Introduction d'André Citroën, l'organisateur du raïd.

S.n, 1924. S.n., S.l. Circa 1924, Cadre : 31,5x37cm ; dessin : 18,5x22,5cm, une feuille sous marie - louise encadrée. S.n., S.l. Circa 1924, Cadre : 31,5x37cm ; dessin : 18,5x22,5cm, une feuille sous marie - louise encadrée. - Original drawing in ink and gouache, recorded in golden frame and mat is signed in the lower right of the sheet. Louis Anquetin, Étrépagny born in 1861 and died in Paris in 1932, is an important French painter. He began his career with avant - garde artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Henri de Toulouse - Lautrec. With Emile Bernard, he is the inventor of Cloisonnisme. From 1884 to 1893 Louis Anquetin continues to explore the new possibilities introduced by the release of Impressionism in French painting. From 1893, following a long confrontation with the "old masters", he adopts a bias that will put the painting on the sidelines of the general movement of the art, and will take away from his friends. Dazzled by Baroque art and creative force, he thinks as his childhood friends are engaged in a path that will lead to the death of painting. He believes in a "perfect painting" embodied in the re - remembering the lessons Michelangelo and Rubens among others. His work becomes more classic, it advocates a return to the trade, proposing to reflect on the a priori conditions of any possible form of art while respecting the rules of perspective and anatomy, as practiced by the masters the sixteenth and seventeenth siècle.Ne leaving only a few works that can be described as monumental, Anquetin proves prolific for his many studies and sketches, who considered that the design was "a very powerful means of expression," the mandatory basis for all plastiques.En arts voluntarily working backward of his time, Louis Anquetin made possible the existence of an original modern figuration. By his stubbornness and his passion for painting, he has indeed prevented is completely blocked the path of the great Western tradition. One can admire his works in many prestigious museums such as the Musée d'Orsay and the Louvre in Paris, San Francisco and Detroit, Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the National Gallery and the Tate London, etc. - - - Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate. Contact us for any information!

Elektra: tragöödia ühes vaatuses [a tragedy in one act].

Tallinn: Teatrikirjastus Tavet Mutsu 1924 - Octavo (19 x 11.5 cm). Original pictorial paper-covered boards, with a design by Peet Aren and executed by the studio of Ed. Taska; 103 pp. Boards lightly scuffed; small stain to lower front board; upper spine torn; internally very good. First Estonian edition of Hofmannsthal's 1903 psychological drama based on Sophocles, translated by Marie Under, the Estonian poet and organizer of the modernist Siuru group. With numerous photographs of the play's performance in Tallinn, showing the striking set design, taken by the well-known photographer Parikas. The cover features a strong design by Peet Aren (1889-1970), a prominent member of the Tartu school of visual arts in the 1920s, whose prolific work as a graphic designer and painter was influenced by German Expressionism and Constructivism. The present design combines elements of both, alluding both to the play's Greek setting and to modernity, through a dynamic arrangement of intersecting flashes of lightning or electricity. Boards printed in black, green and gold by the studio of Eduard Taska, the famous Estonian bookbinder and leatherworker. Not in KVK, OCLC. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

The Kelmscott Press and William Morris Master-craftsman.

Macmillan 1924 - FIRST EDITION, portrait frontispiece with tissue-guard, 16 plates, pp. ix+, 177, [2, ads], 8vo, original quarter beige cloth with blue boards, backstrip darkened with printed label a little dry and flaked, wear to corners, untrimmed, small bookseller ticket at foot of rear pastedown and initial stamp at head of facing free endpaper, good. With an interesting one-page ALs from Sparling, headed 'Kelmscott, 4.9.88' to a 'Mr Watts' - the nature of the content suggests that this was Theodore Watts-Dunton (the latter part of his name only added in 1897). Sparling describes his whereabouts for the coming weeks and, having the advice of Mrs Morris that 'you are gone into the country for a few days', states that 'if you return in time and your engagements happen to leave you free for a few hours [.] I should be glad to be allowed to come along for a chat'; he ends by expressing the desire of May Morris (to whom Sparling was then engaged, and married in 1890) 'to be very kindly remembered'. The attribution of the recipient seems sound when one considers that Morris had not long before been labouring on behalf of his 'future son-in-law Sparling' to secure just such a meeting ('to talk about his chances') - see Letter to Watts of December 16, 1886. An eminent critic, and later a poet, Watts-Dunton is also notable for his friendships with Rossetti and Swinburne - but it is in the former capacity that he is being pressed here.

Serse heitere Oper in 3 Akten. fuer die duetsche Buehne bearbeitet von O[skar] Hagen Klavierauszug.[Piano-vocal score]

[The Author], Göttingen 1924 - Folio. Half dark brown cloth with patterned paper boards, dark pink endpapers. 1f. (title with limitation statement), iv (overture), 78 pp. With Hagen's lengthy autograph dedication in black ink to Philip La Follette, governor of Wisconsin, and his wife, to front free endpaper, dated Madison, February 6, 1931. Hagen presents the 5th of only 31 copies, which he had handmade for the first revival of Handel's Serse since 1738."This is 'home-made' from A to Z. I unearthed the music, wrote a new libretto, adapted and orchestrated the score, arranged the vocal score and having no means for its publication wrote with my own hand every staff, every clef, every note and every word on the Lithographic plate; I inked the negative on my own desk and printed everypage on paper, which a local newspaper at Göttingen kindly presented to me. The 31 copies - there are no more in existence - printed on my own little press, made possible the first performance since 1738 of this truly immortal opera of George Frederick Händel at Göttingen on the 5th of July 1924. On that occasion this copy was used by one of the singers, of which fact the book still bears evidence. Trusting that the "Home-make" of this article will make up for its having been used on a previous memorable occasion, I dedicate this copy, No 5, to our beloved Governor, and Mrs Phil. LaFollette as a token of friendship. "As Hagen indicates, some contemporary annotations, underlining, and performance marks in pencil and red crayon throughout. "Dieser Klavierauszug is für den Gebrach der Göttinger Händelfestspiele von mir ausgearbeitet und mit eigener Hand geschrieben und in 31 Exemplaren gedruckt worden. Jede mißbräuchliche Benutzung desselben ist verboten. Gottingen im März 1924 Oskar Hagen" printed with facsimile signature to lower margin of title.Rather browned and somewhat brittle; some edges frayed with minor loss; occasional tears with tape repairs, affecting two measures of music. Limited to 31 copies, this number 5. Very scarce. Not in Worldcat.Serse was first performed at the King's Theatre in London on April 15, 1738. Thanks in no small part to Hagen's successful revival, in 1924, Serse has become Handel's most popular opera after Giulio Cesare."The German ?Handel Renaissance'; of the 1920s and 30s initiated a more intensive phase in the Baroque opera revival. Oskar Hagen, an art historian at the University of Göttingen, led the movement in 1920 with the first modern staging of Rodelinda; it elicited an unprecedented response in the nationalistically charged atmosphere of postwar Germany. A rash of Handel productions ensued, ranging in style from expressionist to quasi-Baroque, and in scale from modest academic stagings to lavish outdoor spectacles with massed dancers and amplified music. Hagen';s heavily abridged and rearranged editions were adopted by Werner Josten at Smith College in Massachusetts, where a series of Handel and Monteverdi productions took place in the late 1920s and early 30s." Harry Haskell in Grove Music Online.Hagen (1888-1957) studied music and music composition under Carl Schuricht and in Berlin at the Königliche Hochschule für Musik under Engelbert Humperdinck. He also pursued art history at the Universities of Berlin and Munich before receiving his doctorate from the University of Halle in 1914 under Wilhelm Waetzoldt (q.v.). Specializing in German Renaissance art, he became a privatdozent in 1918, rising to associate professor of art history department at the University in Göttingen. At Göttingen he revived an interest in performing the operas of George Frederick Handel, the first in Germany, beginning in 1920. Hagen directed the Göttingen Handel Festival until his departure to the United States. He visited the United States in 1924 as the Carl Schurz Visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The following year he accepted a full-time position at the University, where he founded an art history department and later the University's a [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Serse heitere Oper in 3 Akten... fuer die duetsche Buehne bearbeitet von O[skar] Hagen Klavierauszug.[Piano-vocal score]

Göttingen: [The Author], 1924. Limited to 31 copies, this number 5. Very scarce. Not in Worldcat. Serse was first performed at the King's Theatre in London on April 15, 1738. Thanks in no small part to Hagen's successful revival, in 1924, Serse has become Handel's most popular opera after Giulio Cesare. "The German ?Handel Renaissance'; of the 1920s and 30s initiated a more intensive phase in the Baroque opera revival. Hagen';s heavily abridged and rearranged editions were adopted by Werner Josten at Smith College in Massachusetts, where a series of Handel and Monteverdi productions took place in the late 1920s and early 30s." Harry Haskell in Grove Music Online. Hagen (1888-1957) studied music and music composition under Carl Schuricht and in Berlin at the Königliche Hochschule für Musik under Engelbert Humperdinck. He also pursued art history at the Universities of Berlin and Munich before receiving his doctorate from the University of Halle in 1914 under Wilhelm Waetzoldt (q.v.)... Specializing in German Renaissance art, he became a privatdozent in 1918, rising to associate professor of art history department at the University in Göttingen. At Göttingen he revived an interest in performing the operas of George Frederick Handel, the first in Germany, beginning in 1920. Hagen directed the Göttingen Handel Festival until his departure to the United States... He visited the United States in 1924 as the Carl Schurz Visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The following year he accepted a full-time position at the University, where he founded an art history department and later the University's art collection. Hagen served as the Department's director for twenty-three years... In 1944, he returned to music and music composition, writing several works. His pieces were given some of their first performances in post-war Germany beginning in 1945." Dictionary of Art Historians online. Hagen was the father of the renowned actress Uta Hagen (1919-2004). Philip La Follette (1897-1965) served three terms as the Governor of Wisconsin and helped create the Wisconsin Progressive Party. A rare document offering an interesting glimpse into the early years of the "Handel Renaissance.". Folio. Half dark brown cloth with patterned paper boards, dark pink endpapers. 1f. (title with limitation statement), iv (overture), 78 pp. With Hagen's lengthy autograph dedication in black ink to Philip La Follette, governor of Wisconsin, and his wife, to front free endpaper, dated Madison, February 6, 1931. Hagen presents the 5th of only 31 copies, which he had handmade for the first revival of Handel's Serse since 1738. "This is 'home-made' from A to Z. LaFollette as a token of friendship... " As Hagen indicates, some contemporary annotations, underlining, and performance marks in pencil and red crayon throughout. "Dieser Klavierauszug is für den Gebrach der Göttinger Händelfestspiele von mir ausgearbeitet und mit eigener Hand geschrieben und in 31 Exemplaren gedruckt worden. Jede mißbräuchliche Benutzung desselben ist verboten. Gottingen im März 1924 Oskar Hagen" printed with facsimile signature to lower margin of title. Rather browned and somewhat brittle; some edges frayed with minor loss; occasional tears with tape repairs, affecting two measures of music.

He also made a substantial contribution to the mélodie, composing songs throughout his life." Richard Langham Smith in Grove Music Online.

London: Methuen & Co. Ltd., , 1924?8. When We Were Very Young; Winnie-the-Pooh; Now We Are Six; The House at Pooh Corner. 4 works, octavo (185 x 118 mm). Bound in blue, green, red, and pink calf by Bayntun in imitation of the original cloth bindings, decorative gilt spines, top edges gilt, richly gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers. Illustrated throughout by E. H. Shepard. Joints rubbed or partially split but all sound. A very attractive set. First editions, first impressions, of these timeless classics of children's literature; rarely have author and artist been so perfectly matched. What is sometimes overlooked is Shepard's "use of the open page, and [the way in which] he often twines the pictures round the verses, quite a departure from the usual illustrative procedure of the time whereby the text and framed illustration were kept strictly apart" (Whalley & Chester, A History of Children's Book Illustration, pp. 178-79).
