Vostell, Wolf, & François Dufrêne
1961. Unpaginated (ca. 60 pp.) collaborative bookwork by Vostell, a leading exponent of Décollage, and Dufrêne, a leading Nouveau Réaliste artist and writer, consisting of concrete poems by Dufrêne accompanied by 23 original screenprints by Vostell in black and white, with additional textual material by Jouffroy at rear. Large square 4to. Original stiff wrpps. Some slight staining and toning to wrpps. Wuppertal (Verlag der Kalender) 1961. Unstated limited edition (an authoritative source informs us that 300 copies were printed). A strikingly beautiful work, with typographical flourishes throughout as well as gorgeously executed screenprints with subtle gradations of grey tones. A radical and monumental work, hinting at influence by the "Affichiste" Mimmo Rotella, and prefiguring the proliferation of concrete and visual poetry and works incorporating words in the subsequent decade. As of August 2019, WorldCat locates only 5 copies in North American institutions.

Ian Fleming
London: Jonathan Cape Ltd, 1961. 1961 First Edition / First State (Jonathan Cape Ltd)Original Unclipped Richard Chopping Designed Dust JacketA superb example of Thunderball by Ian Fleming; published in 1961 by Jonathan Cape Ltd. (No other publication dates)The book is in near fine condition - black clothed hardback cover with skeletal hand motif to front board and gilt lettering to spine. No issues other than very minor bumping at spine foot. The interior is clean and white throughout and has no age related issues whatsoever. I would class the condition as fine other than for the one issue which is a red book shop stamp at the foot of the front paste down page. The leaf ends are also perfectly white and give the book an extremely attractive tidy appearance. The spine and binding are fine and book is tight. The dust jacket is the correct version for this book and is in very good + condition with only a couple of issues to note that prevents me stating it as near fine. The front cover has some faint rubbing at the top edge and there is some small marks at the very edge top and bottomof rear flap. The one real issue of note is some rubbing and chipping at spine top. (See Photos) There is no sun related damaged and the covers and flaps are clean, bright and unmarked. The front flap has a blurb about this book and Ian Fleming; this continues to rear flap. The price is unclipped showing as 15s. net at the foot of front flap.

Jonathan Cape, London. States "First published 1961." Smaller octavo with the eight previous Bond adventures listed "uniform with this volume" opposite title page. NO dust jacket. Full-bound in black cloth (no book-club deboss found) with skeletal hand blindstamped to front board. "Ian Fleming" signed to title page (name only.) We had this from a British seller who reported he was discouraged from listing this as a bona fide signed copy, since Fleming was believed to have always signed to the blank FFE, never to the title page. Signature is a reasonably good match for others found Online, but we claim no expertise in authenticating Ian Fleming signatures; potential buyers are urged to consult the attached scans and make their own judgments. 254 pp. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Kennedy, John F. (Joe DiMaggio)
Washington, D.C: , January 5, 1961. Washington, D.C, January 5, 1961. Original Inaugural Committee invitation to the inauguration of John Fitzgerald Kennedy on Friday, January 20, 1961 from the collection of baseball legend Joe DiMaggio. Octavo, with the gilt Inaugural seal. Laid in is an invitation to the Inaugural Ball, ticket to the Inaugural ball, invitation to the Inaugural Concert, calendar of Inaugural activities, and the original transmittal envelopes for the invitations addressed to Joe DiMaggio. From the collection of Joe DiMaggio with a letter of provenance signed by his granddaughters Paula DiMaggio Hamra and Kathie DiMaggio Stein. Both Kennedy and DiMaggio had romantic relationships with Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe. DiMaggio and Monroe were married at San Francisco City Hall on January 14th, 1954, marking the culmination of years of constant media attention. After their honeymoon in Japan and Korea, the couple returned to Hollywood where tension began to build due to DiMaggio's discomfort with his wife's vivacious image. In September of 1954, on the New York City set of the director Billy Wilder's The Seven Year Itch, DiMaggio became irate as Monroe filmed the now-famous scene in which she stands over a subway grate with the air blowing up her skirt. The couple were divorced in October 1954, only 274 days after the day of their marriage ceremony. In May of 1962, Monroe took a break from shooting the 20th Century Fox film Something's Got to Give, to sing "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" on stage at President John F. Kennedy's early birthday celebration at Madi … [Click Below for Full Description]

Luis Miguel Dominguin
New York: Excellent condition. This is a first edition book published in 1961 by Harry Abrams, with a personal commentary in English and Spanish by Luis Miguel Dominguin and an introduction by Georges Boudaille in English. There are approximately 100 full page prints of Picasso drawings done between 1957 and 1959, all on heavy paper and certainly suitable for framing. We purchased the book in the early 1970's and it has been in our library and rarely viewed since that time. The book is in excellent condition, apart from some fading on the spine (as shown in the attached image) and the slip cover is in very good condition, with some bumping at the corners.

U.S. Presidents]: [John F. Kennedy]: [Photography
[Washington, D.C.]: [1961]. Collection of sixteen gelatin silver prints and eight color photographs on heavy stock. Each measuring 10" x 8" approx. All curling at edges. Slight toning to black-and-white prints. Color prints mildly faded. Very good or better overall. very good +. Taken Veteran's Day, November 11, 1961, these images document Kennedy's first presidential visit to Arlington National Cemetery. The president was accompanied by Major General Paul A. Gavan, Commanding General of the Military District of Washington, as well as the VA administrator John S. Gleason, and military aides General Chester Clifton, Colonel Godfrey McHugh, Captain Tazewell Shepard, and National Commander of the Legion of Valor Thomas Stirling. These images document the president's participation in the Veterans Day ceremony, including laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and speaking to a crowd of more than 5,000 at the Memorial Amphitheater. This speech, perhaps a justification for the United States' increasing involvement in Vietnam, was a message of peace through war: "In the end, the only way to maintain the peace is to be prepared in the final extreme to fight for our country - and to mean it. As a nation, we have little capacity for deception. We can convince friend and foe alike that we are in earnest about the defense of freedom only if we are in earnest -- and I can assure the world that we are.".

(Tomatsu, Shomei and Domon, Ken); Yukawa, Hideki (Preface); Maruki, Iri and Maruki, Toshiko (Painting)
Japan: The Japan Council against A & H Bombs, 1961. Tomatsu, Shomei and Domon, Ken. Square quarto size, [140] pp. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States have led to numerous examinations of the war, violence, and death surrounding the attacks. "document 1961" is a collection of haunting photographs by two brilliant and acclaimed Japanese photographers, Shomei Tomatsu (1930-2012) and Ken Domon (1909-1990). The photographs capture the rawness and vulnerability of the people and landscape after the bombings, with images that are often dark and up-close to their subjects. The work of Tomatsu and Domon is separated by a three-page fold-out painting, printed in purple, by husband and wife Iri and Toshiko Maruki; the paintings show several panels of bodies, distorted and indistinguishable, matching the gritty tone of the photographs. ___DESCRIPTION: Full white cloth with grey spiral designs on the front and rear boards, grey lettering on the spine, endpapers with black-and-white photographs, title page in brown, black-and-white photographs by Shomei Tomatsu and Ken Domon throughout, including one three-page fold-out monochrome painting in purple by Iri Maruki and Toshiko Maruki; square quarto size (11" by 11"), 140 unnumbered pages. ___CONDITION: Volume is very good, with a strong, square text block, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; cloth boards have overall light soiling, very light rubbing to the head and tail of the spine, corners are gently bumped, and there is one small crease to a corner of the fold-out paintin … [Click Below for Full Description]

Moncrif, Francois-Augustin Paradis de; Bretnor, Reginald (Translation)
London: The Golden Cockerel Press, 1961. Otten, T. Limited Edition. Number 58 of 100 copies in a special binding, of a total edition of 400, large octavo size, 187 pp., inscribed by Reginald Bretnor. "Les Chats", a collection of eleven letters and ten poems about cats, was first published in 1727. The book was an immediate success among cat lovers, but quickly became the subject of many cruel satires and skits, enough to cause the author to withdraw it from his collected works. Despite its wearisome history, it survived unbeaten and in its translation by Reginald Bretnor, can continue to delight the persistant ailurophile. "Coypel's designs were etched by de Caylus for the original edition, Paris 1727; the collotype reproductions for this new edition were taken from the copies which were executed by T. Otten for the second edition, Rotterdam 1728." ___DESCRIPTION: Original blue morocco with red morocco panels, gilt-stamped medallion with cat vignette to upper board, the spine lettered in gilt with gilt printer's device, with two raised bands, top edge gilt, fore- and bottom edges uncut, title page printed in black and red, numerous etchings throughout, fold-out geneology; Perpetua type, Saunders mould-made paper, large octavo size (9.75" by 6"), pagination: [1-4] 5-187, one of 100 copies in deluxe morocco binding, number 58, signed and dated "8/21/77" by the translator with the caricature of a cat beneath his signature on the limitation page.
