Dick, Philip K
Garden City, New York: Doubleday and Company, 1968. First edition. Fine in near-fine jacket.. Original full grey cloth, gilt-lettered spine. In original unclipped ($3.95) grey pictorial dust jacket designed by Harry Sehring. [6], 210 pages. Single spot to fore-edge. Only very light edgewear to dust jacket. First printing of the science fiction classic, in which an android bounty hunter navigates a bleak future society. ANDROIDS features significantly more story lines - and more humor - than BLADERUNNER, offering a deeper dive into the dystopian future Earth that has become an awfully cool planet of trash and decay. It is a compelling mixture of backward nods to noir and hints of cyperpunk still to come, wrapped neatly within science fiction-inflected existentialism. One of the main themes of the book, the "wavering boundary between the natural and the artificial" (Pringle), feels as relevant as ever. In this first edition, the year is 1992; later editions changed the year to 2021. A fantastic copy, scarce in this condition.

Lyon, Danny
New York: The Macmillan Company, 1968. First edition. Very good or better overall.. First printing of Lyon's influential work, with an original vintage print of his photograph "Route 12, Wisconsin," the book's iconic cover image. Lyon's photo book documenting the Chicago Outlaws motorcycle club delivers some of the most iconic images associated with biker culture, including the indelible cover image additionally represented here by an original vintage print from the collection of Steve Dalber, Lyon's roommate at the University of Chicago. In contrast to many photographers he is often associated with, Lyon embedded himself within the communities he photographed, giving the viewer an inside look at the subject. As with Lyon's other publications, text is an integral part of THE BIKERIDERS; stories from the photographer as well as the voices of a number of bikeriders situate the photographs within the context of the biker subculture and the culture at large.

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (MGM, 1968). Vintage Original Theatrical Release Folded One Sheet Poster (27" x 41"). Style B, Artwork by Robert McCall. An unrestored poster in its original folded state - how they were sent to movie theaters back in the day. This poster is an original 1968 style B one-sheet from this classic movie, from the "70MM VERSION" release as indicated by the ink stamp to the verso. VERY GOOD Condition: each corner has a small circular linen reinforcement label adhered to the backside which surrounds a pinhole or two, a few margin pinholes, a two prong staple hole in the blue text at the top of the poster, slight edge and fold wear/soft creasing, a touch of toning to the blank backside, overall solid, clean, clear and the color remains glossy and bright. Please note: There is NO toning or discoloration to the face of this poster - there is a shadow in my photos from the overhead lights. The original poster from one of the most revered films of the 20th century. This poster will be shipped folded.

Clarke, Arthur C.
(New York): New American Library, 1968. First edition. About fine in near fine jacket.. First printing of the book written to accompany the landmark film, whose screenplay Clarke wrote simultaneously with Kubrick. Determined to create a film about "Man's relationship to the universe, " Kubrik reached out to Arthur C. Clarke for help. Together they expanded Clarke's short story "The Sentinel" into 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. Clarke's trademark ability to capture a profound sense of mystery and wonder about space combined with Kubrik's obsession over aesthetic perfection and mastery of tension to create one of the great films of the 20th century. They began the novel version of the story first in order to "let our imaginations soar freely" (Clarke), but in the end finished the book alongside the screenplay. The novel is remarkable for (slightly) demystifying the ambiguous ending of the film, which has left generations of viewers in confusion. Clarke goes into more explicit detail about the fate of astronaut David Bowman, while still characteristically ending the book in a meditative tone.

Ursula K. Le Guin
Parnassus Press, 1968. Condition: Like New. Superb first edition/second state copy, one of the best I've seen. A Wizard of Earthsea (the first volume of the Earthsea series followed by The Tombs of Atuan and The Farthest Shore) by Ursula K. Le Guin First Edition - First Printing - Second State Parnassus Press 1968 Illustrated by Ruth Robbins. Blue-green boards with embossed title on the front. "11 up" shown on upper corner dust jacket flap probably indicating the minimum age of potential readers, 205 pages on better quality paper. NOTE: Does NOT have vertical smudge on the title page and lacks "Library Edition $3.95" on the dust jacket which would be present if this was a first state copy. (A first state copy in this condition would be priced at $2500+.) Condition: Just about Fine in Fine Dust Jacket. One of the best copies of this book I've seen. NO major shortcomings save inevitable aging. Corners are straight, boards clean, pages clean, a little bit of shelf-wear to the bottom spine, and just a tiny hint of pin-pricks to the bottom of the lower corners, almost imperceptible. The dust jacket is near perfect, NO tears, NO chips, and NO clipping (common with the third state). The front and back are very bright and clean, only some toning to the spine of the dust jacket, common with this edition. A very clean and presentable copy. NOTE: This book is NOT an x-lib copy. (To offer some perspective, I saw a first state copy at a book fair, not as nice as this copy with an asking price of near $3000.) Used with wear and tear. Heinemann 1968. Signing events were rare in those days, not like today. These early signed copies were usually to friends and family, before they were even released into book stores. You can tell by the style of signature and handwriting what are early signed copies. This was however a much later signed book and unique for being line-signed Aside from its fine dust jacket which is the finest we've ever seen on this title, that it is signed with a line for the book makes it unique. We had only two of these signed like this. I borrowed line-signing from other authors events as a means to add more writing, ensuring it wasn't a forgery signature. Sadly forgers will arise whenever money can be made from a famous person's signature. It very much personalizes the book without making unique to one person only. I discussed with Wilbur choices of lines and he personally selected this one. I preferred another, but again he wouldn't tell me why this one is special to the book? Wilbur could be cryptic at times and held his cards to his chest. I think his selections of the line options I offered were very private choices, where the book had some special meaning and he liked or disliked the lines for purely personal reasons. I can;t help but feel this one had something to do with a women. However, Niso objected to line-signing and wouldn't allow him to sign anymore after my selections. These were a personal favor to me. I'm not aware he's ever done this for any other fan since making these line-signed books one of a kind. We are selling a special Wilbur collection … [Click Below for Full Description]

Dietikon, Stocker, 1968. 350 Seiten. [Click Below for Full Description]

Ursula K. Le Guin
Gollancz. fine/ near fine. Ursula K. Le Guin (1968, '71, '73) 'Earthsea' trilogy. UK first editions, first prints with the 'A Wizard of Earthsea' being the uncorrected advance proof copy, published by Gollancz. The set is comprised of: 'A Wizard of Earthsea', UK uncorrected proof copy presented in a custom made slipcase. Near fine condition with the scarce proof dust jacket showing "APPX £1.25" price. the wrapper is moderately faded on the spine. 'The Tombs of Atuan', UK first edition, first print in fine condition with very minor shelf wear and a fine, unfaded (notice the green stripes which are uniformly coloured on the spine and covers), and not price clipped dust jacket. 'The Farthest Shore', UK first edition, first print in fine condition. We have never seen a UK proof copy of 'A Wizard of Earthsea'. Contrary to today's practice when publishers print several hundred and sometimes over a thousand proof copies for distribution to reviewers, uncorrected proof copies prior to 1980s were produced in only a handful of quantities. Here an interesting article about proofs: https://ilab.org/articles/why-collect-proofs A landmark fantasy series which was accoladed multiple times, and which has had an enormous influence on fantasy writing including on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, David Mitchell, Andrzej Sapkowski and the list goes on. First and Fine. [Attributes: First Edition]

EXLEY, Frederick
Harper and Row, New York, 1968. Advance Reading Copy. Printed red wrappers. About fine. Inscribed by Exley: "For Burt Britton with all deep affection 11/19/74 Exley, and thank you." Exley's well-received first book, a "fictional memoir" (which seems more memoir than fiction). An exploration of the life of a fan of the New York Giants football team, told between drinking bouts and episodes of madness. A title which in recent years has been steadily gaining recognition as a masterpiece. Famously troubled, Exley wasn't a prolific signer and this is the only signed copy of the Advance Reading Copy that we've seen. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Soft Cover]

Jack Donohue, George Marshall, Jack Baker (directors); Lucille Ball, Gale Gordon, Lucie Arnaz, Desi Arnaz Jr. (starring)
Los Angeles: Columbia Broadcasting System [CBS], 1968. Original scenario artwork for the 1968 comedy television show. Set design sketch for the living room of Lucy's apartment, including the oft-pictured brick fireplace, and Lucy herself coming down the stairs. The third of Lucille Ball's television comedy sitcoms, following her famed "I Love Lucy" (1951-1957) and "The Lucy Show" (1962-1968). While "The Lucy Show" was very popular Ball chose to end it, and created "Here's Lucy" as a way for her children to act alongside her. In this third sitcom she played a widow with two teenagers, working at an employment agency, and the show touched upon current events such as civil rights, rock music, and the sexual revolution. Also uncommon for the time the show was filmed in front of a live audience, as Ball believed she performed better in their presence. "Here's Lucy" ran for six seasons. Artwork 28 x 11.5 inches, mounted on a 34 x 18.5 inches illustration board. Pen and white gouache on vellum. Very Good, with a light even toning, with bumps and edgewear to the illustration board.

Hill, George Roy (director); William Goldman (screenwriter); Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Katharine Ross (starring)
Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox, 1968. Final script for the 1969 film. A landmark of New Hollywood cinema, and arguably the high spot (as well as the beginning) of an incredible streak of inventive cinematic achievements directed by George Roy Hill in the 1960s and 1970s that included "Slaughterhouse-Five" (1972), "The Sting" (1973), and "Slap Shot" (1977). Loosely based on fact, Butch Cassidy (Newman) and his partner, the Sundance Kid (Redford), are on the run from a US posse after a string of train robberies. They flee to Bolivia in search of a a better way to be thieves, but ultimately meet their doom. Blue titled wrappers, noted as FINAL on the front wrapper, dated July 15, 1968. Title page present, dated July 15, 1968, noted as FINAL, with a credit for screenwriter Goldman. 185 leaves, with last page of text numbered 186. Seymour Lawrence/Delacorte, New York, 1968. First edition, first printing ("First Delacorte printing"). A light scratch through the author's name and a small closed tear to the rear of the dust-wrapper; else fine (unusually bright). Vonnegut's off-kilter Orwellian surrealism is in full late-60's flower (printed in August of 1968) in his second collection of short works. RUSCHA, Edward)
1968. Black & white illus. of Ruscha's first eight books. Large poster intentionally separated horizontally in two and attached & folded to form 10 pp. (200 x 108 mm. fully folded). Hollywood, California: Heavy Industry Publications: [ca. 1968]. First state of this extremely rare trade catalogue advertising Ruscha's first eight artists' books. This is one of the earliest and ephemeral publications promoting these fabled books. They are presented in typical Ruscha fashion: slightly askew and matter-of-factly. We date this to 1968 or thereabouts based on the final item listed for sale, Nine Swimming Pools (retailed at $3.50, 1968). The second edition of the artist's first book, Twentysix Gasoline Stations ($4.00, 1962) remains at a relatively low price, while a signed and "rare" first edition of Various Small Fires (1964) is offered at $25.00. "Prices can change without notice" is printed on the final page. We are aware of copies of the present trade catalogue being re-purposed in the early 70s, with some of the prices sharply increased in Magic marker, and the titles and prices of Ruscha's next five books stamped or written in on the final page. In her insightful article on the presence of artists' books at documenta, Anna Sigrídur Arnar uses a picture showing this later, marked-up poster displayed at the Idee section held on the second floor of the Fridericianum Museum during documenta 5 (1972). In fine condition; a compelling document relating to the marketing of artists' books in the 60s and 70s, and the ardent collecting of Ruscha's books.
