Th. G.

THE WAY OF A MAN WITH A NYMPH: THE NYMPH DRESSINGS OF G.E.M. SKUES.

Creel Press. Elstead, Surrey. - 2005 1st edition. Two volumes. One of text and one containing flies. Fully bound in blue Morocco gilt. Small scuff to front board otherwise a fine set in slip-case. Edition limited to 55 copies. A very handsome set of two leather-bound volumes; one of text and one containing twenty trout flies tied by Jim Nice for this edition. Begun by Donald Overfield and Timothy Benn, the publisher, it was shelved on Overfield's death, then later completed by Benn and Tony Hayter. The text volume contains three pieces: i. An extended essay by Tony Hayter entitled "G.E.M. Skues and the Nymph"; ii. An excerpt from The Flyfishers' Journal describing a Flyfisher's Club debate of 1938 on nymph fishing in chalkstreams; iii. "Skues' Nymphs and other Fly Dressings," taken from Overfield's "The Way of a Man with a Trout." Timothy Benn provides introductory remarks and Kenneth Robson the Preface. The book was edited by Jonathan Newdick, while Terry Griffiths contributed an appreciation of Jim Nice - who tied the flies for the book's de luxe edition - to the Flies volume.         20TH CENTURY GHOSTS: FANTASYCON SIGNED LIMITED EDITION HARDCOVER WITH REMARQUE BY VINCENT CHONG

PS Publishing, UK 2005 - This is the true first edition of this title, which is the 2005 British Fantasy Con Edition released before any other edition at the 2005 Convention where Joe Hill was guest of honour. There were roughly 35 copies printed and sent directly to the event by the printer and given to authors and industry related guests for their contribution to the event. This is number 'F'Con 18'. This edition is SIGNED BY JOE HILL and contains the extra chapters subsequently cut from future editions. VINCENT CHONG HAS ALSO REMARQUED THE FRONT END PAPER AND PAGE EDGES TO MAKE AN ALREADY INCREDIBLY SCARCE BOOK UNIQUE. The jacket is Very Fine and unclipped. The book itself has a lovely straight spine and with the jacket on appears in new condition. However when you remove the jacket you'll see a small ding to the top front corner and left-top of the spine and another ding at the top back corner. I would guess it was dropped at some point. Disappointing but overall still in very collectible condition. Sensible offers considered; stupid ones simply ignored. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Inscribed by the author on the dedication page: "To Lois with lots of love J. K. Rowling." Rowling ups the ante as she heads towards the conclusion of her series, with more mature themes and a decidedly grimmer tone. By finding and destroying the Horcruxes, Harry can finally defeat the evil wizard and avenge his parents. Fine in Fine dust jacket.

Viridarium Umbris: The Pleasure Garden of Shadow (Which Treats of the Secret Knowledge of Trees and Herbs, Deliver'd by the Fallen Angels unto Man)

NP: Xoanon Publishing, 2005. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Limited to 576 hand-numbered copies. Bound in full iridescent sage green cloth, from boards blocked in bronze foil with emblem of Tree, Serpent, and Kerubim of Midnight's Eden. With black endsheets. 526 pages. Black and white illustrations and sigilae throughout. Book design by Daniel A. Schulke and Andrew D. Chumbley. An extensive grimorium of Wortcunning, or herb-magic, the Pleasure-Garden treats of the secret knowledge of trees and herbs as delivered by the Fallen Angels unto mankind. The book?s principal concerns are the sorcery and gnosis of the Greenwood, as arising from the varied luminaries of the Eternal Gardens of the Arte Magical. As a grimoire of Spiritual Botany, the Book is a Hortus Conclusus of text and image intended for the indwelling of these plant-spirits. The work encompasses magical practices, formulae, and mystical exegesis, all treating the respective arcana of Nature-Spirits and the powers of individual plants. Magical foci are on devotion, purity, humility, silence, solitude, and the hieros-gamos of wortcunner and plant as a tutelary relationship, in conjunction with the Mysteries of Cain, first tiller of the soil. The whole is intended as a textual reification of occult herbalism within the context of the Sabbatic Craft Tradition. This is a fine copy of this scarce tome.
