Original cover art for the 1982 Bantam Books edition of A SEPARATE PEACE, by John Knowles

1982. Oil on canvas, signed "Max Ginsburg" (lower left). 1 vols. 40 x 24 in. Framed. The original cover art for the 1982 Bantam Books edition of A Separate Peace, John Knowels' classic coming-of-age novel set in a fictional New England boarding school during the outbreak of World War II. A Separate Peace was first published to great acclaim in 1959 and has since become a mainstay of high school required reading lists. For generations of readers, Ginsburg's cover is the image most closely associated with the novel - the main character Gene Forrester stands in the foreground while ghostly images of him and his friend Phineas climb a tree, with the Devon campus (based on Exeter) in the background. Ginsburg modelled both boys after a friend of his son, then a boarding school student of the same age as the characters in the novel.

Star Trek Scarce Cast & Crew Photograph with Autographs

1982. Book. Fine. No Binding. Framed Piece. Fine (our Top grade)/Frame Fine (our Top grade). Studio Crew Photo Signed. Signed by Cast. Star Trek black-and-white cast and crew photograph with separate autographs. This photograph of the cast and crew of STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN was given to the film's editor, William P. Dornisch, at the completion of the film along with a card headed, "With thanks" and signed by "Bill Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest," the film's stars. With a signed letter of provenance from Dornisch stating that the photograph was given to him and that the autographs are authentic. The photograph is a bit of an in-joke, with the cast the crew assembled before "Spock's" Star Trek movie prop coffin with William Shatner in uniform in the front row holding a photograph of "Spock" (Nimoy is the only major cast member not present); the photograph is a kind of mock wake for "Spock." The photograph, autographs, and letter of provenance are framed together employing a three-window (opening) linen mat with red fillets, under UV protective glass with a brown hardwood frame with burgundy highlights. The frames measures 17 1/8 x 24 1/2 inches. All items and frame fine (our highest grade)..

[A COLLECTION OF NINE DESIGNER BOOKBINDINGS BY THIS GERMAN BINDER]

N.P.: n.p., 1982. Stock, Wolfgang. A unique collection of nine designer bindings, many of which were part of a 1982 exhibit at the Salzburg Werkstatte f?r Buchkunst. The display of these works was documented in an exhibition catalogue, printed in an edition of 500 numbered and signed copies, a copy of which is also included with the collection. The catalogue has two photographs of the binder, eleven black-and-white and twelve color illustrations of his work. The bindings in the collection demonstrate a wide range of technical prowess and decorative ingenuity. Three of the bindings are traditional contemporary designer bindings composed of full leather with colored leather inlays, which take the form of Miro like abstractions in two examples. Two other bindings demonstrate Stock's ability to create painted leather and parchment bindings. One binding demonstrates his use of contemporary marbled paper and vellum covered boards. Three other bindings demonstrate his ability to provide books with less traditional but more elemental book coverings. One has a simple loose leather covering with a simple gold rule bound by simple leather ties. Another covering loosely gathered in suede is fixed with a tie and a metal dagger. The other, a bit more artistic, is a similar loose vellum covering with ties, but is painted with an original abstract design. Two of the bindings are for blank books. A third covering is a prayer book, in a suitably ecclesiastical-looking binding with flaps and ties. One full leather binding with inlays is a German translation of a work by Walter Crane. The painted leather is the autobiography of Albert Schweitzer. The rest are works having something to do with binding or other aspects of book making. Unlike some art-bindings, Stock's are clearly meant as functional books, with texts intended to be used as texts. The collection of nine bindings together with the exhibition catalogue describing his work gives a remarkable sense of this man's range of binding ability and personal sense of style.

Scene Madri di Bernardo Bertoluuci (First Edition, inscribed by Bertolucci)

Milan, Italy: Ubulibri, 1982. First Edition. First Edition, a trade softcover original. INSCRIBED by Bernardo Bertolucci on the title page: "Pour Pierre Goulliard / [unknown] / Bernardo Bertolucci / 4/11/87."A critical study of the famed Italian director by critic and screenwriter Ungari, through 1981's "Tragedy of a Ridiculous Man" ("La tragedia di un uomo ridicolo"). The two would go on to collaborate on the screenplay for Bertolucci's epic "The Last Emperor." (1987). The highlights of his work include "The Conformist" (1970), "Last Tango in Paris" (1972), and "1900" (1976).From the collection of noted cinephile and collector Pierre Goulliard, who spent decades in the latter half of the twentieth century obtaining inscriptions from the giants of European cinema.Very Good plus. A superb fine clean bright and tight copy with one tiny bump to the top edge. Scarce. Despite critical acclaim, and being runner-up for the 1982 Whitbread Award, the book sold poorly on first publication. It seemed destined to remain in relative obscurity until 2007, when it was adapted for the National Theatre stage, winning 2 Olivier Awards. In March 2009 the show transferred to the West End before opening on Broadway in 2011 and winning five Tony Awards. DreamWorks Studios acquired the film rights in 2009, with the Steven Spielberg directed film released in 2011.
