1952. Another awesome collectible from the warehouse... Up for sale is a very nice copy of the first American edition, first printing of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. This was published by Doubleday, New York in 1952. Book measures 7.5" X 5 and is 285 pages. Book has it's original dust jacket in good condition with some small creases. The book itself is also in good condition with no writing or stains. I am not an expert on books, but this is in very nice condition for it's age. This book looks like other copies I have seen going for $2,000.00 or more. Book comes with custom slipcase to keep it nice. As a bonus, I am including an 8" X 8" original acrylic painting on board of lovely Anne. Please look at all photos as they are part of the description. Thanks for looking! As always...FREE SHIPPING! Please ask any questions you may have before bidding. I always strive to please my customers. My 100% positive feedback is no coincidence and is a source of pride. Make sure to check out our other eBay auctions for more awesome items. Thanks for looking and have a nice day!

Zhengyan, Hu (Cheng-yen, Hu)
1952. 4 vols., facsimile edition of the 17th century work from the Ten Bamboo Studio showcasing a variety of paper samples with original colorful woodblock decoration, augmented with the gonghua technique of blindstamping and printed in multiple colors, decorative motifs include flowers and trees, vases, furniture, landscapes, butterflies, animals, and figures. Four volumes with orig. handmade paper wrpps. with flecked gold leaf decoration, bound with brown silk cord, housed together in a folding boards portfolio covered with silk brocade, label mounted to front cover, with two bone closures. Some slight browning to label and inside of portfolio. Beijing (Rongbao Zhai) 1952. The original work was published at the end of the Ming period, circa 1644-1645, and was compiled by Zhengyan, a late Ming dynasty seal carver. First printed on poetry-writing paper, it contained some characters from classic tales and utilized a special printing process that allowed for printing of multiple shades and colors, augmented with blindstamping. Few copies of the original survived, but one was discovered by historian Zheng Zhenduo and author Lu Xun in the 1930's. This copy became the master copy of the Republic and was the source of the first reprint in 1935. However, the master copy was in poor condition and the subsequent reprint was incomplete. In 1952 the Rongbao Zhai studio in Beijing issued a faithful reproduction of the original 17th century work, recutting blocks and incorporating the original "gonghua" blindstamping technique. In his work on the T … [Click Below for Full Description]

Kurt Vonnegut Jr. PLAYER PIANO. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons. 1952. The scarce advance reading issue of Vonnegut's first book, signed on the title page at a later date (with his famous "asshole" asterisk). All estimates of the number issued are in the two digits. This issue used sheets from the forthcoming first edition (with the publisher's "A" and seal on the copyright page), bound in matte paper wraps that duplicate the design of the first edition dustjacket, with the copy (and $3.00 price) from the jacket pasted inside the front cover. A near fine copy, sunned at the extremities, with a short (3/4"), stable split at the bottom of the front joint. Literally (literally!) one of the first Vonnegut books ever, in superior condition, and, for gravy, signed. [Attributes: First Edition]

This new-old page image retains the large, clear type of the Longprimer we all know and love, but has a crisper letter form and less of the broken type and 'spread' that mark out much-used letterpress typesettings subsequently transferred to film and, only more recently, to digital scans. VON BRAUN, WERNHER
[Huntsville, Alabama, 1952.]. This is an original signed drawing of a space ship by Wernher von Braun, the father of the American space program. He made this drawing for his landmark Collier s series Man Will Conquer Space Soon (1952-54), which played a central role in inspiring a generation of rocket scientists and convincing the public of the possibility of space exploration. These essays covered seemingly every aspect of manned space flight and anticipated many developments including the enormous multi-stage vertical launch vehicle (to become Saturn V), a horizontal landing space ferry (the Space Shuttle), an orbiting space station, a lunar landing, the establishment of a base on the moon, and ultimately a manned expedition to Mars. Von Braun s technical accomplishments alone would have made him the father of the American space program, but he was also the foremost popularizer of the notion of space travel. The essays for which he prepared this drawing helped make possible the great developments of the American space program and likely influenced John F. Kennedy s vision of an American presence in space. Apollo space program director Sam Phillips declared that America would not have reached the moon without von Braun s help. This drawing of a space ship presents a visionary view of the coming Space Age by one of its central figures. Von Braun s technical drawings are very rare in the market. 8 ½ x 10 ½ in. One page, pencil on drafting paper. Excellent condition. Framed. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

Hemingway, Ernest
New York: Charles Scribner's & Sons, 1952. First edition of Hemingway's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and one of his most famous works. Octavo, original blue cloth. Fine in a very good dust jacket with light rubbing and wear. Photograph of Hemingway by Lee Samuels. A nice example. Upon its publication in 1952 by Charles Scribner's Sons, The Old Man and the Sea was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction the following year and was cited by the Nobel Committee as contributing to the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Hemingway in 1954. The novel reinvigorated Hemingway's literary reputation. It initiated a reexamination of his entire body of work. The novel was received with such alacrity, that it restored many readers' confidence in Hemingway's capability as an author. Indeed, the publisher even wrote on an early dust jacket, calling the novel a "new classic," and it was compared by many critics to such revered works as William Faulkner's "The Bear" and Herman Melville's Moby-Dick.

SCHNEBEL, Dieter 1930-2018
1952. The German composer Dieter Schnebel (1930-2018) defied categorization throughout his career. An ordained minister, he taught religion for twenty years before being appointed professor of experimental music at Berlin's Hochschule der Künste in 1976. Philosophy, theology, and psychology all entered into his view of art, and his compositions embrace a highly open concept, freed from any fixed form or concrete performance."In the 1960s, the first performances of his early works, which could only be vaguely described by the notions of concept art and fluxus, were surrounded by scandal. The more Schnebel understood music as almost unconditioned action in experimental and archetypal situations, the more the performer emancipated him- or herself from the composition. No longer did the performer function as servant of an oeuvre completed in itself, but rather the moment when the music was produced became the true content of the work. Schnebel also broke with traditional listening expectations in other respects. In his works, the human voice often became an unleashed organ. All possibilities to produce sounds were allowed - singing, speaking, croaking, but also absolute silence. In addition, the gestures of the performers played an ever-growing role in Schnebel's art: The frontal concert situation was eliminated. Musicians began to move through the room, while the beginning and end of the concert were no longer discernible as such. ... Musical art - to Schnebel, this always was an ethic concept, a possible connection between inner and outer world, individual and society - … [Click Below for Full Description]

1952. In good order and displaying well. Yvonne Barlow (Modern British 1924 - 2017) **** 'Sicilian and Mule' Oil on Canvas Date: 1952 Canvas size: 18 x 12 inches. Overall, including the frame: 23.5 x 17.5 inches. **** An interesting and relatively rare original oil on canvas painting by the respected and intriguing artist, Yvonne Barlow, active throughout the mid to late 20th Century. A native Sicilian sits astride a mule, with woven-rush panniers carrying flowers or fruits. The backdrop consists of an avenue of trees and with a carriage seen from behind, travelling in the opposite direction, into the distance. This is an early, confident and striking composition, very much in the style of 1950's British post-war painting; a time when the influence of Picasso was keenly felt internationally. 100% authentic and original, this painting represents a rare and early example of Barlow's work, benefitting from especially strong provenance. Provenance: This painting has a particularly interesting provenance. There is an old label verso detailing it's inclusion in an exhibition at the Christopher Hull Gallery, Fulham Road, London. It's is noted as being 'FFA 47, Exhibition No. 1' and is credited as being from the collection of Dr. John Eskell. The Barlow-Berger-Eskell link: John Berger (1926 - 2017) was a novelist, essayist, art critic, painter, campaigner and broadcaster of international significance and renown. Yvonne Barlow and Berger met when they were in their teenage years, entering into a relationship and remaining in contact for life. In 1955 Berger lived in the Forest of De … [Click Below for Full Description]

BOUCHER (Lucien).
Paris, Perceval, [1952].
