The Exorcist (Original screenplay, west coast)

Warner Brothers, Burbank 1972 - Early version of the final script for the 1973 film, directed by William Friedkin, based on the 1971 novel by William Peter Blatty, written for the screen by Blatty, and starring Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Lee J. Cobb, and Linda Blair. One of the great genre films of the 1970s that accomplished the uncommon feat of being an over-the-top sensation upon its release and gaining subsequent status as a classic, with a strangeness and depth supplied by Burstyn and Sydow that only increases with repeated viewings. Another distinction of "The Exorcist" was that it walked away with 2 Oscars (including Best Screenplay for Blatty), along with 8 nominations (including Best Picture), a feat nearly unheard for a horror film. Yellow titled wrappers with titles in black, stated FINAL, dated April 24, 1972, rubber-stamped copy No. 13, and holograph ink notation reading: "WEST COAST VERSION / SAME AS NEW YORK RE-TYPED VERSION." Distribution page present. Title page present, with a credit for novelist-screenwriter Blatty. 137 leaves, mechanically reproduced, with blue revision pages throughout dated between 6/22/72 and 12/1/72, and some undated with "File Copy Change" noted at the top center. The revisions include a character name memo bound in just after the title page ("Cardinal" to "Bishop"), and a single-leaf Appendix with Merrin's speech to Satan.Pages Near Fine, wrapper Very Good plus with some small closed tears and yapping at the wrapper edges, internally bound with two gold screw brads.         The Halloween Tree

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1972. First Edition, First Printing. Cloth. Near Fine/Near Fine. Joseph Mugnaini. A charming First Edition, First Printing of this clever piece by Ray Bradbury. In Near Fine condition, the book is solid in construction with boards bound in black cloth. The top edge has an attractive red top stain that may be mildly faded, beautifully matching the bright poppy coloring of the end pages. A previous owner's inscription in neat black ink on the front free end paper. Author inscription on half title page in blue ink, "Kevin! Ray Bradbury, Sept 9, 05". Inscription includes an animated drawing by Ray Bradbury, a small preview of the delightful creatures Joseph Mugnaini illustrates throughout this curious tale. Pages throughout the book are crisp and clean with a few corners displaying slight creasing. Dust jacket protected by archival cover. Jacket displays two small chips at the head of the spine and price clipped, otherwise beautiful condition. A tiny light stain on the corner of the front flap. Front and rear flaps appear in lovely condition, with a stylized picture of the author on rear flap capturing the moody feel of the story. A very nice first printing of one of Ray Bradbury's most popular books.

[Photo Albums]: Kenya 1972 and 1973

Kenya. 1972 and 1973. Four oblong quartos. Full red and green leather with gilt lettering on the front boards and each housed in matching green and red cloth clamshell boxes with contrasting green and red leather gilt labels. The albums contain a total of 349 color images measuring between 2.5" x 3" and 6.5" x 4.5". Two of the albums have some wear to their lower spines else fine in very good clamshell case worn at the corners, with some rubbing and tidemark stains along the bottom of two of the albums. Four carefully assembled photo albums documenting two separate safari trips taken in Kenya by Hilary Hook, a retired British officer, who published his adventures serving in India and Africa and as a game hunter in his biography Home From the Hill. The trips, which took place in early 1972 and 1973, are divided into two volumes each with the first pages featuring tipped-in typed sheets listing the dates of the safari, the people involved, and their itinerary. The departure point of both trips was the Masai Mara Game Reserve with the first safari heading to Lake Lagaja in the Serengeti Reserve, then over to Fort Ikoma, and back to Lake Lagaja; the second began along the River Talek before departing for Njoro, then Lake Nakuru, Samburu Game Reserve, Meru Game Reserve, Rojweru River, and finally Lake Rudolf. Both albums are carefully captioned throughout with insights on particular images, animals, environments, and the situations in which the photos were taken. Among the wildlife recorded are zebras, giraffes, lions, white rhinoceros, elephants, ostriches, hippopotamuses, cheetahs, impalas, leopards, gazelles, and monkeys, along with numerous types of birds. Some of the most notable of the images captured are a series of photos showing a gazelle carcass being eaten by vultures then chased away by the arrival of hyenas; a series of lionesses in the tall grass ambushing a family of warthogs with only one young hog escaping; a pregnant cheetah perched in a tree; a lion guarding a zebra carcass; and various shots of herding zebra, gazelles, and ostriches. There are also about two dozen images of the travelers themselves, including Hook, making camp, sharing meals, and traveling; there is also a lone shot of a Masai shepherd with his son.A wonderful collection of African safari images assembled with particular and thoughtful care. .

Archive of photographs featuring Robert Plant and Jimmy Page on stage, circa 1972

N.p., N.p. 1972 - Archive of nine black and white, double weight photographs, circa 1972, of Led Zeppelin members Robert Plant and Jimmy Page on stage, apparently unpublished, by noted photographer Michael Montfort, three with the stamp of German magazine "Stern" on the verso. A single photograph also features a bass-playing John Paul Jones in the background. From the estate of the photographer.Born in Freiburg, Germany, Michael Montfort began his career working as a photojournalist for German magazines such as "Stern," "Quick," and "Bild am Sonntag." In addition to shooting numerous rock and jazz performances, he covered Queen Elizabeth's 1965 visit to Germany, the aftermath of the Six Day War in Israel and Egypt, and the May 1968 protests in Paris. Montfort emigrated to Los Angeles in 1973 and began working as a freelancer. Four years later, on assignment for the German literary magazine "Rogners," Montfort was sent to photograph Charles Bukowski. Aided by the case of wine he smartly brought with him to their first meeting, Montfort connected with the publicity-shy and splenetic poet. Over the next two decades, as both Bukowski's drinking buddy and personal photographer, he shot literary thousands of images of Bukowski and collaborated with him on titles such as "Horsemeat," "Shakespeare Never Did This," and "The Wedding." In addition to Bukowski, Montfort shot notable photographs of luminaries such as William S. Burroughs, Klaus Kinski, Brigitte Bardot, and a Jackson 5 era Michael Jackson. Photographs sized variously 11.75 x 8 inches (30 x 20 cm), 15 x 10 inches (38 x 25.5 cm), and 15.75 x 11.25 inches (40 x 28.5 cm). About Fine. [Attributes: Soft Cover]

Anne Tyler 17-Volume Collection of Signed First Editions, with Correspondence: The Clock Winder; Celestial Navigation; Searching for Caleb; Earthly Possessions; Morgan's Passing; Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant; The Accidental Tourist; Breathing Lessons; Saint Maybe; Your Place is Empty; Tumble Tower; Ladder of Years; A Patchwork Planet; Back When We Were Grownups; The Amateur Marriage; Timothy Tugbottom Says No!; Digging to America

An impressive collection of novels by the Pulitzer Prize winning author, comprising all published works released from 1972 to 2006 (and thus missing her first three, and last four, works), as well as her two juvenile titles. Your Place is Empty is also of particular interest, being an imprint of the William B. Ewert fine press in Concord, New Hampshire. With the exception of Digging to America, they are all signed by Anne Tyler directly on the title pages - no small feat considering that, until recently, the author did not make public appearances or grant interviews. Even sending items to her for the purpose of obtaining signatures was a complicated process, as illustrated in the four postcards and three greeting cards included here, in which Tyler requests they be sent such that she can receive them without leaving her home. The original recipient of these also sent the author a number of gifts, for which she expresses thanks in her correspondence. First editions. Each (except Digging to America) signed without inscription by author on title page. The Clock Winder: board edges a bit faded, two tiny spots on top page ridge. Back When We Were Grownups includes publisher's newsletter (laid in). New York: Alfred A. Knopf / G.P. Putnam's Sons / William B. Ewert / Orchard Books, 1972. First Edition. Near Fine/Near Fine.

The Ballroom of Romance (Signed copy)

London: The Bodley Head, 1972. First edition, first printing hardback in dustwrapper. 20.5 × 13.5cm, 269pp. Signed directly to the title page by William Trevor. This is the Irish author's second collection of short stories. From the dustwrapper, "In the space of twelve stories we meet an apparently random sample of humanity, children and adults, rich and poor, single and married, straight and kinky, good-looking and ugly - in short, a streetful of passing faces. The art of William Trevor lies in revealing, beneath the intriguing variety, their, and our, common predicament: the search for the right balance netween love and illusion, daring and timidity. Tragically, or comically, sometimes both, the actors in most of these stories come either to grief or to terms with the laws of equilibrium. Some dance alone, others change partners, others waltz stiffly on in immutable couples. It depends on the colour of the lighting whether you see it as a ballroom of romance or a third-rate dance-hall." The stories are: 1. Access to the Children; 2. Nice Day at School; 3. The Ballroom of Romance; 4. The Forty-seventh Saturday; 5. A Happy Family; 6. Going Home; 7. An Evening with John Joe Dempsey; 8. The Mark-2 Wife; 9. The Grass Widows; 10. A Choice of Butchers;, 11. Kinkies; 12. O Fat White Woman. Condition: This copy is in very good condition. The dustwrapper is in a protective sleeve and has not been price-clipped (though a biro stroke is through the price). It has some very mild tanning to the extreme top edge but is otherwise in excellent condition. The book is in an equally good state, with clean pages and secure binding though there are a few speckles of foxing and light dusting to the top edge. There is one small scar to the top outer corner of the ffep where a price-sticker has been removed and there is a little ghosting to the cloth of the spine from the dustwrapper. Overall, a super copy. PLEASE SEE THE COX AND BUDGE WEBSITE FOR FURTHER DETAILS AND TO SEE OUR FULL RANGE OF BOOKS. MANY THANKS.. Signed by The Author. First Edition. Hardback. Very Good/Very Good.

        I travestiti

Ottimo (Fine). Prima edizione (First Edition).
