The Lettres is LACKING 6 LEAVES OF TEXT at the end, pages 163-174 (Xxx2-4 and Yyy1-3). There are a few mispaginations but the rest of the text is guaranteed complete. First published in 1599, this edition of 1643 is not recorded in James Edmund Harting, Bibliotheca Accipitraria, A Catalogue of Books Ancient & Modern relating to Falconry, pages 81-81; nor in Schwerdt, Hunting, Hawking and Shooting, Volume I, page 43, but they both record an edition of 1644 which collates the same as ours. There are copies of the 1643 edition held in National Library of Scotland and Bodleian Library, Oxford. Lord Lilford whose signature is on the front endpaper was a famous ornithologist (1833-1896). He kept a large collection of birds from around the world and was responsible for introducing the Little Owl to England in the 1880s.         Il Tirolo con li Vescouati di Trento e Brixen e la Citta Imperiale di Costanza

Rome Perfect condition. Map depicts Tirol, the southern part of Austria and the northern part of Italy with the lake of Garda. The cities of Lindau, Kempten, Kufstein, Innsbruck, Bludenz, Chur, Trient, Brixen, Riva, Garda and a cartouche with an eagle. Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola (1643 - 1695) Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola (1643 - 1695) was an important Italian cartographer and engraver active in 17th century Italy. Hewas born in Montorsello, near Vignola Italy to a well known italian family. After his studies of literature at the University of Bologna, Cantelli took a position as secretary to the Marquis Obizzi de Ferrara. Eventually Cantelli relocated to Venice where he developed an interest in cartography. In the company of a French ambassador he traveled to Paris where met the French cartographer Guillaume Sanson as well as his contemporaries Jacques-Andre Duval and Michel-Antoin Baudrand. It was most likely the influence of these innovative French cartographers that inspired Cantelli's careful and meticulous approach, in which he based his cartography .Back in Italy, Cantelli took service Count Rinieri Marescotti, with whom he traveled extensively throughout Italy, becoming in the process acquainted with the Italian publisher Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi. It is with Rossi that Cantelli began officially publishing his maps. The earliest maps to bear the Cantelli-Rossi imprint date to 1672 and detail the Holy Land, Persia, and the Ottoman Empire. Around 1680 the duo also began to publish the Mercurio Geografico, a large format atlas illustrating all parts of the world in a splendid Italian baroque detail defined by elaborate finely engraved cartouche work, high quality paper, and bold Roman lettering, and dark rich inks. Some have compared his style go that of Giovanni Antonio Magini, another Italian cartographer of the previous generation. Cantelli da Vignola in fact pioneered the Italian style of fine bold engraving that would eventually be embraced and expanded upon by Vincenzo Coronelli. Cantelli chose to work with the Due of Modena, in the service of whom he produced numerous maps and well as two large globes. He died in Modena in November of 1695., original colored, Copper print, 42 x 55.

Parchemin de l'époque, titre manuscrit au dos, liens. Edition Originale de cet ouvrage du théologien et philosophe Francisco de Lugo (1579-1652).       KVK/WorldCat (4 copies); cf. Harreld, "An education in commerce: ...", www.helsinki.fi/iehc2006/papers1/Harreld.pdf, p. 9 (1643 ed.); ICCU (1643, 1657, 1668, 1672 and later eds.). Rare third(?) edition of a handy little merchant's manual of international weights, measures and monetary values, aimed especially at Genoese and to some degree Venetian merchants, but providing information for trade with cities throughout Europe and even in Asia and Africa. We have located only four other copies of the present edition. Among the many cities and regions covered outside Europe are Crete, Constantinople, Aleppo, Tripoli, Tunesia, Persia and China. It gives exchange rates and information for understanding their weights and measures. With the lower outside corner of the first 2 leaves restored, slightly affecting the border and a few letters of the text, but otherwise in good condition, with the fore-edge margin of another leaf neatly torn off, not affecting the text, and slightly foxed throughout. A rare 17th-century manual of international weights, measures and currencies: a valuable tool for any history of international trade and commerce.
