Oeuvre originale

        Snow-White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Farrar, Straus and Giroux, New York 1972 - First edition. Quarto, original cloth. Signed by Nancy Ekholm Burkert on the half title page. Fine in a very good dust jacket. Kirkus Reviews called this collaboration between Randall and Nancy Eckholm Burkert "a sort of legend even before its time of publication." Jarrell also wrote The Bat-Poet and The Animal Family, a Newbery Honor Book. Jarrell retained the Grimm (and grim) ending to the tale, as the stepmother is forced to dance to her death. Burkert's illustrations are magical, light-filled creations that more than earn the book its Caldecott Honor Book status. This delightful book's extra-large format showcases the fabulously detailed illustrations, alternating two facing pages of art with two pages of straight text. This is an unforgettable interpretation of a well-loved story. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

        Watership Down.

London: Rex Collings, 1972. First edition of the author's first and most beloved work. Octavo, original brown cloth. Signed by Richard Adams on the title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. A superior example. Although Watership Down was rejected by 13 publishers before Collings accepted it, it has never been out of print, and is Penguin Books' best-selling novel of all time. It won both the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Prize. The title refers to a hill in the north of Hampshire, England, near the area where Adams grew up. The story has its roots in the tales that Richard Adams made up for his young daughters during long car journeys. As he explained in 2007 in an interview with the BBC, he "began telling the story of the rabbits . . . improvised off the top of my head, as we were driving along." He based the struggles of the animals on the struggles he and his friends encountered during the Battle of Oosterbeek in 1944. The daughters insisted he write it down

EDWARD RUSCHA (ED - WERD REW -SHAY) YOUNG ARTIST: A BOOK ACCOMPANYING THE EXHIBITION OF PRINTS, DRAWINGS AND BOOKS OF EDWARD RUSCHA AT THE MINNEAPOLIS INSTITUTE OF ARTS APRIL 18 - MAY 28, 1972

(RUSCHA, EDWARD). Ruscha, Edward and Edward "Gus" Foster. EDWARD RUSCHA (ED - WERD REW -SHAY) YOUNG ARTIST: A BOOK ACCOMPANYING THE EXHIBITION OF PRINTS, DRAWINGS AND BOOKS OF EDWARD RUSCHA AT THE MINNEAPOLIS INSTITUTE OF ARTS APRIL 18 - MAY 28, 1972. Minneapolis, MN: Minneapolis Institute of Arts, 1972. First Edition 1/2000. 12mo. Illustrated Boards. Catalogue Raisonné. Good + (But Incomplete)/No Jacket - As Issued. np (436pp), profusely illustrated in b&w. Designed by Edward Ruscha and Edward Foster. With a biography and exhibition checklist. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Published in conjunction with a 1972 Minneapolis Institute of Arts retrospective of Edward Ruscha's work on paper, this is the charmingly designed exhibition document that the artist classified as an artist's book in his self-compiled 1982 SFMOMA bibliography. Included here is a full catalogue raisonné of Ruscha's graphic art and artist books, a complete listing of the words used by the artist in his work from 1959 through 1972, and an original photo piece from 1971 entitled "Tanks, Banks, Ranks, Thanks". Designed in the format of the wartime-era Big Little Books of Ruscha's youth, the artist's intentional use of cheap, highly-sulfurous newsprint pages bound in thin paper-covered boards has insured that four decades later its condition is almost always compromised. This example shows some usual wear, rubbing, and sunning to its green covers but none of the typical chipping and paper loss to the exterior hinges and spine. Its fragile textblock is tight though browned - another condition flaw associated with this title - with the slightly age-toned business card of Edward Ruscha wittily reading EDWARD RUSCHA / (ED-WERD REW-SHAY) / YOUNG ARTIST" laid in, as issued. Unfortunately, the accompanying card of curator Edward A. (Gus) Foster is lacking. All in all, while incomplete, this is a sound, most presentable copy of this elusive, highly sought-after little gem (entry M25 in Siri Engberg's "Edward Ruscha: Editions 1959-1999") limited to two thousand unnumbered copies. It has been priced accordingly. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.         Zeldzame mensen/Rare people.

('s-Hertogenbosch), The artist, 1972-1973. Collection of 15 gelatine silver prints (vintage) mounted on cardboard, approximately 30 x 39 cms. including margins. Michiels made these photos during his education at 'Koninklijke Academie voor Kunst en Vormgeving' in Den Bosch during a period of about 8 months between September 1972 and May 1973 and i.a. graduated 1973 for his final examination with these series of photos called 'Rare People'. Present are 18 of the 32 photographs used for the first edition of 'Zeldzame mensen/Rare people', published 1974. Each gelatine silver print mounted on cardboard, as issued, and printed on Ilford Photo Paper, of which 12 stamped on verso. One photo shows a crease. Depicting Sjo Pol and Marinus de Bresser living in Best (Noordbrabant, Netherlands). Toon Michiels portrays with gentle understanding their independent character and the timeless atmosphere that surrounds them. The choice of black-and-white is positively justified by the powerful use of light and shade that gives an almost hypnotic focal point to many of the pictures. ¶ In August of 2013 several vintage prints from rare People were added to the collection of Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Few traces of use due to treatment of the photographer. Michiels, Toon.

        Unaccountable Accounting: Games Accountants Play

HARPER & ROW, NY 1972 - inscribed by author" To Dear Emmanuel Saxe with Sincere Affection to the Only Man who could take the chutzpah out of Briloff, Abraham J. Briloff, May 3, 1973, A Day to Remember", one very small tear on back of dustjacket at top. Emanuel Saxe 1902-1987 Emanuel Saxe, a 1923 graduate of the School of Business, with a Diploma in Accounting, returned to his alma mater in 1928 to begin a distinguished career as a scholar, educator and administrator. He became Chairman of the Accountancy Department in 1950 and in 1956 was named Dean of the School of Business--a position which he held for twelve years. His sincere concern for his students and the college led to the School of Business being referred to informally as "Saxe's 23rd Street". During his administration, he was instrumental in bringing the business honor society, Beta Gamma Sigma to Baruch, helping to start the Baruch College Fund, and working toward the accreditation of the school by the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business. In his later years, he was named Martin Wollman Distinguished Professor and City University Distinguished Professor, both in Accountancy. The Baruch College community has a wonderful legacy left by its distinguished alumnus, Emanuel Saxe DATE PUBLISHED: 1972 EDITION: 365 AS NEW Emanuel Saxe.
