Liber Amoris or The New Pygmalion.

London: George Routledge & Son, Ltd.,. Small octavo. Original green cloth titles gilt to spine. Spine rolled, ends and corners rubbed, very good condition. E. M. Forster's copy, inscribed to him on the front free endpaper "Morgan Forster, from Christopher Morris, May 1962 with affection and esteem", with the "This book belongs to E. M. Forster". Morris was a History fellow at King's College, Cambridge, from 1930-93. He and his wife Helen, likewise a Cambridge don, but teaching English literature, frequently hosted Forster on his return visits to his alma mater. The Liber Amoris was described by Thomas de Quincey as Hazlitt's "explosion of frenzy... to empty his overburdened spirit" after an ill fated infatuation with his landlord's daughter. The tragic tale of frustrated love would no doubt have appealed to Forster's sensibility. This New Universal Library edition is a verbatim reprint of the 1823 first edition.

The Lord of the Rings, 1962 Allen & Unwin UK 1st Editions in Publishers Slipcase

London: Allen & Unwin, 1962. First Edition. Original Cloth. Near Fine/Near Fine. J.R.R. Tolkien. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. Comprised of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Published by George Allen & Unwin, 1962 1st Editions, 12th imp/9th imp/9th imp. An exceptionally nice set of first editions of this classic of fantasy literature. The set is housed in the original publishers slipcase, showing some wear and rubbing to the edges, with a little soiling to the label and the exterior of the box.. The set is in Near Fine condition, with a small amount of tape ghosts present to front and rear endpaper of each volume. The original owner used the old style of dustjacket protectors, that left some ghosts and tape residue to the dustjackets, but has preserved them remarkably well. No other writing or marks in the books. There is no foxing or offsetting in any of the books or to the endpapers as is common. The exterior cloth is clean and shows a couple of damp stains, but very light. The boards show nice bright red with the gilt untarnished and bright. The books are clean and tight, and the maps are attached in each volume, and show no extra folds and a couple of minor tears to the mounting area. The dustjackets are complete and the correct impression for the books. The dj's are in Near Fine condition with only minor rubbing and edgewear to the tips of the spine folds, and the aforementioned tape ghosts and residue, easily visable in the photos. The dustjackets show no tanning or fading to the spines. The entry edges of the slipcase show some wear, but it has protected the books very well for over 50 years. Digital photo's available, inquire if interested. Other Tolkien books available, include both the UK and US editions, original cloth bindings, custom fine bindings, and Signed/Numbered/Limited Editions. Near Fine / Near Fine.

        Frederick Sommer: 1939-1962 Photographs

N.p.: Aperture, Inc., 1962. Very light foxing to the thin top edge of the text block, slight pulling at the head of the spine (a problem endemic to this title); near fine in white boards.. First Edition. Small square quarto. Frederick Sommer's first book, entirely designed by him. The scarce cloth edition of the first hardcover book ever published by Aperture, more commonly encountered in wrappers as issue 10:4 of Aperture Magazine. By some reputable accounts as few as 50 copies of the cloth edition were printed, although I think the number is closer to 200. (Roth 162-163).

        Jasenovac Death Camp Memories

Private, Zagreb 1962 - Croatian text. "It's been three years that I got out of the Jasenovac camp but the horror and terror is not left nor will I ever leave.only now dare to talk about it and in my old shoes my notes on what I finely printed there hid. First few lines from rare typed manuscript of WW2 Croatian concentration camp, 32pps w/ front letter dated 1962 and signed by Svarc whose text described unspeakable horrors. This was sent to Dr. Robert Albahary of Princeton, noted scholar and Jewish fugitive with his family from this area in Yugoslavia. He died in 2009. Wikipedia: Jasenovac concentration camp was an extermination camp established in Slavonia by the authorities of the Independent State of Croatia during World War II. The camp was established by the governing Usta¿e regime and not operated by Nazi Germany and was one of the largest concentration camps in Europe. From August 1941 it existed in marshland at the confluence of the Sava and Una rivers near the village of Jasenovac. It was dismantled in April 1945. It was "notorious for its barbaric practices and the large number of victims. In Jasenovac, the majority of victims were ethnic Serbs, whom the Usta¿e wanted to remove along with the Jews, anti-fascist or dissident Croatians, and Romanies. Jasenovac was a complex of five subcamps spread over 210 km2 (81 sq mi) on both banks of the Sava and Una rivers. The largest camp was the "Brickworks" camp at Jasenovac, about 100 km (62 mi) southeast of Zagreb. The overall complex included the Stara Gradi¿ka sub-camp, the killing grounds across the Sava river at Donja Gradina, five work farms, and the U¿tica gypsy camp. During and since World War II, there has been much debate and controversy regarding the number of victims killed at the Jasenovac concentration camp complex in its more than three-and-a-half years of operation. This is a rare piece of survival memories about this death camp that has been previously published. Croatian text on onion skin tissue paper. [Attributes: First Edition]
