SIGNED by Weber in the year of publication and briefly inscribed to a makeup artist he worked with, Bonnie Maller: "un grande abraço / to Bonnie / mjuch love / Bruce / Bruce Weber / 1986." Aside from a copy sold at Christie's London in 2011, I have only seen two copies of the deluxe edition. Weber's highly stylized paean to Rio: a jumbled mix of light reportage and high end fashion photography; with several gatefolds. (Roth 254-255). Small stain at the top of the spine, otherwise fine copy in photo-illustrated wrappers, very good photo-illustrated slipcase with rubbing at the corners and extremities, and a few stains. 1986. A complete run in three issues of the occasionally published journal from Gene Fellner, issues 18-38 pp., each issue comprised of a single illustrated essay focused on one topic, titles are "On Nicaragua", "John Brown and the Issue of Terrorism", and "Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman", nos. 1 and 2 written and illustrated by Gene Fellner, no. 3 written by Howard Zinn with illustrations by Gene Fellner, all three designed by Marcy Kass, footnotes. Illustrated. Small square 8vo. Original illustrated wrpps. Some minor wear and rubbing. Hoboken, New York (Four Walls Eight Windows) 1986-1987. After getting his teaching certification, Gene Fellner joined the Attica Brothers Legal Defense, the organization defending the 61 prisoners accused of leading the 1971 Attica Prison riot. Years later, after the trials had concluded, he began his career as an artist but continued his activist work, even traveling to Nicaragua in the 1980s to support the Nicaraguan Revolution. In 1986, Fellner was named Distinguished Artist of New Jersey by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Of GLF Occasional, Fellner wrote: "The text is not intended to serve as captions for the artwork. The artwork is not intended to illustrate the text. Rather each medium, by itself, is intended to present you with a version of the same story. Together art and text should offer you a magazine that is both beautiful and confrontational, about art as well as about the world in which we live." Scarce; as of May 2018, WorldCat locates only three complete runs in North American institutions. [Attributes: Soft Cov … [Click Below for Full Description]

Bush, John Carder
Kent Kindlight 1986. First edition. Limited to 500 copies. A photobook recording moments from the singer, Kate Bush's childhood. Inscribed to somebody named Sue by Kate Bush, John Carder Bush, Paddy Bush and long time collaborator and partner of Kate Bush, Del Palmer. The book is firmly bound in oatmeal coloured cloth with the title in brown to the front board and spine, the boards are clean, the extremities are a little bumped and rubbed. The text block is very slightly toned with some minor marks. The cream coloured slip-case survives, it is quite rubbed and bumped with a split that has been repaired with sellotape. Rather a thrilling book to have on the shelf, I've seen one or two copies appear on the market signed by Kate Bush, obviously acquired at a later date by a fan, and I have seen copies inscribed by John Carder Bush, but I have never seen one fully inscribed by all the Bush siblings and Del Palmer. Sadly none of them have dated their inscriptions(though Paddy has added a doodle!), but it seems most likely that it would have occurred either in 1986, or fairly shortly after the publication.
