Lettre autographe signée à un collectionneur

      - 2 pages, encre bleue, un feuillet de 210 x 270 mm. Chemise demi-chagrin noir. Hans Bellmer."

        The Catcher in the Rye

Little, Brown & Co 1951 - One of the most significant works of 20th century fiction – a true classic. Fine in Near Fine first issue jacket. ******* The book has minor spots to the top edge, otherwise fine. The jacket is truly great, but let me walk through the minor faults first – a modicum of chipping to the spine head, two corners, and along a bit of the top front panel, a tiny closed tear at the upper front panel, a bit rubbed at the folds. And perhaps most modest general patina of age endemic to all objects on Earth that haven’t been hermetically sealed. That about covers it. There is no fading to the spine or really elsewhere for that matter. Many other booksellers would probably call this an “else Fine” jacket, but my aim for brutal and probably self-injurious accuracy beckons me to stay with Near Fine. Now one can take a jeweler’s eye to any jacket and find any number of faults, but make no mistake - this is a fresh copy and priced to make your dream of owning this classic a reality. Don’t forego buying a new car or paying your child’s college tuition in order to buy an equal copy for much more. ****** “I'd say its enduring appeal is not due to the fact that Salinger was an expert writer but due to the universality of Holden's emotions and expressions Books that are termed great are termed so, not because they have fantastic plots or unique literary devices but are in fact, universal and timeless in the feelings they evoke within us.” (Mona) [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        End of the Affair, The

London William Heinemann 1951 First Issue, without the divisional numeral (and thus chapter division) of Book 2, VIII. 8vo: [6],237,[1]pp. Publisher's grey cloth, spine lettered in gilt, biege end papers, grey and white price-clipped typographic dust jacket. About Fine (mild lightening to spine); about Fine jacket (several miniscule closed tears). A most attractive copy. Wobbe A27a Fine- In the introduction to this novel in Introductions to Three Novels, Greene reminds the reader that The End of the Affair was one of his first attempts to use the first person. He also reports that Great Expectations and The Good Soldier were deeply influential in the novel's development. "From a technical standpoint, [The End of the Affair] is a masterful blend of diary entries, letters, and shifting viewpoints, yet from a religious standpoint, it is the most spiritually challenging record of obsessive jealousy and hate that Greene ever produced . . . The fourth of Greene's explicitly Catholic novels, [it] in fact concerns a love triangle. It is also a kind of detective story, in which the mysterious third party, of whom Bendrix is so jealous, proves to be spiritual. Greene dedicated the novel to 'C.' [Lady Catherine Walston], with whom he was then having an affair."
