Francesco VILLAMENA (Assisi, 1564 - Roma, 7 Luglio 1624)
Bulino, 1597 -1599, in basso al centro "Anibal Caracius Invent. F. Villamena. [Click Below for Full Description]

[LUIS DE MONTOIA, Frei].
A report giving advice on preserving the King of Portugal's territories in the "Pegu" (Bago) Empire in southern Burma, now part of Myanmar, and Portugal's trade and commerce there. The Portuguese conquered these territories in 1599/1600, with the city of Pegu as its capital, and kept a strong presence there even after the capital moved to Ava in 1634. Two notes on the back of the last page indicate that the document was copied from the papers of "Fr Luis", meaning Frei Luis de Montoia. It includes information on the role of Felipe Mascarenhas, Governor of Ceylon 1630-1631 & 1640-1645, who was in Pegu in the 1630s and was to serve as Viceroy of Portuguese India 1645-1651.Two wormholes at the foot of the first leaf, not affecting any text, otherwise in very good condition. .

IMPORTANT: IF YOU ARE VIEWING THIS LISTING ON A CELL PHONE OR TABLET, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CLICK THE "READ MORE" LINK BELOW FOR A DETAILED DESCRIPTION AND ADDITIONAL PHOTOS. Good condition. Please see listing and photos for a complete description of Bible condition. ORIGINAL 1599 GENEVA BIBLE WITH APOPCRYPHA & CONCORDANCES Available for purchase is an ORIGINAL "Geneva Bible" printed in 1599. The Geneva Bible is a 16th-century English translation produced by expatriate Calvinists who fled to Geneva from England during the reign of Queen "Bloody" Mary. It was the English Bible of the Protestant Reformation and the Bible of the Puritans and Pilgrims. The Pilgrims brought the 1599 Geneva Bible with them when they arrived in the New World in 1620, and it was the doctrine upon which America was founded. It predates the King James Bible of the Anglican Church (first published in 1611), which most early American colonists wanted nothing to do with anyway, since they were fleeing the religious oppression of the Church of England. It's rather ironic that Protestants of all denominations today embrace the King James Version of the Bible (which reads 90% the same as the Geneva), even though the King James Version is not a Protestant Bible. Most Protestants have never even heard of the Geneva Bible, the Bible of their own heritage. The Geneva Bible broke new ground for printed Bibles. [8], "623" [= 643], [1] pp.First Latin edition, with Frans Hogenberg's original early map of the Low Countries and a very rare additional portrait of Van Meteren by Hendrik Hondius the Elder, dated 1599. Van Meteren's History first appeared in a 1593 German translation by the same publisher, based on an unauthorized Dutch text. The Latin translation of the German was updated with events up to 1598 without Van Meteren's knowledge. Mylius's Cologne editions include Hogenberg's original map, engraved ca. 1587. The first authorized edition, in the original Dutch, appeared in 1599 in Delft, and includes a copy of Hogenberg's map. Van Meteren's work was the first history of the Netherlands to treat the revolt against the Spanish up to the foundation of the Dutch Republic but was banned by the States-General, though the ban was lifted six months later. With the bookplate of Boies Penrose and the names of J. Hoare and Thomas Smith on first fly-leaf and title-page. Bottom of spine damaged; some old annotations in the margins; some stains. Tradotta nuovamente, 1599. in-4, pp. (24), 1138, leg. m. pelle post. Front. a stampa rossa e nera con piccola marca tipogr., iniz. ornate, car. corsivo. Con una tav. doppia f.t. (teoria musicale), numerose belle fig. silogr. a mezza e piena pag. n.t. MARCONVILLE, Jean De
Rouen / A Roven , Chez Nicolas Hamillon , 1599.
