Eustache Lenoble (1643-1711), Baron Tenelière is well known for his political satires and other curious productions he has produced (most of his works are rare). --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.

As the same relates to every Country in general, but more particularly to the Territories of His Majesty of Great Britain, and his Neighbours of Holland, Zealand, and France.

London: for Robert Clavel, and Hen. Mortlock, 1691 - Octavo (166 × 106 mm), with imprimatur leaf and final adverts. Contemporary sprinkled sheep, double rule blind stamped border to covers, paper label. Spine faded and chipped at head, corners slightly worn, a little surface abrasion, still a very attractive copy. Engraved armorial bookplate to inside of front board, later small private library stamp to title verso. Acquisition note "Cost 5 pence at an auction Lond. July 1705" to front endpaper. Second edition, first published the previous year, of what is by title at least Petty's key work, posthumously published. After training as a doctor and being admitted to the College of Physicians, Petty worked for many years as an administrator in Ireland, and was a founding member of the Royal Society. He has gone down in history as the originator of statistical analysis under the name of political arithmetic. He established important themes and methods for classical economists, and his works provide abundant detail of the physical and human geography of seventeenth-century Ireland and England. The work was originally published with the date 1690 (the initial licence leaf is dated 7 November 1690). "Apart from dropping a comma in the fourth line in some copies and the change of date, the title-page is identical with that of [the edition of 1690] and is printed from the same setting of type. The imprimatur and the rest of the book have been reset line-by-line including the Errata, though some of them have been corrected." (Keynes) Goldsmiths' 2869; Keynes 35; Kress 1770; Wing P1933.

Title page has an engraving by Cornelius Claeszoon Duysend with a portrait of the Great Moghul. This is the second edition which was published in the same year as the first edition and with the same text but slightly reset resulting in 285 pages rather than the 299 of the first edition. The lovely binding is in fine condition and the contents have only very minor foxing. The book comes with a tan morocco slip case signed R Wallis, Binder.Joannes De Laet (1593-1649), a Flemish naturalist and geographer, was Director of the Dutch West Indies Company. De Laet's description of the Moghul empire was published by Elzevier as part of their "Res publicae" series. It used a variety of sources, including a number of English works and, in particular, Francisco Pelsaert's "Remonstrantie", a 1626 report to the VOC directors on the state of commerce in India. "Remonstrantie" is regarded as "the most detailed and interesting account of Moghul India written by a Dutch observer". It was, however, never published, so De Laet's work is "the earliest published source for Pelsaert's description of India". (Donald Lach and Edwin Van Kley: Asia in the Making of Europe)

        Calabria Citeriore ed Vlteriore

Napoli 1691 - Acquaforte e bulino, 1691. Planisfero Del Mondo Vecchio; C.1691 Coronelli Map of the Eastern Hemisphere

Vincenzo Coronelli, Venice - Map. Engraving with hand color. Sheet measures 19.5" x 26.25" This lovely map of the Eastern Hemisphere was issued by Vincenzo Coronelli in circa 1691. The map covers the continents of Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia in detail and includes the discoveries made by Abel Tasman in Australia. The map is cartographically based on Coronelli's large gores from 1688, which were themselves derived from the manuscript globes constructed for Louis XI in 1683. An early mapping of the coastline of Antarctica is also included. Dedication to Senator Andrea Marcello appear in the top left with his coat of arms in the top right. The lower corners include explanations. A series of concentric rings surround the map noting distance, eclipse, climate zones, and astronomical information. The 12 zodiac signs are noted on the outer edges of the circle. The map has wear along centerfold and verso repair and fill near the bottom with loss of a few letters in the south pole and margin fill. Plate cracks visible. Minor foxing. Unusual coloring. Vincenzo Coronelli (1650-1718) was a Franciscan priest and renowned mathematician and cartographer. He was appointed official Cosmographer to the Venetian Republic in 1685 and founded the world's earliest geographic society, L'Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti. He was known best for his globes, which he made for prominent rulers such as Louis XIV and the Duke of Parma. This map is an excellent example of his work.

Trajecti Ad Rhenum Ex Officina Francisci Halma, Academiae Typographi 1691 - Later leather binding with stamped design on front, five rolled bands on spine with gilt title in red square. Some wear on edges and corners , possible reinforcement of front hinge. Interior toning though not heavy. Ornate, armorial bookplate on front pastedown from the House of Abercairny. More modern bookplate on rear pastedown. Book is square but front hinge is suspicious. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 135, 240, 120 pages; This book is in Latin and I'm not sure of the translation. I think the book deals with the origins of laws but I'm unsure of "Pomponii." Few copies of this work are listed on-line. One that has been scanned was owned by John Adams. He dedicated Stratagems in War to Marcus Aurelius (161–180) and Verus (161–169), while they were engaged in the Parthian war (162–165), about 163 CE, at which time he was too old to accompany them in their campaigns.         Breviarium Theologicum

1691. POLMANO, Joanne. Breviarium Theologicum, Continens Definitiones, Descriptiones, & Explicationes Terminorum Theologicorum. Rouen: Richardum Lallemant, 1691. Thick 12mo, contemporary full mottled calf, front cover stamped with coat-of-arms of France in gilt, rebacked with elaborately gilt-decorated spine laid down, raised bands, red morocco spine label, marbled endpapers. $2800.Later edition of this French breviary in Latin, handsomely bound in contemporary calf-gilt with the Bourbon royal arms of Louis XV “le bien-aimé” tooled in gilt on the front cover. In the year 1744, while hastening from his conquests in Flanders during the war of the Austrian Succession to assist Alsace, Louis XV was felled by a malady at Metz which threatened to cut short his reign. According to the Abrégé Chronologique de l'Histoire de France, ""At the news of this, Paris, all in terror, seemed a city taken by storm: the churches resounded with supplications and groans; the prayers of priests and people were every moment interrupted by their sobs: and it was from an interest so dear and tender that this surname of Bien-aimé fashioned itself, a title higher still than all the rest which this great Prince has earned"" (Paris, 1775). Louis XV spent five days in October, 1744 recuperating from this illness in Strasbourg. Despite the resounding victory shortly thereafter at Fontenoy on 11 May 1745, Louis XV's reputation from then on was in decline. His philandering continued to grow after 1744, tarnishing his reputation among his subjects and undermining the myth of the ""well loved"" king assiduously cultivated by the crown. The reputation of the monarchy never recovered from the damage done to it by Louis XV, causing him apparently to utter the apochryphal words, ""Après moi le déluge."" The Breviarum is essentially a religious dictionary, supplying definitions and descriptions for theological terminology. First published in 1653. Text in Latin. Owner ink stamp on title page; early owner signature to title page and front flyleaf.Text clean and fine; light expert restoration to 18th-century French armorial binding.
