London: Jonathan Cape Ltd, 1958. A superb early edition of this classic Fleming novel in very good + condition throughout complete with original dust jacket. This edition as stated on the copyright page is the 1958 re-issue. The other dates shown are both from 1955; the first edition and second impression. The dust jacketis the correct one for this edition and shows a price of 13s. 6d. net on the inside front flap. The book is in very good + condition and is a superb example for the age. Black clothed hardback covers with silver title at top of front boardand on spine. The boards and spine are in excellent condition with the only issues of note are some very minor bumping to spine ends and also to lower corner edges; this is more pronounced on rear board. There is NO sunning or rubbing. The interior is similarly excellent. Clean unmarked white endpapers and leafs with barely any signs of age toning. The one issue that would keep me from stating that the interioris near fine is the presence of a very small hole at the top of the ffep. (see photos) Other than a faint crease on the title page the leafs are near fine throughout and binding / spine is tight. There is one mark at the foot of the forward leaf ends but otherwise these too are clean andgive the book a very tidy appearance. The dust jacket is in very good condition and retains a nice vibrant quality. There is some sunning to both front and back covers and more noticeably the lower spine. However, this sunning is no more than would be expected and does little to detract from this attractive cover. There is some rubbing … [Click Below for Full Description]

PASTERNAK, Boris
Collins & Harvill, 1958. Octavo, 510pp. original gilt-stamped red cloth, original dust jacket with photo of Pasternak on the rear cover. First edition in English, published one year after its first appearance (in Italian translation) and the same year as the first Russian edition, of Pasternak’s sweeping story of political and emotional upheaval in Revolutionary Russia. After years of what he described as his “long silent duel” with Stalin, Pasternak’s “main literary concern in the final decades of his life his testament, a witness to the experience of the Russian intelligentsia before, during and after the Revolution,” was Doctor Zhivago (Drabble, 742). Rejected for publication in the Soviet Union, it first appeared in Italian translation in 1957, with a Russian edition published in Italy in 1958. Its publication in English and acclaim in the West, culminating in the award of the 1958 Nobel Prize for Literature to Pasternak, unleashed a bitter official Soviet campaign against Pasternak that forced him to decline the prize. In his 1958 New Yorker review, Edmund Wilson called the novel “one of the very great books of our time Doctor Zhivago will, I believe, come to stand as one of the great events in man’s literary and moral history.” Pasternak died in 1960; no edition of his landmark novel saw print in the Soviet Union until 1987. Italian producer Carlo Ponti later acquired the film rights and the book was successfully filmed by Sir David Lean in 1965 and starred Omar Sharif and Julie Christie. It went on to win six academy awards and remains one of the top grossing films o … [Click Below for Full Description]

The plastic spiral binding is perfectly intact and I think all the notches on the covers are intact and not split ( as they often are in this book .) This book has obviously been kept on a bookshelf all these years . and used very little The funny looking black areas on some of the scans are scanner artifacts ,and not folded pages . Blake, William; Keynes, Geoffrey (Bibliographical Statement)
London: Printed at the Trianon Press for the Trustees of the William Blake Trust, 1958. Blake, William. Limited Edition. Number 322 of 480, quarto size, unpaginated (27 leaves of plates with 5 pp. of explanatory text). "The Book of Urizen" contains the first part of Blake's conception of the universal myth. It recounts the story of the creation of the material world and of mankind, and so has to deal with the inherent problem of evil. William Blake (1757-1827) is arguably the most original and highly regarded English author - unusual in that he excelled both as an author and an artist. Although thought mad by his contemporaries, he was also held in high regard for his expressiveness and for the synthesis of philosophical and mystical senses within his work. Blake's work has been spectacularly reproduced through the pochoir technique by Arnold Fawcus and his Trianon Press, which has an undeniable claim to being the finest press of its kind in the last century and has long been known for their unrivaled artworks in fine colour printing. This edition's illuminated pages have been reproduced in France by Messrs. Beaufume, Hourdebaigt and Trianon Press. ___DESCRIPTION: Bound in burgundy quarter morocco with hand-marbled paper sides, backstrip lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, twenty-seven plates printed to rectos only by collotype and pochoir, printed on Arches pure rag paper made to match the paper used by Blake, paper is watermarked with Blake's monogram; unpaginated (27 leaves of plates with 5 pp. of explanatory text), quarto size (11.5" by 9.5"), limited edition, this no. 322 … [Click Below for Full Description]

CAGE, John.
[New York: Art Foundation Press, 1958]. Small octavo, pp. [12]. Original beige card wrappers, medieval illustrations to covers in red and black. Housed in a custom Chelsea Bindery black cloth solander box, titles to spine gilt. Excess thread from stitching, light browning to upper outer corner of covers, slight creasing to lower outer corner of front cover; an excellent copy. Text printed in red and black. With 6 full-page illustrations, diagrams and sheet music to text. First edition. This 12 page booklet was bound into the ArtNews Annual volume XXVII. The short discourse is written as an imaginary conversation between John Cage and Erik Satie, in which, "because [Satie] died over thirty years before, neither of us hears what the other says". Satie's answers are therefore "ones he is reported to have made and excerpts from his writings". The text was later republished in Cage's 1961 work Silence: Lectures and Writings. Cage is said to have popularised Satie's music, describing Satie's Socrate as one of the most significant works ever written. Cage organised the first notable performance of Satie's Vexations, a single sheet of notation designed to be played 840 times in a performance, in New York in 1963. Founded in 1902, ArtNews is the oldest and most widely circulated art magazine in the world, published in print four times a year. This work is uncommon, with just one copy of the Annual traced on OCLC. John Cage, Silence: Lectures and Writings pp. 76-82. [Attributes: First Edition]
