Agatha Christie
John Lane. Agatha Christie - The Murder On The Links - First UK Edition 1923 A first edition, first printing published by John Lane in 1923. A very good copy with a little splitting internally to the pages. Some fading to the corners and to the spine tips. A small patch of fading to the the spine. A little spotting to the page edges. This is a very rare book. Identical in every way to the first edition of the same year. Bound in bright orange boards with the correct adverts at the back of the book. Usually the missing book in many Christie collections. ___________________________________________ JOHN ATKINSON BOOKS is a full-time professional bookseller in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. HERMANN HESSE
S. Fischer Verlag. Berlin. SEE PICS THAT FORM PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. SIDDHARTHA by Hermann Hesse - 1st/early 1923 German - S. Fischer Verlag Published by S. Fischer Verlag, Berlin 1923 Early 1923 printing (just one year after the 1st printing), however, the green dye atop the book would indicate a first edition thus. I have not found another following this description on the internet.THIS BOOK CERTAINLY MERITS FURTHER RESEARCH! German: 'siebente bis zehnte auflage alle rechte besonders das der ubersetzung vorbelhalten' translates: 'seventh to tenth edition all rights reserved, especially that of the translation' Straight and tight, book appears unread although pages are slightly 'browned' There is no underlining or writing in the book. Original cloth bookmark. The top edge of the book is coloured with a green dye. Some marks to front cover and back (see pics) Pencil inscription on front endpaper. The spine of the book has tape over it, which continues over the front and back covers (see pics). It looks as if the original spine may be (albeit in part) in tact underneath but I do not want to force it just in case. That would be a task for a professional book binder! Not an ex-library, not a book-club, no stamps, no stickers. some discoloring of paper as mentioned above. All images have been taken without flash on the camera so that all or any imperfections may be shown. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A GERMAN LANGUAGE BOOK. Oberth, Hermann
R. Oldenbourg, Munich & Berlin, 1923. Oberth, Hermann (1894-1989). Die Rakete zu den Planetenräumen. 8vo. 92pp. 3 folding lithographed plates. Munich & Berlin: R. Oldenbourg, 1923. 254 x 175 mm. Original wrappers, uncut, wrappers a little worn & chipped; boxed. Occasional minor foxing, but very good. First Edition of Oberth's thesis on the rocket in interplanetary space, in which he set out to prove four propositions: (1) that the technology of the time permitted the building of machines capable of rising above the earth's atmosphere; (2) that these machines could attain velocities sufficient to prevent their falling back to earth, or even to escape the earth's gravitational pull; (3) that such machines could be built to carry human beings; and (4) that under certain conditions, their manufacture might be profitable. Oberth demonstrated that a rocket can operate in a vacuum and that it can surpass the velocity of its own exhaust; he also pointed out the superiority of liquid fuels in producing maximum exhaust velocity. He described in detail the designs of a prototypical instrument-carrying rocket and a theoretical space-ship, and developed the first sketchy model of a space station. Oberth's work was anticipated by that of Goddard and of Tsiolkovsky; however, their work went largely unheralded, while Oberth's was greeted enthusiastically in Germany by a band of devotees that eventually became the Verein für Raumschiffahrt (Society for Space Travel). "This partly explains why, when war came in 1939, Germany could so quickly organize an efficient and competent [rocketry] res … [Click Below for Full Description]

DIXON, MAYNARD
(San Francisco: Printed by Edwin & Robert Grabhorn and James McDonald), 1923, 1923. First edition, one of 250 copies. Grabhorn Press Bibliography 52. Edges a little worn; very good copy.. 4to, batik paper boards, leather spine label, gilt lettering, untrimmed. Frontis and six illustrations by Dixon. The only book by artist Maynard Dixon (1875-1946) published in his lifetime, a fine collaborative effort with the Grabhorn Press that combines his iconic art set in the West with his poetry about the West. The batik cloth and brown leather spine label is a latter issue binding by the Grabhorns, who were known to leave books in sheets and bind them as demand warranted - and often in a style that depended on materials at hand, which invariably differed from the earlier bindings, as is the case here.

Halbleinenband; Der "Fasciculus medicinae" ist eine Sammlung medizinischer Traktate, die der deutsche Arzt Johannes von Ketham (wahrscheinlich von "Kirchheim" in Schwaben) im 15.
