The out of series copies were given to personal friends of the publisher. A beautifully produced little volume of Welty's splendid essay on her youthful obsession with reading -- the "sweet devouring" of the title. One of the truly scarce Welty titles, and probably her most sought after limited edition. A wonderful little book. .

Spine a little faded, a couple of minor stains to margins; an excellent copy in the nicked jacket with toned spine. First edition in book form, first printing of the three act play which premiered on Broadway at the Plymouth Theatre on February 14, 1968. Presentation copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper to film director Tony Harvey ("To Tony - I hope you do it. Neil."), indicating a desire at the time for Harvey to direct the film adaptation of the play. The film version, released in 1971, was in fact directed by Arthur Hiller, and Neil Simon expressed unhappiness with the result.
