Ursula K. Le Guin
Gollancz. fine/ near fine. Ursula K. Le Guin (1968, '71, '73) 'Earthsea' trilogy. UK first editions, first prints with the 'A Wizard of Earthsea' being the uncorrected advance proof copy, published by Gollancz. The set is comprised of: 'A Wizard of Earthsea', UK uncorrected proof copy presented in a custom made slipcase. Near fine condition with the scarce proof dust jacket showing "APPX £1.25" price. the wrapper is moderately faded on the spine. 'The Tombs of Atuan', UK first edition, first print in fine condition with very minor shelf wear and a fine, unfaded (notice the green stripes which are uniformly coloured on the spine and covers), and not price clipped dust jacket. 'The Farthest Shore', UK first edition, first print in fine condition. We have never seen a UK proof copy of 'A Wizard of Earthsea'. Contrary to today's practice when publishers print several hundred and sometimes over a thousand proof copies for distribution to reviewers, uncorrected proof copies prior to 1980s were produced in only a handful of quantities. Here an interesting article about proofs: https://ilab.org/articles/why-collect-proofs A landmark fantasy series which was accoladed multiple times, and which has had an enormous influence on fantasy writing including on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, David Mitchell, Andrzej Sapkowski and the list goes on. First and Fine. [Attributes: First Edition]

Philip K. Dick
1968. Thanks for having a look and I hope you find something you've been looking for. If you think my price is too high, please send me a counteroffer. Always willing to barter a deal we're both happy with. This listing is for a first edition of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K Dick. Published by Doubleday and Company in 1968. First printing stated on copyright page. The genesis of this novel was originally published as the short story The Little Black Box in Worlds of Tomorrow in 1964. Expanded in 1968 into the book that became Dick's most recognizable work in 1982 when the very loosely based film Bladerunner came out. Easily, one of the most difficult modern first editions to obtain in superior condition. Like most 'affordable' copies to come on the market, this is an ex-library copy. I posted a dozen very representative photos of the book and dust jacket. As library copies go, it's one of the least marked up and one of the better preserved raw examples I've ever seen. The photos pretty much tell the story, only two library stamps in the book, one on the front paste down and the other at the bottom of the copyright page. There's a faint numbering stamp consisting of 6 numbers opposite the copyright page on the bottom of the dedication page. Those are the only marking of any kind in the interior of the book. The pages are clean, unmarked, white with no tears, creases or dog-eared pages. Both interior hinges are completely intact. Library card holder removed from front free end paper, no tear through. It's really nice. The covers of the book are clean and sm … [Click Below for Full Description]

MAI 68 MOVEMENT] [RANCILLAC, Bernard, artist
Atelier Populaire?, 1968. First Edition. Mai 68 protest poster attributed to Bernard Rancillac, a "pioneer of French figurative narrative" (tate.org.uk), who would use the same photographic portrait of Daniel Cohn-Bendit in at least three posters during his participation with the Atelier Populaire. Cohn-Bendit was born in France to German Jewish parents who had fled the Nazis in the 1930s. While still in his early teens his family returned to Germany where he gained citizenship upon turning 14, though he would return to Paris for university. While there he became a leading member of the Groupe Anarchiste de Nanterre and the 22 March Movement, though due to his activities he would be expelled from France back to Germany on the charges of being a seditious alien and therefore "indesirable." Though he would be absent for much of the May 68 student protests in Paris, Cohn-Bendit would become one of the faces of the movement, and Rancillac would simultaneously produce a similar poster featuring the same portrait, with the text "Nous Sommes Tous des Juifs et des Allemands" ("We Are All Jewish and German"), while a third poster would feature Cohn-Bendit alongside Che Guevara. See Johan Kugelberg and Philippe Vermès, "Beauty Is In the Street: A Visual Record of the May '68 Paris Uprising" (2011), pp. 91, 148, and 260. Original poster (55x43cm.) printed offset in black and red on white stock; previous folds, some spotting, else a Very Good, mostly fresh copy. This is one of at least two states (no priority), the other printed entirely in purple. [Attributes: First Edition]

Terence; Durer, Albrecht (Illustrations)
Kentfield, California: The Allen Press, 1968. Durer, Albrecht. Limited Edition. One of 140 copies, folio size, [34] leaves unnumbered, with original prospectus folded in original hand-addresed mailing envelope. The thirty-second limited edition from The Allen Press, and the first printed on their 1846 Columbian handpress. Terence (circa 195 - 159 B.C.) was and has remained a popular playwright, "The Brothers" considered to be one of his greatest plays, being "not only a delightful and clever comedy, but also a fine study of human nature. Proof of the timelessness of Terence's genius lies in the fact that over 400 manuscripts of his plays survive today, and many of his plots have been purloined by successive generations of playwrights." This is the first edition of "The Brothers" illustrated by Durer. "Although there were about forty Terence editions previous to 1500, humanist scholars strongly objected to illustrations for the classics. So it was not until 1493 that the first was issued: 150 woodcuts in the edition printed by Johann Treschel at Lyon, France. It is one of the most beautiful illustrated books of the fifteenth-century; but its editor, Johann Badius, tried to soften the innovation by declaring that the pictures were added to assist the illiterate." The coincidence which made the present edition possible, is that "Johann Amerbach of Basel, unaware that the Treschel edition was underway, began a similar edition by commissioning the young genius Albrecht Durer, at age 20, to design 150 illustrative woodcuts, one for every scene of the drama. However, when the draw … [Click Below for Full Description]

The Prime Minister Harold Wilson's 1968 manuscript 'Phone Book, bound in bespoke crushed olive morocco presentation binding over thick card covers from 'Dowsett Associated Companies' with 'Harold Wilson' in gilt to upper cover, all edges gilt, silk bookmark. Tabbed alphabetical entries. This is very much a book of Labour political contacts, dating from Wilson's years as Prime Minister. The entries, about fifty of them, are written in Wilson's own hand although the book does not have the feel of being heavily used. As a serving Prime Minister Wilson wouldn't have expected to dial numbers himself - this book may have been used privately by the Prime Minister, always fearful about bugging and surveillance, so that he could avoid civil - or secret - service monitoring of his calls. As an example there are five names under 'C which include: 'CASTLE, Barbara 359.2012. Turville heath 464' and 'CALLAGHAN, Jim, 735.9959. Ringwes 572'. All the major figures from the Labour movement are here, including Tony Benn, Lord Goodman, Denis Healey, Joe Haines, Roy Jenkins, Peter Shore, The New Statesman and The Sunday Times. The postcard comes from the private collection of Harold and Mary Wilson which was recently dispersed at auction following the death of Mary Wilson aged 102 in 2016. This postcard was kept safe in the couple's London flat.' Please contact Christian White at Modernfirsteditions if you would like more information. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Le Guin, Ursula K.; Robbins, Ruth (Illustrations); Garraty, Gail (Illustrations); Chodos-Irvine, Margaret (Illustrations)
Berkeley: Parnassus Press, c. 1968. Robbins, Ruth; Garraty, Gail; Chodos-Irvine, Margaret. All volumes octavo size, see below for pagination, three of the six volumes signed by Ursula K. Le Guin. Ursula K. Le Guin (1929-2018) was an American fantasy and science fiction author of enormous magnitude and influence; a prolific writer, she examined issues such as gender and sexuality, politics, religion, and environmentalism through the lens of far-off worlds and imaginary characters and settings. Her works have garnered the Hugo Award (multiple times), the Nebula Award, the Newbery Honor, and the World Fantasy Award, among others, and influenced other excellent writers of science fiction, fantasy, and similar genres, such as Salman Rushdie and Neil Gaiman. This collection of books comprises the Earthsea series, a seminal work of fantasy set in the fictional world of Earthsea, made up of many small islands surrounded by a vast ocean, where magic and wizardry are practised and have dire consequences. Considered to be "high fantasy", this series led to a more serious approach to fantasy by readers and writers alike, as Le Guin expertly weaves concepts of yin and yang and the search for identity into scenes of magic, dragons, and adventure. "Throughout all this work, an underlying pattern can be traced: the quest for one's opposite, with whom one must join together to become whole" (Clute & Grant, p. 572). All volumes are first editions, except for "A Wizard of Earthsea", which is an early reprint. Three volumes are signed by Ursula Le Guin: "A Wizard of Earthsea", "The Farthest Sh … [Click Below for Full Description]

Title: Star Trek Episode: "The Savage Curtain" Script Dated: December 1968 Written by: Gene Roddenberry & Arthur Heinemann Description: This is an Original TV Script used during the making of the 1966-1969 TV Series titled, "Star Trek". It is from the Episode titled, "The Savage Curtain" which is Season 3, Episode 22. This is the Revised Final Draft dated December 1968. It is the complete script and it has all clean white pages throughout inside. It is 65 pages long and has the original red production cover. However, the revision pages inside are all on white paper and not blue or pink. The script is definitely from the 1960's I can tell just from the aging of it. I have some Outer Limits scripts for example to compare the type of paper and ink and they are very similar. The pages inside are very clean with no copy marks or ghost hole marks. I believe this was used by the production company but maybe it is an office copy or file copy and that would maybe explain why the revision pages are on white paper. The entire script is bent and curved from being in storage. It also has some brown stain marks around the outer edges. Please view the pictures above carefully. The script is in good condition. It shows the appropriate signs of aging for being used during the 1960's. Episode Information: The Enterprise's sensor readings indicate a planet unsuitable for any carbon-based life at the level of a developed civilization. Suddenly they get an apparition in space from someone who looks like and claims to be Abraham Lincoln. He insists on them checking him out and coming over to a s … [Click Below for Full Description]
