Den Danske Comoedies Ligbegængelse, Med Taliæ Afskeeds Tale, Forestillet Til allersidste Slutning Af De Danske Acteurs Den 25 Februarii 1727.

Kiøbenhavn, 1746. Trykt udi Hans Kongel. Majests. og Universitæts-Bogtrykker, af Johan Jørgen Høpffner. 8vo. [16] s. Gennemgåend rent eksemplar indbundet i nyt helpergament i gammel stil, 1727.

A beautiful view of Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola, one of the best examples of a Renaissance residence, built for the Roman Farnese family . The plate is part of Illustri fatti farnesiani coloriti nel Real Palazzo di Caprarola dai fratelli Taddeo Federico e Ottaviano Zuccari by George Kaspar de Prenner, published in 1748. The unnumbered final five folded plates, drawn and engraved by Giuseppe Vasi, are plans and views of the Real palazzo di Caprarola. In 1530 Alessandro Farnese, who later became Pope Paul III, asked Antonio Sangallo the Younger to build a fortress in Caprarola. Sangallo designed an impressive pentagonal building, but works were suspended in 1534 when Alessandro Farnese was elected pope. The grandson of Pope Paul III, Cardinal Alessandro Farnese Jr came into possession of the property in Caprarola and in 1555 ordered the architect Jacopo Birozzi da Vignola, known as Vignola, to continue work on the building, creating a luxurious palace instead of the original fortress. Vignola carried out his task marvellously, succeeding in designing and building a prestigious palace on the existing large-scale foundations of a military structure, thus creating a harmonious construction which is looked on as his masterpiece. He succeeded in combining perfectly the beauty of the surrounding landscape with his architectural i

Stirpes novae, aut minus cognitae, quas descriptionibus et iconibus illustravit Paris, Philip-Dionysius Pieres, "1784"-"1785" [= 1785-1791]. 6 parts in 1 volume. 1mo (51 x 35.5 cm). With 91 engraved plates (2 double-page). All in contemporary or near-contemporary hand-colouring, protected by tissue guards. 19th-century green half sheepskin.

      - Cat. Redouteana 1; GFB, pp. 64-65; Johnston 555; Nissen, BBI 1190. First and only edition of a sumptuous botanical work and Redouté's first publication: of the 91 hand-coloured plates 54 are after drawings by the young Redouté, then not yet 25 years old. "The book is splendid in its spacious descriptions, its charming exotic plates, its implications for taxonomic history; and fascinating as an imposing piece of eighteenth-century bookmaking ." (Hunt). In Stirpes novae (New herbs), Charles L'Héritier de Brutelle (1746-1800) describes a great number of new taxa, many of which grew in his own garden, the gardens of his friends and in the Jardin du Roi. He had ample means and engaged the young botanical artist Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759-1840) to draw the majority of the plates. The two developed a close friendship and L'Héritier taught Redouté the basics of plant taxonomy and dissection. The friendship proved a determining factor in Redouté's career and enabled him to fully develop his extraordinary talents.Bookblock in good condition, with some light spotting. The binding badly worn, with the headbands and the boards damaged.

        Americae Mappa Generalis

Incisione in rame, bella coloritura coeva, ottime condizioni." This attractive map of the Americas is filled with detail throughout. There is no coastline shown above the peninsular California, leaving out the usual conjectures about the Northwest Passage. South America shows very developed river systems, with the La Plata River terminating in a fictional Lacus Xarayes. The extravagant title cartouche includes two erupting volcanoes, Native Americans (one who appears to be holding a shrunken head), birds and a pot of gold or silver. A strong sheet with original color and some toning with a small hole on the centerfold. The margins have some light stains and a chip,a nd there is a soft crease on the left side of the map.

Prijs: ?6.500,- (incl. lijst).

Goedeke IV, I, 611, 6; cf. PMM 258. First edition of the collected works of the greatest reformer of education since Comenius, Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746-1827), a Swiss by birth. His basic principle was that children should be educated, not trained like dogs. So the pupil came first, not the subject, and the "whole person" must be educated. The famous Humboldt introduced Pestalozzi's educational system into Germany and the next milestone in the history of education, Fröbel, started from Pestalozzi's views. Fröbel, the next great reformer, spent the years 1808 to 1810 tutoring three boys at Pestalozzi's Institute at Yverdun. The first volume contains a list of subscribers of about 50 pages, headed by the Czar of Russia, the Kings of Prussia, Bavaria and the Netherlands, and by the Queens of Würtemberg and Sweden. Apart from the title-pages of the collected edition, most works have also their own title-pages and all earlier prefaces are included as well.Very good uniform set, slightly foxed, especially the first volume, with some occasional stains. First volume recased, with new endpapers.

Amsterdam ijsbreker, winter scene - Van der Horst, Schenk.

John Nourse, London, 1746. First Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Size: 12mo (approx 4 x 7 ins). .. This rare book is, in some respects, more akin to the early bestiaries, containing for instance a mermaid and a unicorn. Preface states: "This book is calculated, not only for the Entertainment of Youth, but, likewise, for the Amusement of those, who prefer the innocent Pleasures of a rural Life".... [A Sotheby's sales record for 1995 states "Both Freeman and originally the British Library, have listed this work as containing 172 plates, according to the numbers on each plate. This system of numbering refers in fact to the relevant facing page of text. Comparing this copy with that in the British Library, it can be confirmed that a complete copy should have the engraved frontispiece depicting Adam with the Beasts and 155 plates. The British Library copy lacks plates 158/159 and text pages 155-158, now present in facsimile taken from this copy. This present copy lacks plates 12/13, present in facsimile taken from the British Library copy.]..... Our copy has all 155 plates plus engraved frontis of Adam with the beasts. Only defect of note is that some 3/4 plates of birds have been coloured by an amateur hand. Binding is contemporary full calf which has been rebacked, A rare copy !! Of the 14 listed on a copac search all bar 2 appear to be electronic.! Quantity Available: 1. Category: Natural History & Resources; England; 18th century; Animals & Birds. Inventory No: 15726..

Souci des jardins. Calendula officinalis. L. [From: Fleurs dessinées d'après nature,... Stipple engraving on unwatermarked wove paper (56 x 36.5 cm), printed in colour à la poupée and finished by hand, of a Calendula officinalis showing two branches with seven flowers and buds in various stages, signed "P.F. Le Grand sculp." In passepartout.

Van Boven & Segal, Gerard & Cornelis van Spaendonck, pp. 178-184, no. 13a; for the series: Blunt, pp. 175-176; Hunt 673 note; cf. An Oak Spring flora 58, 92 etc. Magnificent illustration of a Calendula officinalis, commonly known as a pot marigold, printed in colour and delicately finished by hand. This flowering plant is probably native to southern Europe, but also found further north in Europe and elsewhere in warm temperate regions. It is originally part of a series of flower prints by Gerard van Spaendonck, the only engraved work published during his lifetime, "entitled Fleurs dessinées d'après Nature, which contains twenty-four magnificent drawings, brilliantly interpreted in stipple by P.F. Le Grand and other engravers. These are probably the finest engravings of flowers ever made" (Blunt) and "they are among the most breath-taking series of plates in the [Hunt] library" (Hunt). The series was originally published in 6 parts with 4 plates and available printed in black, printed in colour, or (as in the present case) printed in colour and finished by hand.Gerard van Spaendonck (1746-1822) was a proponent of the Dutch school of floral painting. He singlehandedly transformed the genre of flower painting in France, where he managed to unite the realism of the Dutch school with the suave elegance of the French school. In 1780 he became Professeur de Peinture de Fleurs at the Jardin des Plantes. Among his many pupils was Pierre Joseph Redouté.A few minor spots and a couple minor restorations along the extremities, otherwise in very good condition.
