1952. Please Read Description Below. Extremely Rare Autographed THE COMING OF THE SAUCERS 1st Edition Hardcover Book Signed by Pilot and Author Kenneth Arnold Letter with Envelope mailed by Author Ray Palmer Original 1952 Newspaper Clippings of the Flying Saucer Talks Up for sale is a real rarity, a signed first edition "The Coming Of The Saucers!" It is a historic accounting, perhaps the first major publication that records UFO sightings and is duly significant as the Flying Saucer sighting happened two weeks before the Roswell crash. It was signed by the pilot and author Kenneth Arnold, who is the eyewitness of the event and coined the phrase "Flying Saucers." This is even more exciting because it came with a Letter and personalized Envelope mailed by the famous author Raymond Palmer! This also includes two 1952 newspaper clippings denoting the talk on the Flying Saucers! Below are links to Wikipedia descriptions of the two authors: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Arnold Kenneth Albert Arnold (March 29, 1915 - January 16, 1984) was an American aviator and businessman. He is best known for making what is generally considered the first widely reported modern unidentified flying object sighting in the United States, after claiming to have seen nine unusual objects flying in tandem near Mount Rainier, Washington on June 24, 1947 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_A._Palmer Raymond Arthur Palmer (August 1, 1910 - August 15, 1977) was an American author and editor, best known as editor of Amazing Strories from 1938 through 1949, when he left publisher Ziff-Davis to publish and edit Fa … [Click Below for Full Description]

Kiev: Izdatel'stvo Akademii Arkhitektury Ukrains'koi SSR, 1952. Oblong quarto (23 × 30 cm). Original green card boards, embossed title to front board; 108 pp. and [10] leaves of plates, as well as numerous illustrations from photographs and drawings in the text, some in color. Boards lightly discolored and scuffed to corners; else about very good. First edition, published by the Institute of Urban Planning of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture, of this work on decorative gardening. The book is divided into chapters on the various classifications of greenery used in large-scale outdoors decorative floral arrangements; the basic principles of such arrangements; building and tending to flower gardens; the care of lawn sites; and an introductions to the various types of flowers used for these purposes. While also intended for smaller towns and collective farming communities, such designs were primarily used to decorate and "make green" the vast boulevards, settlements, and mass housing complexes springing up around Soviet cities after World War II. Perhaps most interestingly is the overt integration of decorative gardening into the late Stalinist totalitarian propaganda state. As the preface states, "Aptly chosen combinations of floriculture crops develop the people's artistic taste, and the use of flowers to compose portraits, slogans, and emblems serve as another means of monumental propaganda" (p. 3). The album presents photographs and drawings of floral designs in Kiev and other towns in Soviet Ukraine, as well as designs recommended by members of the Academy of Archite … [Click Below for Full Description]

Weil, James L
1952-2003. First editions. Excellent condition throughout, many in specially made boxes.. 68 volumes, varying formats and bindings James L. Weil (1929-2006) was best known as a small-press publisher of poetry. Principally under his Elizabeth Press imprint, and frequently in collaboration with the great Italian printing family of Mardersteigs, he issued exquisite small editions and championed the of the work of a significant stable of modern poets including William Bronk, Cid Corman, Larry Eigner, Theodore Enslin, Felix Setafanile, and others. Weil has long been associated with a literary aesthetic of elegant, philosophical, minimalism and a physical aesthetic associated with the fine typography of the Mardersteig's Officina Bodoni and Stamperia Valdonega, and the exacting graphics of artists such as Eugene Canadé and Jacques Hnizdovsky. Throughout his life, Weil also wrote poetry of his own. We are pleased to offer this collection of Weil's own copies of his own books. The collection is virtually comprehensive. It includes his books, broadsides, and keepsakes. Bound books are present in variant bindings as well as in copies specially bound for Weil, and press-inscribed for him. PEYAMI SAFA, (Turkish author), (1899-1961).
XVth International Congress of Sociology, Istanbul, 1952. Original autograph manuscript document signed 'Peyami Safa'. Oblong: 15x23 cm. In French. 1 p. It's resume of a paper written for the "XVeme Congress International de Sociologie, Istanbul, 11-17 Septembre 1952" related to 'Ibn-Khaldoun' and 'Auguste Comte'. Safa was a Turkish journalist, columnist and novelist. He was born in 1899 to writer and poet Ismail Safa (1867-1901) in Istanbul, Ottoman Empire. While he was only two years old, his father died in exile in Sivas. During his youth years until the age of seventeen, he lived in psychic and physical depression due a bone sickness he suffered from at the age of eight or nine. He rejected his doctors' advice to amputate his arm. Safa described his experiences in hospitals in his novel Dokuzuncu Hariciye Kogusu, which was filmed in 1967. In 1911, Peyami Safa had to give up his education at Vefa High School, and began working in a printing house and later in the Ministry of Post. He taught himself French, and in 1918 together with his elder brother began publishing a newspaper. In later years, he published three literary periodicals. He also wrote in various newspapers sometimes as a columnist, and sometimes as a novelist. Most of his novels were created before 1940. In these novels, he stressed on the west-east conflict in the Turkish society during the early years of the Turkish Republic. His novel Dokuzuncu Hariciye Kogusu gained much interest. In 1931, he wrote his only historical novel about Attila the Hun. Besides these novels, he wrote many serial stories and nov … [Click Below for Full Description]

Ernest Hemingway
London: Jonathan Cape, 1952. The Old Man and the Sea, Ernest Hemingway First UK edition, second impression Inscribed by Hemingway on the title page From the collection of Miguel Ángel Quevedo, publisher and editor of the long-running Cuban magazine Bohemia, of which the book bears its archival stamp to the dedication page. In 1951 Quevado approached Hemingway and offered to pay him $5,000 to run the full novel in Bohemia, as would be done in LIFE magazine (they had had paid $30,000). Hemingway said he would do it for no fee under two conditions. The first was that the translation should be dedicated to the novelist Lino Novas Calvo and the second was that the magazine would donate $1,000 to a leper colony. Quevado agreed, and The Old Man and the Sea ran in full in the March 15, 1953 issue of Bohemia, making it the first Spanish language appearance of Hemingway's Pulitzer Prize winning novel. London: Jonathan Cape, 1952. Bound in publisher's light blue cloth with red embossing to front and spine. Wraparound dust jacket illustration by Hans Tisdall. A near fine copy. Binding is tight and sturdy, light sunning along top edge of boards with minimal wear. The unclipped dust jacket is in very good condition, remaining bright and vibrant. Light shelfwear present with rubbing along the spine and panel joints. Closed tear at the spine crown, with a tape reinforcement to verso. Ernest Hemingway
Jonathan Cape, 1952. The Old Man and the Sea, Ernest Hemingway. First UK edition, second impression. Inscribed by Hemingway on the title page. Light shelfwear present with rubbing along the spine and panel joints. Closed tear at the spine crown, with a tape reinforcement to verso. A very attractive inscribed copy of Hemingway's celebrated novel, winner of the 1953 Pulitzer Prize for fiction and cited by the Nobel committee as a contributing factor in their awarding the Nobel Prize to H … [Click Below for Full Description]
