More Songs About Buildings and Food (Original poster for the 1978 album)

      - Original poster for the seminal second album by Talking Heads. For our money, the very moment at which punk crossed into New Wave, and due to an inspired cover of Al Green's "Take Me to the River," a commercial breakthrough for New York's most accessible and irresistible art rock band. "More Songs About Buildings and Food" slyly addressed the sophomore record syndrome, in which songs not used on a first LP are mixed with hastily written new material. If the band's sound seems more conventional, the reason simply may be that one had encountered the odd song structures, staccato rhythms, strained vocals, and impressionistic lyrics once before. Another was that new co-producer Brian Eno brought a musical unity that tied the album together, especially in terms of the rhythm section, the sequencing, the pacing, and the mixing. Where Talking Heads had largely been about David Byrne's voice and words, Eno moved the emphasis to the bass-and-drums team of Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz; all the songs were danceable, and there were only short breaks between them. Byrne held his own, however, and he continued to explore the eccentric, if not demented persona first heard on "Talking Heads] 77." (William Ruhlmann, Rovi)24 x 36 inches. Rolled, on archival linen. Fine.Pitchfork 100. Rolling Stone 500.

        Follow Me

Leporello-style artist's book, printed recto and verso, from Iannone's exhibition of the same name at Haus am Lützowplatz in Berlin, containing an introductory essay by Karl Ruhrberg, a poem by Ben, quotes and blurbs from Mary Harding, Dr. Wolfgang Becker, Dr. Franz Meyer, Dr. Dieter Koepplin, Konrad Klapheck, Robert Filliou, Daniel Spoerri, and George Brecht, exhibition history, reproductions in black and white and several in colors of Iannone's works, and a 45 rpm vinyl record. Illustrated profusely. 4to. Illus. tie-bound self-wrpps., some minor soiling and rubbing to edges. Berlin (Berliner Kunstlerprogramm/DAAD) 1978. Dorothy Iannone was born in the United States but has spent most of her career working in Berling. She is particularly known for her autobiographical texts, films, and paintings that depict female sexuality, erotic love, and "ecstatic unity". She draws inspiration from Japanese woodcuts, Eastern religious traditions, African tribal statues, and Greek vases. She was frequently censored in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s due to the explicit nature of her work. The 1977 work "Follow Me" consisted of a three-panel black and white display with a video monitor built in, which showed Dorothy's face as she sang a text which was also copied out on the panels, alongside a stylized nude self-portrait.

. Edited by Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond d'Alembert, the Encyclopédie is famous above all for representing the thought of the Enlightenment. The plates were an important part of disseminating the new scientific ideas of the age. Here are the fabulous anatomical drawings, architectural plans, tool illustrations, world maps, animals and plants that summarize knowledge as it was at the time. A philosophical skeleton appears on p. 90 and an almost accurate map of Canada on pp. 3050-3051.
