Borgogni Gherardo
In Venezia Appresso Giovan Battista Ciotti 1602 16° Pagine 1 carta bianca + 16 carte non numerate + 255 + 2 carte bianche. Legatura ottocentesca in mezza pelle marrone. Titolo e fregi oro al dorso. Piatti marmorizzati. Alcune piccole fioriture sparse. Ottima copia. Cfr.Graesse I p.497 Brunet I p.418 Gamba p.88 N°41 BORGOGNI (Borgogna), Gherardo.

Esemplare ben conservato.

(corners a bit worn, interior used and spotted; tear in one leaf; a few small holes) LACKING leaf * (= dedication) and map 1 (folding map of Sumatra, Borneo, Java and the Moluccas; title page, and some plates loosely inserted) ¶ Hulsius II. First edition, probably second issue. With the map in second state, and plate 2 and 4 as they should be in the second issue, but with plate 3 placed as in the first issue. The only significant difference between both issues is the first page of the dedication (that has been reset for the second issue). Since our copy wants the dedication, we cannot be certain about the exact issue. Tiele p. 176. Hulsius based his German translation on the second edition of Jacob Neck's journal. ¶ Church II.262 (or 261?).

Graesse III, 502. [Click Below for Full Description]

He also shows remarkable insight into the nature of crystallization... A whole chapter is devoted to the magnet...». Second edition.
