        Signed photograph

      - Dashing vintage matte-finish 7.25 x 9.25 inch head-and-shoulders photo of Lanza in a suit and tie, signed and inscribed to assistant director (Kiss me Kate, Annie get your Gun, Showboat etc.) George Rhein in fountain pen "Hello Pidge--best of everything always from, Mario Lanza." In fine condition, with trimmed edges (more pronounced to top and left edges), and sentiment a shade lighter than signature. Lanza's seven major film roles include a performance as Caruso in "The Great Caruso" (1951) and "The Toast of New Orleans" (1950), in which he sang his greatest hit, "Be My Love" (Brodsky and Cahn). Although Lanza had been told by Koussevitzy that "yours is a voice such as is heard once in a hundred years," and although the NY Times noted early on that he had "few equals among tenors of the day in terms of quality, warmth, and power," Lanza sang only in one staged opera, Madama Butterfly (New Orleans, 1948). He was the first singer to earn gold records with million-sellers in both classical and popular categories and Maria Callas called him "Caruso's successor." In 1973, Callas said that her "biggest regret" was "not having had the opportunity of singing with greatest tenor" she had ever heard. Signed photographs of Lanza, who died at age 38, are exceptionally scarce.

Coma Dance scored for Pianoforte. Autograph musical manuscript. Signed and dated November 26, 1950 at conclusion

Coma Dance was "composed after El-Dabh heard that his father was ill and could fall into a diabetic coma. The work was intended to send healing energy to his father." Notes provided by Halim El-Dabh. The piece was first performed by El-Dabh at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts, onn July 28, 1951. It also received performances in New York; Kent, Ohio; Germany; Italy; and Switzerland. Published in 2007 as part of the series "Piano Music of Africa and the African Diaspora," Oxford University Press in 2007 and recorded on a CD released by MSR Classics in 2008m, "Piano Music by Composers of African Descent," Volume 2. An Egyptian-born American composer, performer, ethnomusicologist, and educator, El-Dabh came to the United States in 1950, becoming a part of the New York music scene that included Cage, Varèse, and Hovhaness. He went on to study composition with Krenek, Copland, Dallapiccola, and others. "El-Dabh's compositional style is influenced by Egyptian folk and traditional music. Frequently monodic, his works feature complex rhythms and much use of percussion. His career was launched in 1949 with a highly acclaimed performance of It is Dark and Damp on the Front (1948) at All Saints Cathedral, Cairo. In 1950 he made his début as a solo drummer, under the direction of Stokowski, in the first performance of Tahmeela. Other works include Clytemnestra (1958), One More Gaudy Night (1961), A Look at Lightning (1962) and Lucifer (1975), commissioned by Martha Graham; Sound and Light of the Pyramids of Giza (1960), written for the Cultural Ministry of the Egyptian Government and performed daily at the pyramids; and New Pharaoh's Suite, written for the Cleveland Museum of Art to accompany a visiting Ethiopian exhibit from the Louvre (1996). Spectrum no.1 ‘Symphonies in Sonic Vibration' (1955) and Leiyla and the Poet (1959) have been recorded." Denise A Seachrist in Grove Music Online. An early pioneer of electronic music, El-Dabh composed one of the earliest known works of tape music, or "musique concrète," in 1944, The Expression of Zaar. He also scored four ballets for Martha Graham: Clytemnestra (1958), One More Gaudy Night (1961), A Look at Lightning (1962), and Lucifer (1975). "El-Dabh is probably the best known composer of Arabic descent and his works are highly regarded in Egypt, where he is considered the foremost living composer among that nations's 'second generation' of contemporary composers." Wikipedia.. 1f. (recto title, verso blank), 5 pp. + 1p. sketch for an unrelated work "comprised of vocal sounds SATB around the word 'Leylye." Notated in black ink on 24-stave G.         Jerusalem. The Emanation of the Giant Albion.

4to. London: Trianon Press for the William Blake Trust, [1951]. 4to, (6), ix text, and 100 pochoir colorplates. Full red morocco extra by Bayntun, a gorgeous copy sumptuously bound (as the book deserves). Limited to 516 copies, this copy no. 176. The definitive facsimile of one of Blake’s greatest works and the first of the magnificent series of facsimiles created by the Trianon Press of Blake’s illuminated books. The Preludium is by Joseph Wicksteed and the Bibliographical Statement by Geoffrey Keynes. Bentley 78. "Blake's etched copperplates, giving the text of his poem and the basis of the designs, were printed by him in a rich orange ink and were then illuminated by hand in water colours and gold. The etched base has now been reproduced by collotype in orange and the prints have then been coloured by hand by a stencilling process, so that the final result bears the closest possible resemblance to Blake's original plates. An average of forty-four applications of water colours was required for each full page illustration, of which there are four. Of the remainder, fifty-one have some text with designs filling half the page or more, and thirty-five have text with small marginal decorations.". (Introduction) Copies were issued in fascicles, or a dull blue buckram binding: This copy was bound for presentation and is magnificent.

        Dianetics: The Original Thesis.

Wichita, Kansas: The Wichita Publishing Co., distributed by The Hubbard Dianetic Foundation. Inc., [1951] - Octavo. Original plain green cloth. With the dust jacket. Ends and corners very slightly rubbed, an excellent copy with the jacket bearing only a few small nicks, tears and marks. First edition, first impression. The Original Thesis was originally written in 1948 and distributed among close friends - it quickly gained attention and in 1951 received its first official publication in this scarce hardcover edition. This copy bears the corrective ink stamp to the jacket front panel and the title page, changing the address from The Hubbard Dianetic Foundation, Wichita, to a new personal address, "L. Ron Hubbard, 1405 north central, phoenix, arizona" - an evocative indicator of the now-international Scientology movement being run out of town in its nascent stages. [Attributes: First Edition]
