        Northanger Abbey.

London: J. M. Dent & Co.; E. P. Dutton & Co., New York, , 1907. With twenty-four coloured illustrations by C. E. Brock. Octavo. Original gilt decorative vellum, top edge gilt, others untrimmed, pictorial endpapers. With 24 colour plates by C. E. Brock. Some light marks to vellum; an excellent, bright copy. First Brock edition, uncommon in the original vellum binding. C. E. Brock (1870?1938) first appeared as an illustrator of Jane Austen within Macmillan's 1895?7 series (with introductions by Austin Dobson), Brock illustrating only Pride and Prejudice, and Hugh Thomson illustrating the other 5 titles. This series was only illustrated in black and white, which better suited Thomson's skilful use of line. A decade later, J. M. Dent, realising Brock's potential as a colourist, commissioned him to redo the Pride and Prejudice suite, this time in colour, and to create colour illustrations for the other five Austen titles. The colourful costumes and interior decor depicted in these illustrations are reputedly accurate to the Regency period, for Charles Brock and his brother Henry collected antique furniture and clothing so that their friends and relations could model for the artists in their Cambridge studio.

Eigenh. Brief mit U. ("Heinrich Mann"). München, 19. I. 1907.

1907. 2 SS. auf Doppelblatt. 4to. "Sehr geehrter Herr, Frau v.

Wonder Map of the Wonder Mining District.Map title: Revised Map of U.S. Patent & Location Surveys in Wonder Mining District Churchill County Nevada.

      D. H. Blossom. Wonder, Nevada. 1907. - Color folding map attached to card stock covers, 7 1/2 x 4 inches unfolding to 30 x 32 1/2 inches, depicting the Wonder Mining District [Nevada]. There are several breaks in the folds of the fragile paper, while a dogleg tear at the top of the map (archival tape repair) measures 2 x 2 1/2 inches. A congruent tear in the top margin measures two inches. The map shows the modest Wonder townsite situated in a vast landscape of mining claims, depicted in various colors. The Index on the map documents well over 100 claims. Wonder flourished between 1906 and 1919, with a 1907 population estimated at 1200 persons. The sum of $6,350,000 is attached to the Wonder District's recorded production in gold and silver. Web resources regarding Wonder and its history can be had at "Nevada Mining and You," a pdf created by the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology. (The pdf provides a photo of the Wonder townsite circa 1910); also, the Wikipedia entry "Wonder, Nevada" provides useful details regarding the mining town. See also Hugh Shamberger's "The Story of Wonder, Churchill County, Nevada," (Nevada Historical Press, 1974). There is only one listing for Blossom's map on WorldCat. This scarce map, of considerable interest with regard to Nevada mining history, is in very good clean condition, with issues noted.

The Curse of the Romanovs; A Study Of The Lives And Reigns of Two Tsars Paul I And Alexander I Of Russia: 1754-1825

25, 1907 Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. First edition.. A first edition of thisportrait of two reigns under the Romanov Tsars, by the fiercely anti-Romanov Rappoport, from the collection of Count Sangorski. Published in 1907, before the Russian Revolution, the work nevertheless anticipates it. As the author writes in his preface: The eyes of Europe are directed towards Russia, the European China, where the scion of the house of Romanov is seated on his tottering throne, frightened at the phantom of an approaching revolution. A fascinating tract as much for the contemporarysentiment and viewpoint it represents as for its historical contents. Count R. L Sangorski was a prominent art collector famous for contributing to the John Marriot collection of Chinese Art. These works are listed on a receipt for binding issued to him in the 1980s, found with the sale of his collection. Bound in the 1980's after Asprey's acquisition of Zaehnsdorf bindery (1983), who merged it with their previous acquisition of Sangorski and Sutcliff. This binding is likely to be a Zaehnsdorf binding, under the name of Asprey. Illustrated with 22 plates and a frontspiece. Condition: In a full crushed morocco Asprey Binding, with gilt titles to the spine. Externally excellent, with just a little fading to the spine. Internally, with the occasional instance of light foxing here and there. Firmly bound. Overall: NEAR FINE.

The Forests and Forest Flora of The Colony of the Cape of Good Hope

Taylor & Henderson, Aberdeen, 1907. First Edition. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. Sim, Thomas R. 361 pages of text plus 160 pages of illustration plus folded map (complete). A sturdy, resolute, much owned and most inconsiderately stored copy. This is the book for which Sims is most noted. It is magisterial in size and scope. It's diligence is exceptional. The boards of this copy are much worn, marked and stained from storage. There is wear all about. The spine is elderly and worn but assured. The boards are secure and sure. Within, the contents have some foxing and mild aging. The folded map has some user creasing but is healthy and sure. The pages are tight, comfortable, benign, patient, clear, tidy, most competent. A book still to be savoured, used and owned. fk

        Through Eastern China]*.

137 silver gelatin photographs, green cloth covered album. 19.5 x 24.5cm. Most photographs were taken by the album's unnamed photographer/compiler as well as a number of images of Amoy marked "bought" and another captioned "taken by Watson". 8 photographs have been removed from the album. From the collection of Arthur Hacker, Hong Kong artist, author, historian and collector. This very interesting nicely captioned album records the compiler/photographer's travels in China between August 1907 and December 1908. Most photographs are neatly captioned in ink beneath. The owner of the album seems to have travelled north apparently with the purpose of visiting installations, but it is unclear as to what these installations were. The buildings and workers at the North Point Installation in Hong Kong, Swatow Installation and Tientsin Installation feature as well as views and group photographs and portraits in Kongmoon (6), Macao (5), Swatow (34), Amoy (10), Foochow (2), Soochow (2), Wusieh (10), the races in Shanghai (6), Si-Tai Lake (14), an execution (1), scenes along the Yangtze including Wuhu, Kiukiang and Hankow (12), Ming Tombs [at Nanjing] (7). Two cyanotypes of Chinese scenes unfortunately without captions complete the album. .
