Mogherini, Flavio (director, screenwriter); Pupi Avati, Antonio Avati (screenwriters); Ray Milland, Dalila Di Lazzaro, Michele Placido, Mel Ferrer (starring)
N.p.: N.p., 1976. Original Treatment script for the 1977 Italian giallo film. Director John Huston's copy. Laid in is a typed letter signed, dated January 28, 1977, from noted agent Paul Kohner on Kohner's stationery, encouraging Huston to read the script and consider directing the film: "Dear John, / Please find enclosed copy of the screenplay of PYJAMA GIRL / the Australian project about which we spoke this evening. / Fondly / Paul / P.S. / This is not yet a firm offer, John, but it may well be one by Monday." Huston did not direct the film, instead it became an Italian-Spanish co-production, shot in Australia, and directed by Flavio Mogherini, based on one of Australia's most famous unsolved murders. A little seen but curious entry into the giallo canon, lacking the usual shocking moments of most giallos, the film would not receive a wide release, or any at all in the US, until 2006 DVD by Blue Underground Teal titled wrappers. Title page present, dated September 1976, with credits for screenwriters Pupi Avati, Antonio Avati, and Flavio Mogherini. 133 leaves, with last leaf of text numbered 130. Mechanical duplication. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine bound with silver spring binding. Blue Underground. Howarth, So Deadly, So Perverse II.

Goscinny, Rene and Henri Gruel, Albert Uderzo, Pierre Watrin (directors); Rene Goscinny, Albert Uderzo, Pierre Tchernia (screenwriters); Derry Hall (adaptation); Roger Carel, Jacques Morel, Pierre Tornade, Henri Labussiere (starring)
Paris: Dargaud Films, Circa 1976. Draft script for the 1976 French-British film. Based on the "Asterix" comic book series by writer Goscinny and illustrator Uderzo, a series that began in 1959, serialized in Pilote magazine, and ran until Goscinny's death in 1977, afterwards written by Uderzo until 2009. The series has spawned thirteen films, four of them live-action, games, and a theme park near Paris, as well as selling over 300 million copies of "Asterix" books worldwide. "Twelve Tasks" is the only Asterix film based on an original screenplay rather than material from the comic books, and was later adapted into a comic book and a series of illustrated children's book. Julius Caesar challenges the Gauls to a series of twelve tasks, inspired by the Twelve Labors of Hercules, but different since those are "outdated." Of course, Asterix and Obelix succeed at each humorous, satirical challenge, causing Caesar to retire to a house in the country with Cleopatra, and leaving the heroes in charge of the Roman Empire. Goldenrod titled wrappers. Title page present, undated, with credits for screenwriters Goscinny and Uderzo, and writer Hall. 101 leaves, with last page of text numbered 99. Mechanical duplication. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Very Good plus, perfect bound.

CROWLEY, Aleister.
Thelema Publications, Kings Beach, CA, 1976. Hardcover. Small octavo (6 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches). 60pp. Full red pebbled faux leather with rounded corners. Black title to upper cover and spine. Cream endpapers. Printed on thick white paper stock, fore-edge untrimmed. Edition limited to 100 copies, this copy being No. 60. The limited (deluxe) version of the (1976) Thelema Publications third edition of "The Book of the Law." As with the "standard" issue of the 1976 edition, this is in mostly drawn from the 1942 US edition but with some of the features of the 1938 UK edition, and with a few other alterations. "THE BOOK / OF THE LAW" lettered across the front board and "THE BOOK OF THE LAW" down the spine. The title page is devoid of imprint, and reads simply "THE BOOK OF THE LAW / (technically called / LIBER / AL vel / LEGIS / SUB FIGURA / CCXX / AS DELIVERED BY / XCIII=418 / to / DCLXVI)." The verso of the title page has a short list of previous editions of "The Book of the Law" starting in 1909, the Library of Congress numbers and ISBN, and, at the bottom of the page, " Thelema Publications / P.O. Box 1093 / Kings Beach, California 95719." Somewhat inexplicably a short, five-line catalogue-type description of the book, but with the date March 1973 is printed in the middle of the page. The page adjacent to this carries a new Preface. Curiously this preface is in part constructed from text extrapolated from the two page statement on the O.T.O. that was printed at the rear of the 1942 US edition. For the rest the contents reproduce the Introduction, text of "The Book of the Law" (Li … [Click Below for Full Description]

ROOTS is a saga of dislocation and strength in the face of brutality, reckoning with the complexities of ancestry in the African diaspora caused by the transatlantic slave trade. It begins in 1750 on the coast of The Gambia, West Africa, tracing the lives of multiple generations up to the birth of Haley himself. Michael Eric Dyson explains what ROOTS represented to the descendants of slaves in the United States: "No longer were we genealogical nomads [...] Haley wrote black folk into the book of American heritage and gave us the confidence to believe that we could find our forebears even as he shared his own" ("Haley's Comet"). The 1977 television adaptation was a major cultural event, with an audience of nearly half the American population (NEW YORK TIMES). A triumph of the archives and an American touchtone.

Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, New York, 1976. First edition. Slight tape shadows on the front fly, near fine in fine dustwrapper. The tape shadows are from a laid-in (and formerly attached) printed card "With the compliments of the Author" Inscribed in the card by Arthur C. Clarke to his protégé, one-time secretary, and longtime friend Ian Macauley; "Dear Ian - believe it or not, I started writing this only three years after *Islands in the Sky*! All the best, Arthur." The card exhibits some small corresponding tape stains. Macauley was the dedicatee of Clarke's first published hardcover novel, *Islands in the Sky*, and was an award-winning *New York Times* journalist. He also edited Clarke's book of collected essays, *Greetings, Carbon-Based Bipeds!* (2000). Have, Henrik and Poul Henning Nielsen, Bent Petersen, eds
1976. North: each issue a 4to, bound in french metallic wraps. North-Information: 4to, first two issues each a single, folded sheet. Subsequent issues saddle-stapled. Text in Danish with English translation. A very substantial assortment, the largest we've handled or been able to assemble, of this important Scandinavian periodical of the avant-garde. The aim of the magazine North, and of its accompanying and more ephemeral periodical North-Information, was to document avant-garde activity in Scandinavia, especially ephemeral activities, with bilingual text. All issues are heavily illustrated with extensive photographs. Henrik Have was one of the original editors, though he left early on in order to concentrate on his publishing project Edition After Hand. Essential for any library dealing with the late 20th century avant-garde in Scandinavia. Issue 43 of North-Information consists of a single sheet, folded to enclose an untitled artists' book bt Tom Helling & Lomholt Formular Press documenting the Mr. Klein project, a conceptual project on themes of defenestration. Contributions to the project are solicited by the folder, with a note stating that "The Information-magazine will thus serve as cover the pater publications on the project", a conceptually striking format for a magazine issue. Issues of North are very good to near fine with bumping and some light rubbing to extremities. The issues of North-Information are fine.
