Presage No. XVI Vol. A: Surface Textures and Surface Tensions with Touch Appeal

Liechtenstein: Egaserp ?ablissements, 1969. Liechtenstein: Egaserp Établissements, 1969. Very good in spiral-bound hand-painted Styrofoam and tinfoil boards, with a circular cutout on the front cover. Internal pages show varying signs of wear.. First Edition. Quarto. Installment of volume A, issue number XVI, of Presage Paris Fashion Forecast. A leading quarterly in haute couture from 1961 through 1987, Presage seamlessly combined art, fashion, and design in colorful issues on current trends, providing an alternative to the stark commercial fabric catalogues of the day. Created in Paris and marketed to an American audience, each issue sought to predict the season's styles through a selection of fabric swatches, photo illustrations, patterns, and fashion design sketches for men, women, and children. The staggering subscription fee of $750 abetted the journal's lavish production, which incorporated unusual materials such as foil, lace, styrofoam, and cloth, among other media, into its variously sparse, Pop, and postmodern designs. A noteworthy experiment in graphic design and book arts and important document of the evolution of late twentieth century fashion, the quarterly belongs to several museum and library collections, including the Yale University Library, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Centre Pompidou. This installment features 95 fashion design sketches and prints, and& 83 fabric swatches.

Hitchcock (First Edition, inscribed by Hitchcock)

Paris: Cinema d'Aujourd'hui no. 54 / Editions Seghers, 1969. Paris: Cinema d'Aujourd'hui no. 54 / Editions Seghers, 1969. First Edition. First Edition, a trade softcover original. INSCRIBED in the year of publication by Alfred Hitchcock on the half title page along with his trademark profile caricature: "To Pierre Goulliard / from / Alfred Hitchcock / Sept 1969." & & Although already a commercially successful filmmaker, Hitchcock's critical reputation as one of cinema's most accomplished auteurs wasn't established until the late 1950s by the groundbreaking French theorists writing for "Cahiers du Cinema" and the like. And appropriately, this volume finds French critic and director Simsolo as one of those (along with Chabrol and Rohmer) who were the first to eulogize the master of suspense--at the end of the decade that saw him rise in prominence as a artist, first among the French, then the world.& & From the collection of noted cinephile and collector Pierre Goulliard, who spent decades in the latter half of the twentieth century obtaining inscriptions from the giants of European cinema.& & Very Good in wrappers. Binding reglued, slight lean. Text in French, illustrated with numerous photos throughout. & & Criterion Collection 3, 56, 135, 136, 137, 643.

        Andy Warhol (Stockholm Catalogue)

Stockholm: Moderna Museet, (1969). Stockholm: Moderna Museet, (1969). Fine in distinctive silkscreened flower wrappers.. Second Edition. Quarto. Warhol's famous 'Stockholm Catalogue', published on the occasion of his first European solo show at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, February - March, 1968. The concept for the catalogue was developed by Kasper König, who commissioned Factory stalwart Billy Name, and a teenage Stephen Store, to photograph how Warhol and his coconspirators lived and worked. But it was König's use of the xerox machine to reproduce Warhol's own work that gives this catalogue its signature feel. By some estimates over 200,000 copies were printed in three editions. (Parr / Badger, v2, 144-145; Open Book 238-239).

Photograph of a television screen, split, one side with Nixon on the phone and the other with Armstrong and Aldrin on moon

1969 1969 - THE MOST FAMOUS TELEPHONE CALL IN HISTORY. Gelatin silver print photograph. Approx 7 x 8 1/2 in, black and white. Signed by Nixon, Collins, Aldrin (adding “We came in peace for all mankind Apollo 11”) and Armstrong (“To Claude Harkins with best wishes Neil Armstrong”). Soon after stepping onto the moon, Armstrong and Aldrin spoke with President Nixon by telephone in what Nixon called “the most historic phone call ever made from the White House.” In his diary Nixon wrote, “The President held an interplanetary conversation with Apollo 11 Astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin on the Moon.” The split television screen image was broadcast by the television networks. Nixon’s chief of staff H. R. Haldeman noted that the president was elated by the moon landing, “clapped and shouted ‘Hooray’” when Armstrong stepped on the moon’s surface, and wrote his own remarks for the event. The following day Nixon reinstated his ban on the New York Times, “mainly due to Moon TV editorial which was uncalled for. The editorial berated the president for sharing the stage with the astronauts and wasting their precious time with his direct link conversation” (Haldeman Diaries).

Once In Golconda: A True Story of Wall Street 1920-1938

New York: Harper & Row, 1969.. New York: Harper & Row, 1969. First edition. Octavo, original cloth. Inscribed by John Brooks. Fine in a near fine dust jacket that shows one small closed tear. A very sharp copy, uncommon signed. Once In Golconda is a Wall Street classic that vividly depics the stock market boom of the twenties, the crash of 1929, the Depression, and the coming of the New Deal. "As Mr. Brooks tells this tale of dishonor, desperation, and the fall of the mighty, it takes on overtones of Greek tragedy, a king brought down by pride. Whitney's sordid history has been told before.… But in Mr. Brooks's hands, the drama becomes freshly shocking" (Wall Street Journal).

The producers were so thrilled that they insisted that I get screen credit.'' In a 2009 interview with Graphic NYC, Infantino expanded on this, ''Then there was helping with the Superman movie with Mario Puzo... He sent the script in, and it had someone trying to kill the Pope, and Superman [sleeping with] Lois Lane. I went ‘We can’t put this out.’ I went upstairs and was told to go fix it. I went to California and we fixed it in about a week, coming up with the villains and the story for Superman I and II…We had the villains in there, and each one took over a continent. When it got to the producers, they said ‘We can’t afford this!’ so it came down to a town.'' Infantino died in 2013. -- - Book 2. Fools Die, Uncorrected proof in green wraps.
