Berlin: Sitzungsberichte der Preussischen Akademie der, 1923. First Thus. Soft cover. Einstein, Albert (1879-1955). Zur affinen Feldtheorie. Offprint from Sitzungsberichten der Preussischen Akademie der Wissenschaften 1923. XVIII. 8vo.,4, [137-140] First edition. Orange wrappers. A fine fresh copy in the rare off-print form marked with an asterisk by Weil, denoting a major paper ("Sonderabdruck") & deemed of sufficient interest that a translation was published in Nature Magazine. "Einstein's attempts to formulate a unified field theory [the theoretical framework to account for the fundamental forces of nature.] stemmed from his dissatisfaction with the general relativity theory, which did not adequately incorporate the electromagnetic field into the geometry of space-time". Einstein's first investigation of Weyl's ideas, published in the present paper which Weyl had begun working on in 1918. Weyl was investigating the possibility of constructing a unified field theory preserving the dimensionality of space-time while formally altering its geometry, making it a special case of the class known as affine geometries*. However Einstein later rejected Weyl's theory. "Weil No. 132*; Schilpp--Shields No. 171; Alicke No.113; Norman Library 698; Boni 141. *Affine Geometry is not concerned with the notions of circle, angle and distance. It's a known dictum that in Affine Geometry all triangles are the same. In this context, the word affine was first used by Euler (affinis). In modern parlance, Affine Geometry is a study of properties of geometric objects that remain invariant under af … [Click Below for Full Description]

Fischer Verlag, Berlin 1923 Early 1923 printing (just one year after the 1st printing), however, the green dye atop the book would indicate a first edition thus. I have not found another following this description on the internet.THIS BOOK CERTAINLY MERITS FURTHER RESEARCH! German: 'siebente bis zehnte auflage alle rechte besonders das der ubersetzung vorbelhalten' translates: 'seventh to tenth edition all rights reserved, especially that of the translation' Straight and tight, book appears unread although pages are slightly 'browned' There is no underlining or writing in the book. Original cloth bookmark. The top edge of the book is coloured with a green dye. Some marks to front cover and back (see pics) Pencil inscription on front endpaper. The spine of the book has tape over it, which continues over the front and back covers (see pics). New York Yankees).
New York: Harry M. Stevens, 1923. Printed wrappers. 9 1/4 by 11 inches. 16pp. Lacking front and rear covers. This is an original (not facsimile) program for the first game played at Yankee Stadium. Its title page reads: "Official Souvenir Program. Opening Day. Yankee Stadium. April 18, 1923". The Yankees had played at the Polo Grounds since 1913 but when Babe Ruth joined the team in 1920 Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert commissioned Yankee Stadium to be built. This first game was between the Yankees and Red Sox. The program features a photograph of the new stadium, short bios of Edward Grant Barrow, Miller J. Huggins, Jacob Ruppert and Col. T. L. Huston; a history of American League baseball in New York; rosters for both teams (not filled out); a nice full page photo of the Yankees, a description of the new stadium and directions for getting there. In terms of condition this is a very worn copy with some chipping and tape reinforcement to the spine and some soiling and edge-tears to the first and last page. The photo on the first page has a tape mark in the upper right corner. As mentioned previously the original front and rear covers are lacking on this copy but all 16 inside pages are present. The pages are soiled and have some edge tears and each page has tape reinforcement to the inside gutter. A scarce survival of this sought after baseball rarity. Adams, B. M. G-., [Bride Scratton].
Paris: Three Mountains Press, 1923. Adams, B. M. G-., [Bride Scratton]. ENGLAND. Large 4to Victorian wallpaper over boards, paper cover label. Paris: Three Mountains Press, 1923. Copy 136 of 150 copies printed on Rives hand-made paper with the Three Mountains Press watermark. Along with Hemingway's in our time this is the rarest of the books in Ezra Pound's Inquest series, intended to be an investigation of the state of English prose after James Joyce's Ulysses. As usual, the fragile spine was completely worn away and professionally rebacked. In Canto 78 of the Pisan Cantos, Pound refers to Scratton as Thiy in his recollection of a visit they made to Verona with T.S. Eliot, which was so important in the creation of the Maletesta Cantos. Scratton apparently met Pound at a party given by W.B. Yeats and the pair allegedly had an intimate relationship for many years. Pound was named as a co-respondent when her husband sued for divorce. This copy has the Shakespeare & Co. sticker on the back pastedown. Much less edgewear than usual to the extremely fragile wall-paper. Very scarce indeed, in this condition. Jones, Bobby (Robert Tyre Jones, Jr.)
1923. Black and white photograph of Bobby Jones swinging a wood on the fairway. Boldly inscribed by Jones in his earlier signature, "For Art With best wishes Robert T. Jones, Jr." Double matted and framed. The entire piece measures 16.25 inches by 18.25 inches. Robert T. Jones was an American golfer who was one of the most influential figures in the history of the sport. Jones founded and helped design the Augusta National Golf Club, and co-founded the Masters Tournament. The innovations that he introduced at the Masters have been copied by virtually every professional golf tournament in the world. Jones was the most successful amateur golfer ever to compete at a national and international level. During his peak from 1923 to 1930, he dominated top-level amateur competition, and competed very successfully against the world's best professional golfers. Jones often beat stars such as Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen, the era's top pros. Jones earned his living mainly as a lawyer, and competed in golf only as an amateur, primarily on a part-time basis, and chose to retire from competition at age 28, though he earned significant money from golf after that, as an instructor and equipment designer. Explaining his decision to retire, Jones said, "It [championship golf] is something like a cage. First you are expected to get into it and then you are expected to stay there. But of course, nobody can stay there." Jones is most famous for his unique "Grand Slam," consisting of his victory in all four major golf tournaments of his era (the open and amateur championships in both the U.S. & … [Click Below for Full Description]

Spine gently rolled, extremities rubbed and lightly bumped, minor spotting to edges. A very good copy indeed. First edition, first impression. Wild had been with Scott on the Discovery, was with Mawson in 1911-14, "and was a close friend of Shackleton on both the Nimrod expedition of 1907-09 and second-in-command on the Transantarctic Expedition of 1917-17... Wild joined Shackleton on his final voyage to the Antarctic in 1921-23 but the explorer's death sapped Wild's desire to continue" (Howgego). This is a "handsome publication" reproducing "the last photographs of Shackleton to be taken" (Taurus). Wild emigrated to South Africa, and drifted into bankruptcy and alcoholism. He died destitute in Johannesburg in 1939.

Jacques Chardonne
1923. The rare publisher's Uncorrected Book Proof, preceding the first printing of the first edition. This is a very unusual survival of the Uncorrected Proof of a very scarce book - only three copies are known to exist in the copyright libraries, and none appears to have been offered for sale in recent times. Original wraps. In worn condition, with rear cover missing and front cover detached, and about 5% loss to the final printed page. Some discoloration, creasing, wear and tear to spine and covers(please see pictures). Binding sound and square. Internally clean. Light browning to prelims and page edges. A good honest worn example of this rare item. This is George Locke's copy and bears his handwritten note that the author is Jacques Chardonne - the Proof bears no author's name. Provenance: We have recently acquired a large collection of the stock of the celebrated book dealer and bibliographer George Locke (1936-2019), of Ferret Fantasy.
