Robert Hass
Buffalo, New York: Slow Loris Press, 1971. the yellow publisher's announcement has rust marks of a paper clip on the top left. the Hass broadside has a light trace of one too on top left (you won't even see it unless you look). see all 5 photos. This is really a love letter but also became the first published work of Robert Hass. I wonder if either brought her back. At least the woods and berries will stay around even if words can no longer carry them. Oh, yes, anyway, Robert Hass is a Pulitzer and National Book Award winner and was Poet Laureate of the United States for two terms. This single light brown page, fine press broadside was his first separate publication, 1971. As one New York book dealer has written: "the first publication of this future Poet Laureate and I think the first publication of the press. Rare. I haven't seen another copy in 25 years. One of the great rarities of modern American poetry" (his copy is priced $1,250) I should mention the copy he has for sale has "tape stains on verso" which the copy I am selling does not. My copy is in fine condition with a light trace of a paper clip rust stain at the left top. Included with the broadside is a publisher's announcement from the Slow Loris Press that published the broadside. The announcement (yellow paper) has a visible stain from a paper clip. It refers to Robert as "Bob" and misspells his last name (which someone, not me, hand corrected). An elusive bit of rare poetry. 200 copies were printed and 25 of those were numbered and signed. I am setting my copy at somewhat higher price than the distinguished d … [Click Below for Full Description]

Harrison, Jim
The Sumac Press, [Fremont, MI], 1971. Octavo broadside (23 x 15 cm). Very near fine. First separate edition, the slightly more common state printed in black ink. However, this copy exhibits a feature the bibliographers identify with the red-ink variety: the period is missing at the end of the final line, after "noose." Harrison inscribed some copies of this broadside with an indication that only 33 copies were printed. However, Orr and Torrey cite Dan Gerber -- the printer and Sumac collaborator - - as the authority for likelihood that between 80 and 100 copies were printed. Although some copies were signed by the author and/or printer, many, like the example in hand, were not signed. Still, in any form, one of Harrison's least common publications. ORR & TORREY A.8.a.

Calder Alexander, Prévert Jacques
Paris: 1971. Etat parfait. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

Pete Hamill
G.P. Putnam's Sons, New York, 1971. A major Association copy and a very nice piece of New York history. WONDERFULLY INSCRIBED BY PETE HAMILL TO FRANK SINATRA: "FOR FRANK SINATRA--WITH MUCH THANKS FOR MANY YEARS OF CRAFT AND ART--AND FOR TEACHING A NEW YORK KID HOW TO FEEL--BEST, PETE HAMILL 1/29/72". A very solid copy to boot of the uncommon 1971 1st edition of this first collection of Pete Hamill's first-rate newspaper work to appear in book form. Tight and VG+ (light staining to the fore-edge) in a bright, price-intact, VG dustjacket, with a bit of light creasing and chipping --and several small closed tears-- along the panel edges. Very light wear as well along the jacket's spine ends. Thick octavo, from his earliest years in Brooklyn up thru his battles as one of New York's premiere muckrakers and journalists, Pete Hamill here tells it like it was. Scribner's, New York, 1971. First Edition, First Printing. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good with $4.95 price intact. A small missing chip (1/8" x 1/4") at top of DJ spine. Green boards quarterbound in sky-blue cloth. The spine is stamped in gilt. 184pps. First printing (A - 10.71 C on copyright page). Abrasion to inside rear board suggesting the removal of a paper bookplate or envelope; otherwise, no indication of ex-library. The author's sixth book, immediately following the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning 'The Left Hand of Darkness'. "To dream of a different world can be poetic. To dream a different world into being can be terrifying. Just how terrifying is vividly portrayed in this exciting and moving new novel by Ursula K. Le Guin. George Orr, frightened because he has discovered that he has the power of affective dreaming, consults a psychiatrist, Dr. Haber. Through hypnosis and electronics Haber attempts to dictate the mild-mannered Orr's dreams into creating a world at peace with itself. Orr reluctantly allows him to undertake the project, but as things go wrong he seeks the help of a lawyer, Heather Lelache, for legal redress. What follows is a clash of wills and the desperate effort of a tortured Orr to restrain his new-found destructive capacity. Seldom has a writer so brilliantly set forth the drama of man's ideals at war with his tragic fallibility." A very nice copy of Le Guin's sixth book, which was nominated for both the Hugo and Nebula Awards. Very difficult to find a collectible copy of this title that is not ex-library, let alone s … [Click Below for Full Description]
