Used with wear and tear. Heinemann 1970. Signing events were rare in those days, not like today. These early signed copies were usually to friends and family, before they were even released into book stores. You can tell by the style of signature and handwriting what are early signed copies. Aside from its fine dust jacket, this is an association signed book and Wilbur recalled only that it was for a professional colleague, he couldn't remember. We think it was for Michael Klinger, the producer of the films made from his books at the time. Given he couldn't remember signing Michael's personal script of Goldmine either, we sold it to Wilbur later, its the most likely "Michael from Wilbur's past". Wilbur described his lifestyle to me in those days. He did so much, met so many people, he can't remember anything from those early days. As we get older ourselves, we can fully understand. By the way, the dedication page has been excised as with all Goldmine books. We are selling a special Wilbur collection on behalf of a client. Wilbur will be releasing his memoirs this Spring so now it the time to invest again. From early 2000's until 2011 we were the world's largest dealer of Wilbur's early and signed books. It was our privilege to meet him privately, including at his home, to have him verify signed books and to line-sign books for me only (Niso would not allow the practice for long). He was concerned about the integrity of those dealers selling his signed books and it was a great honor to become friends with him for a time. Him and Niso also bought rarer copies as well as other … [Click Below for Full Description]

Philip K. Dick
1970. Condition: Very Good. AUTHOR : PHILIP K. DICK TITLE : THE PRESERVING MACHINE Publisher : Ace, New York, 1970 This is the first hardcover edition of this collection of stories by Philip K. Dick, which was originally published in the U. S. in 1969 as a paperback original. This copy is from the library of David Hartwell, a friend and editor of the author, and has been SIGNED BY PHILIP K. DICK on the front free endpaper. A note about forged signatures: Although some forgeries are expert and difficult to distinguish from the real thing, most are not. I suggest zooming in on signatures to evaluate the stroke of the pen. If the lines of the lettering look ragged rather than smooth and/or the thickness/darkness of the line varies suddenly rather than not at all or gradually, then be suspicious; these are signs that the person writing was tentative, which is not usually the case when one writes one's own name. Fine unread hardcover book in very good dust jacket. The dust jacket is protected in a Mylar cover. Light pencil notations on the front free endpaper provide provenance information by the professional bookseller from whom I purchased the book, which is why I have left them in place - but they can be easily erased (but I would not do so). If you have any question, please do not hesitate to ask. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

McRaney, Gerald (director); Mart Crowley (playwright)
Los Angeles: Callboard Theatre, 1970. Vintage poster for three performances of the 1969 play held at the Callback Theatre in Los Angeles, circa early 1970s. Directed by and starring Gerald McRaney, who would go on to a long and successful career in film and television as an actor. Mart Crowley's Off-Broadway play, about a group of gay men who gather at an apartment to celebrate a birthday, ran for over 1000 performances at Theatre Four from April 15, 1968 to September 6, 1970. In addition to being a landmark piece of queer theatre, the play also found significant mainstream success, and served as an inspiration and rallying point for many who would participate in the burgeoning gay rights movement. The play's influence and importance are evidenced not only by this early revival, but by the poster itself, whose subtly homoerotic image would have been provocative in that era (and probably quite a bit later as well). William Friedkin would direct a film version in 1970, adapted by Crowley from his play, and Crowley would write a sequel to the play, "The Men from the Boys," in 2002. 25 x 19 inches. Near Fine with a couple of tiny closed tears.

O'Brian, Patrick
London: Collins, 1970-99. Complete set of Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin Novels. Octavo, 20 volumes, original cloth. Each are fine in fine dust jackets. An exceptional set, uncommon in this condition. O'Brian is a first class storyteller. He writes about the sea and ships with a power no other author now commands. To all this he adds a breadth of learning and an imaginative sympathy with his period that never gets in the way of these first two qualities" (Cunningham, 24). "In length the series is unique; in quality-and there is not a weak link in the chain-it cannot but be ranked with the best of 20th-century historical novels" (T.J. Binyon, Independent). Moses, Robert
New York: McGraw-Hill, 1970. First edition of this work by the legendary urban planner. Octavo, original cloth, illustrated. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author, "To Leyland Hayward with high regard Robert Moses." The recipient Leyland Hayward was a theatrical and Hollywood producer, most notably of South Pacific and The Sound of Music. Fine in a very good dust jacket. Robert Moses was a public official who worked mainly in the New York metropolitan area. Known as the "master builder" of mid-20th century New York City, Long Island, Rockland County, and Westchester County, he is sometimes compared to Baron Haussmann of Second Empire Paris, and was one of the most polarizing figures in the history of urban development in the United States. His decisions favoring highways over public transit helped create the modern suburbs of Long Island and influenced a generation of engineers, architects, and urban planners who spread his philosophies across the nation despite his not having been trained in those professions. Moses would call himself a "coordinator" and was referred to in the media as a "master builder".

Boubat, Edouard
NU
1970. Original platinum photograph, 7 /1/16 x 4 5/8 inches on hand-made Whatman paper 10 x 8 inches. SIGNED by the photographer. Fine. "Edouard Boubat was a French Post-War photographer known for his poetic images of nature, animals, and portraits. Instead of espousing a political agenda, his photographs prioritized the vitality of life without being sentimental. "There is something instinctive about the moment you choose to 'take' a photograph,'' Boubat said. "It's not the result of thought or reflection. The strength of the composition is always born of the instant of the decision. It reminds me of archery. There is the tension of the bow and the free flight of the arrow." Born on September 13, 1923 in Paris, France, he was sent to do forced labor in Germany during World War II by the Nazi regime. After the war, he gradually established himself as a photographer in Paris, and by 1951 was exhibiting alongside Brassaï and Robert Doisneau. While working for Realities magazine the artist travelled around the world taking photos of Hindu families in India, tree silhouettes in Africa, and children in Latin America. Boubat died on June 30, 1999 in Paris, France. Today, his works are held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art." Artnet.

De Palma, Brian (director, screenwriter); Louisa Rose (screenwriter); Margot Kidder, Jennifer Salt, William Finley (starring)
New York: Pressman Williams, 1970. Draft script for the 1973 film. Copy belonging to cinematographer Gregory Sandor, with his name in holograph pencil on the verso of the title page, and holograph pencil annotations throughout. Danielle is a beautiful model separated from her conjoined twin, Dominique. When her neighbor, an aspiring journalist, suspects Danielle of a brutal murder, the horror of Danielle's disturbing past begins to surface. Director Brian De Palma based his original story on a Life magazine article about conjoined twins in the Soviet Republic who had been successfully separated, but were experiencing psychological problems as a result of the operation. With its use of visually dense point-of-view and split-screen camera techniques, "Sisters" is one of De Palma's earliest forays into erotic voyeurism as a conduit for psychological horror, paving the way for a string of idiosyncratic, psychosexual projects in the ensuing years, such as "Obsession" (1976), "Dressed to Kill" (1980), "Blow Out" (1981), and "Body Double" (1984), among others. Given its focus on the anxiety of the gaze, "Sisters" can also be read as an homage to Alfred Hitchcock--openly referencing "Rope" (1948), "Rear Window" (1954), and "Psycho" (1960)--and indeed, the film was even scored by Bernard Hermann, a frequent musical collaborator for Hitchcock's films. Set and shot on location in New York. Maroon titled wrappers. Title page present, dated 1970, with credits for screenwriters Brian De Palma and Louisa Rose. 138 leaves, with last page of text numbered 138. Miller, Arthur (playwright); Abby Mann (screenwriter)
N.p. N.p., Circa 1970s. Original typescript screenplay for an unproduced film called "After the Fall," based on Arthur Miller's 1964 play about a Jewish intellectual living in New York. Miller's play opened on Broadway in 1964, at the ANTA Washington Square Theatre, ran for 208 performances, and closed on May 29, 1965. A television movie of the play was released in 1974, but Mann appears to have not been involved in the project. Abby Mann (1927-2008) wrote screenplays for "Judgment at Nuremberg" (1961), earning him an Academy Award, "A Child Is Waiting" (1963), "Ship of Fools" (1965), "The Detective" (1968), "Report to the Commissioner" (1975), and "War and Love (1985). His work also extended into television, for series like "Medical Story" (1975-1976) and "Kojak" (1973-1978), a show he helped create, and several "Kojak" television movies. Black wrappers. Title page present, undated, with credits for playwright Miller and screenwriter Mann. 195 leaves, with last page of text numbered 194. Typescript on white stock.
