This striking, over-sized poster, 68 1/2 x 47 1/2 inches, was printed in an edition of about 50 copies, to be used as advertising for the New York City Opera in bus shelters. It depicts three typical Sendak figures, including a "Wild Thing," striking a pose, in costume, on a stage. Repaired 1 inch tear near bottom right corner. Not in Hanrahan. Very scarce.         The Color Purple

      New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Publishers, 1982. First edition. Hardcover. SIGNED. 245pp. Octavo [22 cm] 1/4 lavender cloth with beige paper covered boards. Very good. The extremities are mildly bumped and rubbed. The edges of the spine and covers are alternately slightly faded and darkened. The boards have very minor soiling and staining. The front board is just a little warped. The top edge of the text block is heavily foxed, and there are there are a dozen or so very small light stains on the fore and bottom edges of the text block. Very mild spine slant. The endsheets are ever so slightly foxed, and the pages are subtly yellowed. With a very good dust jacket. There are two short closed tears in the top edge. The longest closed tear measures 1/4 of an inch long. The rear panel is lightly scratched. There is a small amount of foxing on the top edge of the internal side of the dust jacket. Signed by Alice Walker on the half title page, and additionally inscribed by Alice Walker on a sheet of paper that has been tucked. The Color Purple was awarded the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award for Fiction.

      Ballantine Books / Del Rey, New York 1982 - First edition. Fine in fine dustwrapper. Inscribed by Arthur C. Clarke to his protege, one-time secretary, and longtime friend Ian Macauley, who was the dedicatee of his first hardcover novel (*Islands in the Sky*): "To Ian & Marnie & Simon, with my very best wishes. Arthur, 12 Nov. '82." Macauley was an award-winning *New York Times* journalist who also edited Clarke's book of collected essays, *Greetings, Carbon-Based Bipeds!* (2000). Clarke wrote the last chapter of *Childhood's End* while visiting Macauley in Atlanta in 1952, where he was reportedly greatly influenced by their discussions. Basis for the 1984 film, written and directed by Peter Hyams, and featuring Roy Scheider, John Lithgow, Helen Mirren, Bob Balaban, and Keir Dullea (reprising his role from Stanley Kubrick's classic *2001: A Space Odyssey*).         Legs, Billy Phelan's Greatest Game, Ironweed

      New York: Viking, 1982. Uncorrected proofs of the first editions of each of the author's first three novels in the acclaimed Albany Cycle. Octavo, original wrappers. 3 volumes. Each are signed by the author. Legs is in near fine condition. Billy Phelan's Greatest Game has some spots on the front panel, else near fine. Ironweed is in fine condition without wear. Kennedy won the Pulitzer Prize for Ironweed in 1984, and he wrote the screenplay for the 1987 film adaptation directed by Hector Babenco, which starred Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. The film was mostly shot in Albany. The film was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (for Nicholson) and Best Actress in a Leading Role (for Streep). Kennedy's writing continues to paint an ever elaborate picture of the unique city Albany, New York.

The price intact, crisp and clean dustjacket has just a touch of the lower spine end bluing to the green (much less than normal), and a couple of very tiny edge nicks at the flap fold ends, but is otherwise in excellent condition. A lovely copy of this classic which was made into the movie 'Field Of Dreams' and which won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature. In fact only 2 sets were produced then due to lack of interest at the set price. In 1993, at the bequest of The Abandoned Planet Bookstore, 3 other sets were produced making a total of only 5 published. These 2 photographs (16" x 20") have each been SIGNED by Bukowski and Montfort and are numbered 3/50. In addition, Bukowski has annotated each photograph in red ink. The images are: 1) Bukowski seated in his apartment before a table full of alcohol remnants and wildly gesturing captioned "Living the Good Life" and 2) Bukowski lying down in a cemetery before a grave stone captioned "Just Kidding." Laid in is a letter from the bookseller explaining how he got Montfort to print these photographs and Bukowski to sign them in the hospital where he was dying of leukemia.

About personal matters but primarily concerned with making corrections in an interview eventually published in the Webster Review in 1985. Mentions Kipling, Dickens, Trollope, and others, as well as his being president of the British Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Regarding his WATERSHIP DOWN and a character from De la Mare's THE THREE MULLA-MULGARS, Adams says, "Nod & Fiver are similar in remaining weak, but in developing authority as their story develops. I did not say that Fiver's vision of man derived from the Nod-Andy Battle episode...." Along with a copy of the magazine containing the interview, copies of the interviewer's letters to Adams, and two copies of the manuscript of the interview--one the final copy and the other with some questions and answers not used in the final version.

Danish architect Johannes Prip-Moller first traveled to China in 1921, commissioned to work on projects for missionary societies by the Circle of Architects, a Christian professional society. He later devoted himself to the study of Buddhist monasteries, both the architectural and social structures.
