Hilmar Pabel (* 17. September 1910 in Rawitsch / Provinz Posen; - 6. KEYWORDS:germany

        The Birthday Party

London: Methuen, 1960. First edition. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by Harold Pinter on the title page. Near fine in a near fine dust price-clipped dust jacket with light rubbing to the extremities. The Birthday Party is the second full-length play by Harold Pinter and one of Pinter's best-known and most-frequently performed plays. The Birthday Party is about Stanley Webber, an erstwhile piano player in his 30s, who lives in a rundown boarding house, run by Meg and Petey Boles, in an English seaside town, "probably on the south coast, not too far from London". Two sinister strangers, Goldberg and McCann, who arrive supposedly on his birthday and who appear to have come looking for him, turn Stanley's apparently innocuous birthday party organized by Meg into a nightmare.

FELLINI, FEDERICO, Director) LA DOLCE VITA (1960) Italian program

Riama Film 1960 - Vintage original 10 ¼ x 12 ¾" (26 x 31 cm.) program; illustrated, saddle-stitched card wrappers, Italy. Rome: Riama Film, 1960. A striking and rare first-run program for what can easily be described as Fellini's most pivotal film, if not his finest. Unlike the more sentimental and abstract films that would follow, LA DOLCE VITA is an unflinching seven-day journey through 1960s Rome, with Mastroianni, a jaded journalist at the center of the story, constantly surrounded by revelry, beautiful women and a beautiful city, but no semblance of happiness or love. This deluxe program reflects Fellini's use of stark black-and-white throughout the film, with nights that are noirish and daytime sequences that are blindingly, uncomfortably bright. Throughout are lonely women, photographers, crowds, clubs, parties and general debauchery, with Mastroianni coming close enough to his humanity to touch it, but unable to do so. Especially rare to find an original Italian promotional book for this seminal Italian film. NEAR FINE with a couple of tiny stains. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

White / Alderney / Channel Isles", and has a lengthy written note to "Dearest Usill" about the possibility of recording the play: "For sound on a record, every melodramatic effect would have to be used... This is for fun and splendour, for Richard [Burton] to let himself go in, not for dons." The is no record of Macbeth the Knife having been recorded by Argo, though there is record of a Shakespeare parody under the same title being performed by Danny Kaye on The Danny Kaye Show, 2nd October 1963. This typescript includes three contemporary autograph letters signed from White to Usill, mentioning Richard Burton again (with whom Usill had a working relationship) and discussing the recording of other works including The Sword and the Stone, which was recorded by Usill at Argo in 1963, with music by Benjamin Britten.
