Ruscha, Edward
Deventer, The Netherlands: Octopus Foundation within the Framework of Sonsbeek 71, 1971. First Edition. Near Fine. First edition. From an edition of three-thousand copies, of which approximately only 200 are extant, making this one of the most elusive titles in Ruscha's oeuvre. Bound in original wide rectangle white card covers printed in black, measuring approximately 15" x 4, with top-bound pages with lateral gatefolds opening to create pages 30" in length. Text in Dutch and English. Near Fine with title and author name handwritten on spine in ink, light toning, light soiling and light rubbing. Published in conjunction with the Sonsbeek 71 exhibition in The Netherlands, Ruscha took these images only from bridges, presenting them in a panoramic style reminiscent of his Every Building on the Sunset Strip. Although this book was supposed to have an open edition, available via mail-order, sales were slow and the printer removed and disposed of extra copies from its warehouse.

Richard Matheson
New York: The Viking Press, 1971. First Edition/First Printing with no mention of subsequent printings; SIGNED and inscribed by the author on the title page. A fine book in a likewise fine dust jacket. This volume is clean and bright with a tight binding and crisp white pages, housed in a pristine dust jacket which shows only some light age-toning to the back panel and flaps. Not remaindered, not price clipped (6.50 price intact), not ex-lib. This is a classic story by one of the masters of 20th century horror fiction which is very difficult to find in fine condition, particularly signed; a must for the Matheson fan or the horror collector! Fromentin, Manesse
1971. voir descriptif. Peerce, Larry (director); Fred Segal (screenwriter); John Knowles (novel); John Heyl, Parker Stevenson, William Roerick, Peter Brush (starring)
Hollywood: Paramount Pictures, 1971. Script archive built around the Revised First Draft script for the 1972 film. Copy belonging to Burt Bluestein, with his name on the title page in holograph pencil, and annotations throughout in holograph pencil and ink. Bluestein, although not credited at the film's release, was presumably involved with production design, as indicated by the annotations concerning camera angles and props, and his film credits as both assistant director and production manager. The script is accompanied by various interoffice pages, like cast and crew lists, emergency contact lists, shooting schedules, and interoffice memos, including one discussing the film's hiatus and the possibility of Ron Talsky (costume designer) working with Otto Preminger during the hiatus. Between this script and the film's release dates, Talsky did work for Preminger, on his film "Such Good Friends" (1971). Based on Knowles' 1959 best-selling first novel. Two young teens, Finny (Heyl) and Gene (Stevenson) consider the draft if it should happen, and make their way through school during WWII. Shot on location in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Actor Heyl's only film credit. Title page present, dated 1971, noted as FIRST DRAFT (Revised), with credits for novelist Knowles and screenwriter Segal. 163 leaves, with last leaf of text being the tenth page of a shooting schedule. Various printing methods, with a few manuscript and typed pages, and yellow and pink revision pages throughout, dated May 1971 (yellow) and two pages dated Jan 1971 (pink). 1971. Included with the archive are 3 medals [in cases]: a Bronze Star, and 2 Air Force Commendation medals; as well as a plaque, "Order of Valiant Knight of Hardcore", this latter awarded for "examplary [sic] courage leadership and actions from 13 July 1965 through 3 July 1966." After attending the Agricultural, Mechanical and Mormal College in Pine Bluff Arkansas, September 1947 - July 1951, he entered military service with the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lt, during which, over the next 20 years, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, retiring January 1972 as the Commander, 28th Munitions Maintenance Squadran (SAC), Carswell AFB.Like most young men entering the Air Force, Sims evidently had dreams of flying airplanes, but that was not to be as he DNFd pilot training, with his subsequent career path taking him into munitions, evidently with much success, as the Bronze Star attests, as do the results of a unit operational inspection where an eeffectiveness rating of 100% was awarded. "This is most significant since that score has been earned by only three units in Strategic Air Command history."That said, Sims did not give up his dream of being a pilot. included in the archive is his FAA Private Pilot's certificate, earned in 1971. Said certificate provides a personal glipse of the drive & determination exhbited by this individual. Random House Books for Young Readers. Fourth printing of the 1971 first edition. "Lest we forget... the very first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom - Lucifer." - page ix. "The revolutionary force today has two targets, moral as well as material. Its young protagonists are one moment reminiscent of the idealistic early Christians, yet they also urge violence and cry, 'Burn the system down!' They have no illusions about the system, but plenty of illusions about the way to change the world. It is to this point that I have written this book." - page xiii. xxvi, 196 pages. Several pencil markings have been erased, otherwise contents clean, bright and unmarked. Binding tight. Light wear to publisher's black cloth brilliantly lettered in gilt upon backstrip. Light wear to price-clipped dust jacket now preserved in archival-grade Brodart. A sound early copy of this influential work.
