The corrections are not merely for spelling and grammar but include changes in syntax and wording to bring the translation closer to standard English usage. Laid in are a page-and-a-half of typed "Queries" regarding the precise meaning intended in certain passages. Some general light wear, a very good copy and unique. $975. Signed. 1st Edition.

      (Paris, 1959). Folio. 65pp. From an edition of 211 copies, this is one of fifteen copies signed by the artist, Jacques Villon, the poet, Henri Pichette, and by the editor, Pierre de Tartas; and with an extra suite of all thirteen etchings, plus duplicate extra suites of the four double-page etchings, two of which are in color. This extraordinary illustrated work shows Villon's range of style, as it includes abstract, Cubist, landscape, and floral studies. It also shows his range of technique, with areas of cross-hatching, aquatint, and color aquatint. The two-color aquatint spreads are interspersed with the text of the poems. A member of the Duchamp family, Villon left the study of law to join the Cubist movement and became particularly known for his virtuosity in color etching. The extra suites of the four double-page plates are printed on japon nacré. This copy has been bound by French master-binder Renaud Vernier in full dark brown box calf with plaquettes set into the front and rear panels that rotate on a stainless steel axis. The plaquettes are formed from two types of lacquered exotic hardwood: macassar ebony and French Guyanan wacapou. Vernier explores the double nature of the title through the revolving panel, placing "Dents de Lait" on one side with the lettering in dark ebony against the lighter wacapou wood; "Dents de Loup" is given the opposite treatment on the other side of the panel. This motif is extended to the back cover, where Villon's name appears on one side, wacapou on ebony, and Pichette's name on the other in reverse. Endleaves are done in "Sienna earth" suede. The finish work on the binding was executed by Claude Ribal, Vernier's long-time collaborator, whose initials appear on the lower rear doublure. Housed in a matching chemise and slipcase. The former apprentice of legendary binder Pierre-Lucien Martin, Vernier has been recognized by France as a living national heritage, and in 2000, he was named "Maître d'Art" -- the only binder in France to be awarded this title. A brilliant synthesis of binding and illustration, resulting in the perfect livre d'artiste. Extremely fine.

      Very Good. Britten has penned 6 full bars of music with lyrics from his, "Carmen Basiliense (Cantata Academica)," 1959, which he noted at the end of the bars of music. At the beginning, he writes, "Soprano solo," and on the line below, "Coro (Ten Bass)." He signs below the music, "Benjamin Britten." Britten composed the Cantata for the 500th anniversary of the University of Basel. This long musical quotation is superb and ideal for presentation.

      No date. Ca. 1959.. 84 plates, tipped onto grey card sheets approximately 13 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches, housed in decorative cloth-covered box with title on hinged lid, cloth clasp. On verso of each plate is a description of the image in Russian, English, French, German and Mongolian. Unpaginated (16 page) pamphlet (8 x 6 inches) with grey tie. There are 24 plates in color (most by the artist Idamsurun) and 60 black and white photographic plates. The plates depict a wide variety of Mongolian arts and crafts, including costumes, furniture, silver work, ivory carvings, etc. The artisan works appear chiefly of an historical rather than contemporary nature. The pamphlet contains a 3 page article "Mongolian Popular Arts and Crafts" translated into five languages. OLCC records suggest the University of Mongolia as publisher and the place of publication as Ulan Bator, Mongolia. .

Il celebre film di fantascienza usc?, con produzione americana, nel 1958. Sposata da poco con Bill, Maggie non capisce i suoi strani comportamenti. Con orrore scopre che si tratta di una creatura aliena che ha assunto i tratti del marito. Provenienti da un pianeta morente, degli alieni sono scesi sulla Terra alla ricerca di madri per i loro figli. Assunte le sembianze degli abitanti del posto, li tengono in sospensione vitale in un disco volante. Nonostante l'alieno manifesti amore per la terrestre, Maggie avverte l'FBI, ma non sar? facile trovare qualcuno che non sia ancora "posseduto". Alla fine un gruppo di terrestri distrugge le macchine per la duplicazione dei corpi e libera i prigionieri. Gli invasori si dissolvono. Questo divertente film girato da un collaboratore di Fritz Lang, si rif? a "L'invasione degli ultracorpi" (1956), ma si distingue per l'originalit? della storia che vede l'alieno veramente innamorato della terrestre. Sull'affisso alberga l'espressione della povera mogliettina che si trova un marito dagli artigli verdi, un essere mostruoso di cui Marcello Colizzi ritrae solo quel tanto da farne intuire le fattezze "inconsuete", preferendo concentrarsi sulla moglie atterrita, in perfetta linea con il linguaggio della cartellonistica fantascientifica, che vede, nella donna che urla in preda al panico, uno dei soggetti preferiti. Fra gli altri titoli illustrati da Colizzi, menzioniamo gli italiani "Il Decameron", "La voglia matta", "Il sorpasso", accanto agli americani "L'uomo che uccise Liberty Valance" e "Questo pazzo, pazzo, pazzo, pazzo mondo". Alcuni strappetti marginali e altri alla piegatura centrale, lungo il margine laterale sinistro. Per il resto ottimo lo stato di conservazione. .

      [Basel], 1959. 25x40 cm. 3 title leaves + (9, 3 blanks) pages of Corbusier's sketches, in French, German and English + 3 photo plates (examples of interior designs) + 14 double-page plates of wallpapers + 20 plates of "basic colours" + a plastic folder at end of the volume containing 2 cardboard windows (used to show combinations of colours). Mounted on rear inner board are small samples of the 20 basic colours, forming what Le Corbusier calls a "Keyboard of colours". Original clothbacked pictorial boards. Spine ends and corners are a trifle worn. One of the wallpaper plates has a hardly recognizable mending at the fore-edge. A fine copy of this rare work. The collaboration between the Swiss wallpaper company Salubra and Le Corbusier resulted in two collections of wallpapers, published in 1932 and 1959, respectively. The first collection consisted solely of plain coloured papers, while this second collection contains two series of wallpapers, called "Wall" and "Marble". This second collection often lacks a number of plates, since Le Corbusier suggests that they should be taken out and hung on a wall, according to colour combinations achieved by using the cardboard windows on the "Keyboard of colours"

(The entire volume: 96 pp.).. The seminal first printing of Kripke's debut article, which provided the basis for his logic and for the model theory for modal logic in general. The work constitutes the very beginning of Kripke Semantics (often called possible world semantics). Kripke's works in general are rare in fist editions. Many of them remain unpublished and are only known in privately circulated manuscripts.The American philosopher Saul A. Kripke (born 1940) is an exceedingly important logician and philosopher of language and one of the most powerful and influential thinkers of analytic and Anglo-American philosophy. He is considered the greatest living philosopher and perhaps the greatest since Wittgenstein. In 2001 he was awarded the Schock Prize in Logic and Philosophy, which is considered the philosopical equivalent of the Nobel Prize.Kripke, who grew up in Omaha in a religious Jewish family, was somewhat of a prodigy child. During grammar school he got intimately acquainted with and mastered to perfection algebra, geometry and calculus, and very early on he took up philosophy, which later became his career. Still a teenager, in high school, he wrote a work that was to change the face of philosophical logic forever, namely the groundbreaking paper "A Completeness Theorem for Modal Logic", which was printed a few years later, in 1959, in the Journal of Symbolic Logic, while he was in his first year at Harvard University. This seminal debut work proposed what later came to be known as Kripke models for modal logic. The story goes that the paper earned a letter from the department of mathematics urging Kripke to apply for a job there, to which he is said to have written an answer explaining "My mother said that I should finish high school and go to college first."In 1962 he graduated from Harvard University, where he remained until 1968, first as a member of the Harvard Society of Fellows and then as a lecturer. During these years he developed the logical theories founded in the "Completeness Theorem" further and made seminal contributions to the field of logic and semantics. Kripke Semantics is a formal semantics for non-classical logic systems that Kripke began developing in his teenage years, first published something on in 1959 (the present work) and further developed in the 60'ies and. The development of Kripke Semantics was no less than a breakthrough in the making of non-classical logics, of which no model theory existed before Kripke's. With this work, Kripke laid the foundation for proving completeness theorems for modal logic, and for identifying the weakest normal modal logic, which is now named K after him

      An absolutely mint copy of his first paper on modal logic which marks the beginning of Kripke Semantics. "Kripke made his early reputation as a logical prodigy, especially through work on the completeness of systems of modal logic. The three classic papers are 'Completeness Theorem in Modal Logic' (1959, Journal of Symbolic Logic), 'Semantical Analysis of Modal Logic' (1963, Zeitschrift für Mathematische Logik ...) and 'Sematical Considerations on Modal Logic' (1963, Acta Philosophica Fennica). ... Kripke sematics: The standard semantic treatment for modal languages with symbols for necessity and possibility, due to Saul Kripke. The model is a set of possible worlds and a relation on them, corresponding to the idea of one world being 'accessible' from another. A valuation function then evaluates sentences as true or false at worlds. Using these models, Kripke was able to bring new treatments to issues such as the decidability, independaance, and completeness of different systems of modal logic, where different conditions on the accessibility relation correspond to different strengths of system."
