From an edition of 75 copies signed by the artist, Joseph D'Ambrosio, and the printer, Elmore Mundell, this is one of twenty-five with an extra signed serigraph and deluxe binding.         The Monster in the Turtle's Den

(N.p.: Michael Mar Press, 1977. Small quarto. (16)ff. One of twelve copies, produced by hand by jewelry designer Michael Dorsa and bookbinder Margaret Rhein. With twelve color illustrations. The text and images were both from an original work written and drawn in 1964 by Mike Dorsa and Tom Warner, age nine. In the story, the turtles Betty and Brickred defeat the deadly monster on Turtle Mountain, which is "said to be 6 feet tall and to shoot poisonrings that make you die for 66 years." After tossing the body in the lake, the turtles and their offspring celebrate with a picnic and fireworks. Corrections to the text have been marked in red pen, adding punctuation and fixing spelling. A delightful work that captures the joy in youthful storytelling. This copy is inscribed in pencil to papermaker Douglas Howell: "The inspiration required to get this project together came from my meeting with you, Douglas Howell. Thank you, Michael Dorsa." Howell was instrumental in the revival of hand papermaking. His paper, which came in a wide variety of styles, weights, colors, and materials, were used by artists and printmakers and displayed in galleries throughout the world. Howell also taught workshops in his studio, and many of his students went on to establish papermaking departments in art schools and universities in the United States and Canada. Very fine, in full brown leather with an illustration of the monster blind-tooled to the upper cover.

        GAUDETE

London: Faber and Faber. 1977 - First edition, first printing. Inscribed presentation copy from the author to his close friend, poet and translator János Csokits. Original black cloth with titles in gilt and red to the spine, in dustwrapper. A lovely fine copy, the binding clean and square, the contents without previous owner’s inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the near fine lightly rubbed and nicked original dustwrapper. Not price-clipped (£4.50 to the front flap). Inscribed by the author in black ink on the front free endpaper "For my dear friend Janos / with much love / from Ted / 26th August 1977". An excellent association copy. He is perhaps best known as Ted Hughes's co-translator of another 20th-century Hungarian poet, János Pilinszky. In 1992 Csokits published Pilinszky Nyugaton (Pilinszky in the West), collecting all of Hughes's letters to him. The entire Csokits-Hughes correspondence is now held by Emory University, Atlanta.         Song of Solomon

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1977 First edition. Signed by Morrison on the title page. Personal copy of William Styron, with his embossed ownership stamp to a front flyleaf. Publisher's black cloth, lettered in blind and gilt; in the original yellow pictorial dust jacket designed by R. D. Scudellari, lettered in black and maroon with black wing decorations. Fine book; unclipped dust jacket, with just some light sunning to the spine, else fine. A superb copy. This copy of Song of Solomon comes from the library of author William Styron and bears his embossed ownership stamp on a front flyleaf. Both close friends of fellow author James Baldwin, both Styron and Morrison wrote about African American history, identity and culture during the Jim Crow Era in the American South. Song of Solomon is Morrison's third novel and the first novel by an African-American author to be a Book-of-the-Month Club main selection since Richard Wright's Native Son (1940). Specifically, it creates a "magical world out of four generations of black life in America" through the story of Macon "Milkman Dead, Jr. An extremely powerful novel, Song of Solomon soars, as Reynolds Price lauds in his 1977 New York Times review, "on the wide slow wings of human sympathy, well-informed wit and the rare plain power to speak wisdom to other human beings? Few Americans know, and can say, more than [Morrison] has in this wise and spacious novel.". Signed by Author. 1st Edition.. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Dust Jacket Included.

The Monster in the Turtle's Den

Michael Mar Press, (N.p. 1977 - Small quarto. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Christopher And His Kind (signed by the author)

Eyre Methuen, 1977. 1st edition. Hardcover. Fine in near fine dustjacket, a few small nicks. Signed by the author on the title page. What makes this copy unique is that, in addition to the author's signature, it has been signed on the front pastedown by the actors Alec Guinness and Valerie Hobson and by the poet and novelist, Laurie Lee. They were present at the Foyles Literary Lunch given in 1977 to mark the book's publication, and also included is the Plan for the Top Table at that occasion, which has been signed by Alec Guinness, Laurie Lee, Lady Diana Cooper and Christina Foyle. Other guests included Enid Bagnold, David Profumo (Valerie Hobson's son) and Don Bachardy, the author's partner. The book itself describes Isherwood's experiences of life in Berlin in the 1930s, the decade of his great novels Sally Bowles and Goodbye to Berlin. Splendid associations.

        I Siciliani

Einaudi, 1977. Rilegato tela, sovracoperta (cloth, dust jacket) Testi di Dominique Fernandez e Leonardo Sciascia. Fotografie in bianco e nero di Ferdinando Scianna . 8vo (cm 24x32). pp. XVIII+166. Molto Buono (Very Good). Sovracoperta leggermente sbiadita e screpolata in corrispondenza del dorso (Dj lithgly faded at spine). Prima edizione (First Edition).
