Deitch, Gene, with design by Vratislav Hlavaty.
By the author (1968), no place. Unpaged; (98) pp.; 5' x 8 1/2"; plain red cloth over boards; tan endpapers; hand-drawn and colored drawings on each page (you can feel the ink on the paper's surface). Designed in the form of a flip book, which format Deitch had used in 1967 with "Nudnik, the cut finger fumble", published by Cinémathèque Canadienne occasion of the World Retrospective of Animation Cinema as part of Expo 67. This work appears to have never been published in book form, but was produced as a film. The book appears to be unique, bound as a 'pitch bible' for The Giants. There are several pastedown replacements/edits on pages form textual parts, to half, to whole page. It appears that some leaves, are actually two pages stuck together, as another way of removing or editing parts, or reusing the back side of a page to redraw a part. One of these was just separated enough to be able to see partial drawings 'inside' so to speak. Eugene Merril Deitch (born August 8, 1924)[1] is an American illustrator, animator and film director. Based in Prague since 1959, Deitch is known for creating animated cartoons such as Munro, Tom Terrific, and Nudnik, as well as his work on the Popeye and Tom and Jerry series. The background leading up to the creation of The Giants as a film, as well as its sensational reception and subsequent banishment, is a fascinating and complex drama. The inspiration for the story, according to Deitch, was the Israeli - Palestinain conflict: "But first, back to the dilemma of the offer by the Czechs to back an original film by me. It is also in this catalogue that the seminal photographs of the Factory, by Stephen Shore and Billy Name, appear for the first time, along with at least one of his most famous quotations (perhaps THE most famous and most frequently quoted): "In the future everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes".The exhibition in Stockholm was Warhol's first international retrospective exhibition and as such one of his most important ever."This book was published on the occasion of the Andy Warhol exhibition at Moderna Museet in Stockholm February-March 1868. Editing: Andy Warhol, Kasper König, Pontus Huntén, Olle Granath. Typograhy and production: John Melin, Gösta Svensson, Stig Arbman AB, Malmö. [Guthrie, Arlo (sourcework)]: Penn Arthur [director and screenwriter], and Venable Herndon [screenwriter]
New York: Florin Corporation, 1968. [1],114 leaves (modified by lettered and revised inserts). Quarto. Mimeographed typescript, printed on rectos only of plain, blue, yellow, and salmon colored stocks. Bolt bound in mimeographed stiff wrappers. Wrapper somewhat creased, edgeworn and smudged, annotations throughout in pencil and ink, some occasional minor stains and frays, but a very good and important copy utilized in the production (see below). Denoted a "shooting script," but incorporating revisions spanning two months on colored and dated revises and inserts. This significantly used copy bears the ownership signature(s) and occasionally heavy annotations, music cues and highlighting of Fred Hellerman, music director for the production. Hellerman (1927 - 2016) was, with Pete Seeger, Lee Hays, and Ronnie Gilbert, an original member of the seminal American folk group, the Weavers. He produced the 1967 album by Arlo Guthrie that served as the sourcework for this film, ALICE'S RESTAURANT. Arthur Penn also directed the film and received an Oscar nomination for Best Director. The cast included Guthrie and Patricia Quinn in the lead, with Pete Seeger, Lee Hays, Emmet Walsh, and many others filling in a large and colorful cast. Penn and Herndon's script was nominated for a WGA Award.

Ursula K. Le Guin
Gollancz. fine/ near fine. Ursula K. Le Guin (1968, '71, '73) 'Earthsea' trilogy. UK first editions, first prints with the 'A Wizard of Earthsea' being the uncorrected advance proof copy, published by Gollancz. The set is comprised of: 'A Wizard of Earthsea', UK uncorrected proof copy presented in a custom made slipcase. Near fine condition with the scarce proof dust jacket showing "APPX £1.25" price. the wrapper is moderately faded on the spine. 'The Tombs of Atuan', UK first edition, first print in fine condition with very minor shelf wear and a fine, unfaded (notice the green stripes which are uniformly coloured on the spine and covers), and not price clipped dust jacket. 'The Farthest Shore', UK first edition, first print in fine condition. We have never seen a UK proof copy of 'A Wizard of Earthsea'. Contrary to today's practice when publishers print several hundred and sometimes over a thousand proof copies for distribution to reviewers, uncorrected proof copies prior to 1980s were produced in only a handful of quantities. Here an interesting article about proofs: https://ilab.org/articles/why-collect-proofs A landmark fantasy series which was accoladed multiple times, and which has had an enormous influence on fantasy writing including on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, David Mitchell, Andrzej Sapkowski and the list goes on. First and Fine. [Attributes: First Edition]

Avtograf Genrikh [pseudonym of Khudiakov, Genrikh Fedorovich] and George Reavey
[New York]: George Reavey (The Letter Edged in Black Press, Inc.), 1968. Oblong octavo (14 × 20 cm). Original pictorial wrappers; [48] pp. Signed and inscribed to title: "Dorogoi Nine s bezotvetnost'iu v liubvi (samoi druzheskoi!), noiabr' 10, 1984, NYC (To Dear Nina, with unrequitedness in love (the most platonic kind!), November 10, 1984, NYC). Light soil to wrappers, else very good or better. Signed and inscribed facsimile edition of a unique samizdat album of visual poetry created by Genrikh Khudiakov (pen name Avtograf), an artist, poet, translator and member of the unofficial poetry scene first in Leningrad and later in Moscow in the 1960s and 1970s. Khudiakov (1930-2019) graduated from Leningrad State University with a degree in Slavic philology, specializing in Czech, and worked as a Czech translator in Moscow in one of the so-called "mailboxes," a classified institution known to the public only by the number of its mailbox. Khudiakov did not own a typewriter and seems to have typed some of his poetic experiments on one of the typewriters at work, presenting them in the apartment and studio gatherings of underground Moscow artists. Remembering those gatherings, Eduard Limonov writes: "I saw Genrikh Khudriakov for the first time in 1968. He read and 'showed' his poems in the apartment of one of the Moscow poets. There were about 20 people assembled. Ropes were strung from wall to wall of the room and Khudriakov's famous 'Katsaveiki' hung from them - sheets of paper about 30 x 40 cm, with a handful of words arranged in a special way graphically, making up visua … [Click Below for Full Description]

Ropes were strung from wall to wall of the room and Khudriakov's famous 'Katsaveiki' hung from them - sheets of paper about 30 x 40 cm, with a handful of words arranged in a special way graphically, making up visual poet … [Click Below for Full Description]

Wurlitzer, Rudy
N.p.: N.p., 1968. Archive of manuscript material for Rudolph Wurlitzer's 1968 debut novel "Nog," including a complete first draft of the novel, showing significant differences from the published version and with an unpublished final chapter, and over 300 loose manuscript pages, both with extensive holograph annotations throughout. As complete and detailed an archive regarding a writer's creative process as we can imagine. From the collection of Rudolph Wurlitzer, with provenance.A landmark of postmodern American fiction and a bona fide cult classic, whose plot is best summed up by the rear panel copy of Two Dollar Radio's 2009 reprint edition as "the tale of a man adrift through the American West, armed with nothing more than his own three pencil-thin memories and an octopus in a bathysphere." On publication, "Nog" drew favorable comparisons to the work of Thomas Pynchon and Samuel Beckett, with Pynchon himself stating it was "more than a beautiful and heavy trip, it's also very important in an evolutionary way, showing us the direction we could be moving in," and Jack Newfield stating in his revew for the "Village Voice" that the novel's impact on literature is "what Dylan is to lyrics." After reading the novel, director Monte Hellman would tap Wurlitzer to write the screenplay for "Two-Lane Blacktop," leading to a second career which saw him pen scripts for Sam Peckinpah, Alex Cox, Robert Frank, and Bernardo Bertolucci.Included in the archive is a first draft of the novel with significant differences in both text and structure from the published version, and extensive rev … [Click Below for Full Description]

Neruda, Pablo; Translated by Robert Bly and James Wright
London: Rapp & Whiting, 1968. First edition of Neruda's classic work. Octavo, original cloth. Boldly signed by Pablo Neruda on the half-title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Lawrence Edwards. Translated by Robert Bly and James Wright. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. Neruda's second published work, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair initially appeared in Santiago in 1924; Neruda was 19 years old. The work gained a controversial reputation for its arresting eroticism, especially considering its author's very young age. The work remains the best selling poetry book in the Spanish language ever published. "Pablo Neruda is the greatest poet of the twentieth century-in any language" (Gabriel Garcia Marquez).
