Harper Lee
Lippincott, 1960. TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD TRUE FIRST EDITION IN ORIGINAL / UNRESTORED DUST JACKET OFFERED FAR BELOW THE ACTUAL VALUE Yes, as stated on the copyright page, this is a true first edition of Harper Lee's, To Kill a Mockingbird and it has the original first printing dust jacket (unrestored). The book is in VG+ condition, and the binding is quite strong. The boards show very well and the corners are still quite square. There is a name of a previous owner on the front endpaper. The pages - inside and edges - are nice and bright. It is one of the nicest first editions I have seen on eBay in a long, long time. Similarly, the dust jacket is quite lovely and it has had no restoration. It is not price clipped - showing the price of $3.95 - and meets all of the criteria for a first issue dust jacket. The photo of Harper Lee is on the back, the Jonathan Daniels blurb is present, and there is no statement of a later printing on the front flap. The front and black panels show the green print. I took it out of its mylar cover for the photos, but now it is once again under the mylar cover and protected. As for the book, hopefully the photos tell all. This is listed far below the actual value, especially after Harper Lee passed and collectible copies were quickly snatched up. I will package it in a good box and provide tracking to the US. Shipping is free and best of luck. [Attributes: First Edition; In Dust Jacket]

1960. good. Quality Authentication - Fine Memorabilia Harper Lee Signed Book To Kill A Mockingbird - COA JSA Harper Lee Signed Book To Kill A Mockingbird - COA JSA Haper Lee was an American novelist widely known for To Kill a Mockingbird, published in 1960. Immediately successful, it won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize and has become a classic of modern American literature. The plot and characters of the book are loosely based on Lee's observations of her family and neighbors, as well as an event that occurred near her hometown in 1936, when she was 10 years old. The novel deals with the irrationality of adult attitudes towards race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s, as depicted through the eyes of two children. The novel was inspired by racist attitudes in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. Presented is an autographed copy of the famed book, To Kill a Mockingbird. It is the 35th Anniversary Edition from 1995 and it was signed by Harper on a title page in blue pen ("9-10") with the inscription, "To Janet Nelson - best wishes." DAHL, Roald
London Michael Joseph, 1960. First impression. 132 x 204mm, 255pp. Blue cloth boards with silver titles to the spine and red wash to top edge. Price clipped dust jacket. There is a hand written note by Dahl which was sent with the book to the previous owner, stuck onto the front free endpaper: 'For my old friend Ben [Reuss]. In memory of sweet days and such crazy things as The Grubber and The Clagger and Binks and Pee Hand and Harpky and Brollies and Two hundred and forty Blue and M.H.M. Arnold and Teamers (which we were) and Boazers (which we were not). From Roald. November 1960.' Ben Reuss was a fellow pupil at Repton school and provided background information to Donald Sturrock for his book Storyteller: The Life of Road Dahl. There is a 15mm band of fading from the joint of the lower board and a 10mm band of fading from its top edge. The spine is sun faded. There are pencil marks on the front board and little fading at the top - please see image. Internally, the pages are generally clean but there are occasional finger marks notably to p21, p46 & p66/67 and the top of p65/66 has a crease, where presumably, it has been folded over at some point. The letter, written in ink, is attached to the front free endpaper. The dust jacket has small loss to all fore and spine edge corners and has small chips and creases to spine tips. In all a good book with a unique Dahl inscription and an excellent provenance. If you would like further information or images, please let us know. Each of the eight sections in this major photographic monograph, "have in common the photographer's deftly understated portraits, printed here in the subtlest gravure. Harper Lee
New York: Harper Lee. To Kill a Mockingbird. Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott, 1960. The stated "FIRST EDITION"--that is, the true first printing. A sound copy: the spine is cocked and sunned, and there are a few faint pale stains to the boards. Internally, the book is bright and unmarked, except for a few small beauty marks--a faint spot on the title page, and another small brown spot that appears in the margin of six leaves, not touching the text; I would guess it's a food or drink sort of stain, though it's about the size of a cigarette burn. (It's not a cigarette burn.) The original jacket is the rare, correct first issue. The $3.95 price is intact; Lee's photo appears on the rear panel, and Capote's blurb in green on the front flap; this is the state with the rear-flap blurb by Jonathan Daniels. There's shallow chipping at the spine ends and corners, but the jacket is really nearly entire. It is, however, affected by the edge wear and creasing usually encountered. A few short closed tears have been archivally mended for stability (with acid-free tape that is easily removed), but--importantly--this copy is entirely original and unrestored. There are faint half-moon water stains at both the front and rear flap folds, only visible on the back of the jacket. NB: though both are correct and original, this jacket and book have been married. That is, there's no corollary water staining to the boards. All said, a "regular guy" of a copy--but the first-issue jacket is becoming particularly hard to find. 1960. Good condition besides one tore page shown in pics. A Stunning Journey into the World of Peter Beard Limited to 2,250 numbered copies, each signed by Peter Beard IN A NUTSHELL This enormous leather-bound opus presents Peter Beard's life and work in Kenya in all its passion, adventure, and its forthright account of ecological crisis. It includes his expansive collages, reproduced as a group for the first time, as well as smaller-scale work and revelatory spreads from his diaries, magnified to show every detail of Beard's meticulous script and drawings, as well as stones, bones, and other ephemera pasted into its pages. "The most poignant are the ones of decomposing elephants where, over time, as they disintegrate, the bones form magnificent sculpture--sculpture which is not just abstract form but has all the memory traces of life, despair and futility." --Francis Bacon on Peter Beard's photographs Photographer, collector, diarist, and writer of books Peter Beard has fashioned his life into a work of art; the illustrated diaries he kept from a young age evolved into a serious career as an artist and earned him a central position in the international art world. He was painted by Francis Bacon, painted on by Salvador Dalí, and made diaries with Andy Warhol; he toured with Truman Capote and the Rolling Stones, created books with Jacqueline Onassis and Mick Jagger--all of whom are brought to life, literally and figuratively, in his work. As a fashion photographer, he took Vogue stars like Veruschka to Africa and brought new ones--most notably Iman--back to the U.S. with him … [Click Below for Full Description]

Caldwell, Erskine; Christie, Agatha; Hersey, John, and Rod Serling
. An interesting collection of four diverse writers discussing their craft at the beginning of the 1960's. Erskine Caldwell, 1 page typed letter signed, September 9, 1961 to a Mr. Sauser. 11 lines on writing. He emphasizes practice, avoiding imitation; Agatha Christie, 1 page typed letter signed to a Mr. Thomas Kelly, at the Gonzaga Preparatory School in Spokane. She writes that writers seldom want to talk about writing, she offers no advice explains, "I am just an entertainer."; John Hersey, 1 page autographed letter signed, October 21, 1961 to Mike Holien. 14 lines on writing. He avoids speed and talks about savoring the words, to feel their value, and how sonorities reinforce their meaning, and engaging all five senses in the sheer enjoyment of our supreme endowment which is language." ; Rod Serling, one typed page signed, October 3, 1961 to Mr. Robert Austin, Gonzaga Preparatory School, "Write and keep writing. Respect another writer but never imitate him. Learn patience because it is as necessary as a typewriter and never be afraid to speak out and say what you believe. This is the function of the writer--to call the truths as he sees them." A very nice worthwhile collection.

Harper Lee
Lippincott, 1960. TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD Yes, as stated on the copyright page, this is a true first edition of Harper Lee's, To Kill a Mockingbird. The book is in VG+ condition, and the binding is quite strong, square, and the pages are bright. The boards show very well. There is some markings to the front and back endpapers (a previous dust jacket was probably attached) and I have included this in the photos. It really is quite a lovely copy and has held up well. It is offered far below the actual value and any reasonable offer has a chance. It is now protected in a facsimile dust jacket and this will make for a wonderful display. Shipping within the US is free. It will be shipped in a good box and it will have a tracking number. Shipping is $50 for outside of the US. This is a wonderful opportunity to own an incredibly scarce and valuable first edition. Best of luck. [Attributes: First Edition]
