VERY SPECIAL*** - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - Bloomsbury First Edition/ 9th Impression Hardback - really scarce edition with - 1 WAND appearing TWICE ERROR on Harry's shopping list for Diagon Alley

Bloomsbury 1997 - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - Bloomsbury First Edition/ 9th Impression Hardback - very rare example with the rarest First Edition text errors. Wow - what a fantastic find!!! On the Hogwart's School List, page 53 "1 Wand" is repeated again at the bottom of the List. This error was on the 1st & 2nd impressions, some of the 8th impressions and a very small amount of the 9th impressions also, where the original plates were used and printed in error - in total there are less than 1000 copies estimated with this error across the 1st, 2nd, 8th & 9th impressions. Also on page 8, at the end of the top line, the words high chair are joined by mistake and read "highchair". This was corrected very early on in the Bloomsbury Children's hardbacks just as the "Wand" error had been. This copy is the original trade hardback, first published by Bloomsbury, London 1997. It is a very early First Edition hardback published by Bloomsbury London, it is not a book club, Ted Smart or large print edition. The text at the bottom of the front cover reads - Winner of the 1997 Smarties Gold Award. The illustration on the rear cover and spine is of the original Young Wizard as on the first printing. The text copyright is to Joanne Rowling, not J K Rowling as it was corrected to on later editions. The illustrated boards are in mint condition. The unclipped dust jacket is also in mint condition without any creases and looks like new.a miracle for this well read children's book. It also is protected with a Mylar cover to make sure it stays in such great condition. The binding is superb, and internally the book is unmarked and has not been read. The number line is 10 9. A very rare example - in exceptionally good condition. A Grade 'A' collector's copy. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

THE DRAGON-BOOK OF ESSEX. Grimorium Synomosia Dracotaos. An Enchiridion of the Crooked Path, Being a Grammar of Quintessential Sorcery, Containing the Sacred Rites and Formulae Undertaken in the Mysteries of the Great Dragon. Transmitted through the Circle of Four Watchers, Seen and Unseen, and Here Set Forth By the Hand of Alogos Dhul' Qarnen Khidir, Andrew D. Chumbley. DELUXE EDITION, LIMITED TO 196 HAND-NUMBERED COPIES, BOUND IN FULL BLACK GOATSKIN, SLIPCASED

No Place: Xoanon, 2014. First Edition, First Printing. Leather Bound. Fine in Slipcase. First Edition. Large Thick Quarto, original full black morocco stamped in gold on spine and front panel, marbled endpapers, silk ribbon bookmarker. Slipcased. 834 pp., single volume. Containing numerous illustrations and sigillae by the author throughout. Issued in an edition limited to 196 hand-numbered copies. A fine copy without dust jacket as issued. Note: This is a very large, heavy, oversized volume; additional postage will be required from Overseas buyers. ¶ Following the Azoëtia, The Dragon Book of Essex represents the second work of Chumbley’s three-book magical opus the Trimagisterion. From this period of work, Chumbley formulated ‘Crooked Path Sorcery’ as a trans-historical magical model, operant in a number of systems of sorcery, most notably in the witchcraft of his native Essex. The Crooked Path may be seen to mirror the zoötype of the Serpent, wending between such magical antipodes as blessing and cursing, honour and treachery, Tabu and its breaking. Its quintessential nature is transgressive, and through this apostasy, the illuminant fire of the Serpent descends. This substantial work expounds the sorcerous ethos and praxes of the Crooked Path ritual system. Its contents include a cycle of ten extensive Mystery-rites, each accompanied by adjunctive solitary rituals and detailed commentaries. Additional texts relate the intricacies of Sabbatic ritualization, as well as an extensive body of stellar lore and ritual. The Sorcerous Formulae of Number and Sign are also communicated, together with detailed exegeses of the Quadriga, the specific covine-type of the Crooked Path. A detailed section on the Magical Weapons of the Draconian Sorcerer complements the text. This work is intended as an entire resumé of the ancestral and ophidian components of Traditional Craft Sorcery and Sabbatic Gnosis. The Dragon Book of Essex originally comprised a portion of the rites and practices of an inner conclave of the Cultus Sabbati known as The Column of the Crooked Path. Central to the Draconian ritual cycle is the enfleshment of the primordial Serpent of Eld both within the body of the practitioner as the First Sorcerer Azha-Cain, and within the earth of the World-Field as the Dragon Azhdeha. This dual-natured work is realised through rites of bodily sacrifice unto the Serpent, and subsequently through a year-long cycle of practices. These rites, being solar, lunar, and stellar in nature, transfix the celestial attributes of the Dragon’s Body within the telluric ritual arena and the sensorium of the practitioner. A private initiatic edition of ten copies, each having three volumes, was published in 1997. Subsequently, other sections of the book were diffused through the Cultus’ outer sodality, ‘The Companie of the Serpent Cross’ for private study and solitary work. This first public release of the Dragon-Book incorporates refinements to the text made by the author in 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2003, as well as corrections and marginalia from his own personal working copy and never-before-seen illustrations.

        Pomegranate. Mezzotints by Judith Rothchild

[Reynes: Editions de l'eau. 1997]. One of 14 deluxe copies all on Hahnemuhle paper, each numbered and signed by Fainlight and Rothchild on the colophon with an original drawing and page of manuscript. In addition there were 28 regular copies , 8 hors commerce. In addition, there were 40 additional copies of the mezzotints editioned. Page size: 15-1/2" x 10-1/2". Bound: loose in original wrappers, housed in red publisher's slipcase, paper over boards. New. With mezzotints printed by the artist, Judith Rothchild, the text was printed by Albert Woda, the publisher, who also designed the layout. This is Judith Rothchild's first livre d'artiste. Noted poet Ruth Fainlight has contributed a moving poem using the imagery of pomegranates and its association with the Greek myth of Persephone and Demeter to pose questions about the life process, aging, revisiting our youth, death and rebirth. Ms. Rothchild's pomegranates are rich and warm, almost supernaturally lit images -- always in pairs -- exposing its complicated fruit. The artist usually works in the pastel medium, using vibrant strong colors, usually still lifes, bringing life to inanimate objects with magical light. Encouraged by master engraver, Albert Woda, to work in mezzotints, Ms. Rothchild has created six haunting images to perfectly complement Ms. Fainlight's poem. See illustration.7 See an Image.

Just As I Am: The Autobiography of Billy Graham.

Harper Collins, San Francisco 1997 - First edition. Octavo, original half cloth. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Inscribed by the author on the title page to Bob Hope and his wife Dolores, "To my dear friends Bob and Dolores God bless you always Billy Graham." Though this copy is personally signed and inscribed by Graham, attached to the front end page is a tipped-in note with the author's apologies for being unable to personally sign books due to his Parkinson's Disease. Rare personally signed and a wonderful association copy. From the library of Bob and Dolores Hope. Accompanied by a signed letter from Linda Hope, certifying that this volume is from the Library of Bob Hope. Billy Graham has touched the hearts and souls of millions with his message of faith. Hailed as the world's preacher, his calling as an evangelist has taken him to every nation, from Europe to Asia, from major capitals to the most remote outposts. His crusades have spanned fifty years, and he has been a part of history in the making and friend to every president since Eisenhower. A pioneer in social issues, he has led by his extraordinary example of integrity. In Just As I Am, published by Harper Collins in 1997, Billy Graham looks back at it all with down-to-earth warmth and candor--remembering his dairy farm upbringing, his early preaching experiences, and the overwhelming international response to his public ministry. The New York Times remarked, "[t]he story of Graham's life itself is so remarkable." [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

        An Imperfect Solution.

Studio D'Ambrosio, Phoenix, Arizona. One of numbered 50 copies, signed by D'Ambrosio. 1997 - 2 7/8 inches x 2 in. x 2 in. A miniature book consisting of five special boxes bound in a series between the two covers, with linking texts. The boxes include various items, as: small sea shells, pearls, turquoise, silver, dried flowers, red coral, various colors and types of papers; the front panel of box four is a special cast paper page that is back lit by a tiny bulb that lights up when that section is opened; this comes with a replaceable battery that is used to light the bulb. Joe D'Ambrosio partly based this miniature book on Joseph Cornell's boxes. The binding features a cut-out castle form-front and back cover, with floral design cloth spine and edges, silver ties to hold the book closed. Very scarce item. This is one of Joe D'Ambrosio's most innovative and unusual productions, and possibly, one of the few miniature books which lights up. In fine condition. [Limitation Statement]: It was printed on Somerset paper using magnesium plates and a Vandercook No. 4 letterpress. The edition is 50 copies. [signed]: D'Ambrosio. Terra: Struggle of the Landless.

Phaidon Press, London 1997 - First edition. Original gray cloth. Light wear to the bottom boards, else fine in a fine dust jacket. Signed by both Sebastiao Salgado and Nobel Prize-winning author Jose Saramago, who contributed the powerful preface to this equally powerful book. A gifted photographer and a man of great compassion, Salgado does not take frivolous pictures. Here he returns to Brazil to document the lives of peasants forced off the land by the industrialization of agriculture, "landless" farmers, some of whom were massacred when they staged a demonstration in 1996. The struggle for land continues, but there is hope, and hope, along with quiet pride, is present even in the most strained visages recorded in Salgado's magnificent duotones, works of art that convey far more "information" than televised news reports. Echoes of An Autobiography.

Doubleday, New York 1997 - First edition. Octavo. Fine in near fine dust jacket. Signed by both Nobel Laureates Naguib Mahfouz and Nadine Gordimer, who contributed the foreword to this volume. Both signatures were obtained in person. Naguib Mahfouz was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1988 for his status as one of the first contemporary writers of Arabic literature to explore themes of existentialism (Gordon, 2007). He published 34 novels, 350 short stories, dozens of movie scripts, and five plays over a 70-year career. Many of his works have been made into Egyptian and foreign films. Mahfouz's work describes the development of his country, Egypt, in the 20th-century but in a manner that combine the literary techniques of Eastern and Western literature, authors such as Marcel Proust and Franz Kafka. His stories are set in the densely populated urban areas of Cairo, and his characters are ordinary people who must cope with the modernization of society and the temptations of Western values.
