        Walt Disney's Disney Time comic #4 February 19th 1977

: , 1977. : , 1977. The Funny Folk of Disneyland in Helping To Build a HouseOriginal hand-painted artwork for the double center page spread for the Walt Disney's Disney Time comic #4 dated February 19th 1977. Gouache on artist board. Image size: 9 5/8 x 16 3/4 inches. In fine condition. Together with a copy of Walt Disney's Disney Time comic #4. Matted, framed and glazed."Some workmen were building a house in Disneyland this week, and when they went for a bite to eat one lunchtime, our funny friends decided it was time they lent a hand with the work. They were all very willing - but not, alas, very able! As usual, they got up to all sorts of fun and games!Little John thought it would be helpful to fill a wheel-barrow with cement, but Merlin the Magician - as you can see put his foot in it! And speaking of feet, one of Prince John's feet got in the way of a brick dropped by Robin Hood. (H'mm! I wonder if Robin did that on purpose!) Anyway, it made His Highness hopping mad. In fact his foot was so sore that he's been hopping ever since!King Louie of the Apes was up to his usual monkey tricks. "The King of the Swingers", he likes to call himself. Well, he certainly does a lot of swinging, doesn't he?There are seven hidden objects to find this week. They are two hammers, two trowels, two buckets and a spade."

        Eine Stadt: Essen.

Museum Folkwang., Essen. 1977 - Feldmann spent a period of over six weeks in Essen and the surrounding Ruhr district, travelling by car and taking hundreds of black-and-white photographs. As usual Feldmann did not select any spectacular images for the 318 photographs used in the book. Instead, we are presented with blurred photographs, overcast images that reflect the artists reality: nondescript housing blocks, disjointed views of parked cars, empty fields, electricity pylons, randomly angled close-ups, and other general scenes of mundanity. [Ref. Hans Dickel, Kunstlerbucher mit Photographie seit 1960, p. 91; Werner Lippert, Feldmann: Das Museum im Kopf, p. 100.] pp. (172). Offset black-and-white reproductions of 318 photographs.         Dear Wolf and Gundi - Wed 16/2/77

      - Letter with drawing on graph paper. Unique. 1977. 40 x 50 cm. "Dear Wolf and Gundi, thanks very much for the R30 cheque. It came in time. I would very much like to exhibit with you this year - shall we say, more or less the same time as last year? Maybe more graphics this time? One important thing though! Buck Jones told me that you still him for a sculpture. Could you rather pay him first before you pay me the remaining R25. I would be glad - as he has kind to me. Do you still intend coming to use the press? I have started teaching privately from my studio." ( letter continues on the verso but as it is framed one cannot notate it ). This letter includes a drawing which is about a sixth of the page. Jensma returned to Johannesburg in November 1985 never to travel again. He went missing and was last seen in 1993 after he disappeared at the Johannesburg General Hospital. No one knows what happened to him and his family are finally declaring him dead 23 years after his disappearance.

        Hand Colored Flowers

Printed by Mitchell Friedman, assisted by Jeremy Dine, New York 1977 - Etching, soft-ground etching, aquatint, drypoint, engraving, and electric tools on one plumber's copper plate. Printed in black with hand painting in blue, two shades of pink, yellow, violet, and green watercolour after editioning. State i/iii. Edition of 50, No. 48/50, signed and dated in pencil lower right corner. In pristine condition. Image size: 35 5/8 x 23 ½ inches. An early masterpiece by Jim Dine, one of America's greatest artists. Jim Dine is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century. In the late 1950's and early 1960's he gained public attention in New York with his Happenings and mixed media assemblages, but his real acclaim followed through his association with the Pop art movement. An innovative and versatile artist, Dine works in a multitude of mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, and printmaking. As a printmaker, he displays an uncommon love of the art form and a penchant for innovative printmaking techniques. He commonly combines etching, drypoint, mezzotint, lithography and woodcut to create complicated images, which resonate with a sense of drama and hidden meaning. He utilizes a myriad of unconventional hand and machine tools, which he uses on the plate and sometimes directly on the paper. As with this print, Dine often recycles his plates to create new or altered images that often display a ghost image of the first work. Dine's oeuvre focuses on isolated objects, which act as the stand-in of autobiography. Hearts, statues, robes, and flowers become metaphors for Dine's life experiences and his visual quest for the self. This important print is the first of three prints, Hand Colored Flowers (1977), Black and White Flowers (1977), and Red Ochre Flowers (1978), which Dine made from the same plate. In creating this print, Dine used a staggering array of different engraving techniques to create a heavily worked plate. In addition to soft-ground etching, hard-ground etching, aquatint, and drypoint, Dine used a mezzotint rocker as an engraving tool and to raise burr. The plate was cut down for the two later states and a die-grinder was used to change the shape of the vase and the details of the bouquets. According to D'Oench, the dense plate work and heavy inking is typical of the prints editioned with Mitchell and Friedman, Dine's primary American printer between 1975 and 1979. This haunting image is an important early print by Dine and a wonderful expression of his artistic genius. It is rarely seen on the market, making it a true collector's item. D'Oench and Feinberg, Jim Dine Prints 1977-1985 , p. 1-38, 61, no. 1, state i/iii; Carpenter, Jim Dine Prints 1985-2000: A Catalogue Raisonné , no. 31. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

        Walt Disney's Disney Time comic #2 February 5th 1977

: , 1977. The Funny Fold of Disneyland in Playtime Fun Original hand-painted artwork for the double center page spread for the Walt Disney's Disney Time comic #2 February 5th 1977. Gouache on artist board. Image size: 9 5/8 x 16 5/8 inches. In fine condition. Together with a copy of Walt Disney's Disney Time comic #2. Matted, framed and glazed. "If you go to school, I expect you have a playtime every morning and one every afternoon. Well, so do our cheerful chums, the funny folk of Disneyland. At half-past ten every morning (I wonder if that's the same time as your playtime) they stop whatever they are doing and go prancing out to the play park. Some of them play football; some play blind man's buff; some play leapfrog and some practise skipping. Oh, all sorts of different games they play - and some pretty pickles they get into! They are a lively lot of scamps! Take Minnie Mouse, for instance. She usually tries to paint a picture... but you can see below the sort of thing that often happens to it! Then there is Goofy. Whenever there's a skipping rope around, it's almost always sure to end up around him! Still, they all have lots of fun, and that's the main thing about playtimes, isn't it? This week, our artist has drawn a mixture of hidden objects. See if you can find a boot, a ball, a cap, a hammer, a bell, a candle and a mile bottle"

        Hitler Moves East

Mission, KS: Sheed, Andrews & McNeel, 1977. First edition. Very good or better in a very good unclipped dust jacket. Light edgewear, soiling, a closed tear to the upper rear jacket panel at the gutter. Previous owner's name on the title page (an annoyance that becomes less so: read on). Part of a stated limitation of 300 signed and numbered copies; this copy out of series, not numbered, and signed only by Trudeau; however, laid in is a postcard, signed by Leventhal, thanking the recipient for his help in the production of this book, addressed to a printing company that presumably printed and/or prepared the book for printing. Ignored or overlooked or both when first published, 'Hitler Moves East' has come to be seen as an important and influential title and has been republished twice, in 1989 and 2013. This, the original, is an extremely elusive title and this copy is particularly nice.
