J.K. Rowling
Bloomsbury, 1997. Lovely, clean example of the 10th impression in almost as new, hardly read, if at all. Still pretty much tight like new. No inscriptions and clean pages throughout. Lightly toned at the page block edge, as is very common with most, if not all the early impressions. The dust jacket is, on the whole, bright and not price clipped. No obvious edge wear or creasing at all, albeit the spine looks somewhat sun faded. In all a superb copy of a book which is becoming very scarce in any early impressions and, especially, in this sort of condition.

1997. Very good. Joanne Kathleen Rowling . All first points present : the Wendy Cooling blurb on the cover, full number line, no space between Taylor and 1997. On page 53, wand is listed twice. Condition: This is a very good copy. Front cover has small chip missing. Back cover has a crease. Those are the only two main flaws. No library stamps, no bookplates, no inscriptions, scribbles, etc. Page block is just a tad toned but better than most copies. The pages are in excellent shape and binding is firm. Only a few of these paperbacks first prints are around in at least very good condition. Priced to sell. Email me with questions. If it has not sold , I will just leave it in the safety deposit box at my bank. Thanks for looking. [Attributes: First Edition]

Travers, P.L
New York: Harcourt, Brace & Company, 1997. Signed limited edition of this children's classic, one of 100 numbered copies, this is number 77. Octavo, original cloth, illustrated by Mary Shepard. In fine condition. "The first Mary Poppins stories were written when [Travers] was recovering from an illness, and were told to two children of her acquaintance. Mary Poppins appeared in 1934 and was an immediate success" (Carpenter & Prichard, 540). It centers on magical English nanny of the same name. She is blown by the east wind to Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane, London, and into the Banks's household to care for their children. It was adapted by Walt Disney in 1964 into a musical film titled Mary Poppins, starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. It received a total of thirteen Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture - an unsurpassed record for any other film released by Walt Disney Studios - and won five; Best Actress for Andrews, Best Film Editing, Best Original Music Score, Best Visual Effects, and Best Original Song for "Chim Chim Cher-ee". In 2013, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Mary Poppins is widely considered to be Walt Disney's "crowning achievement", being his only film to garner a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars in his lifetime. In 2004, Disney Theatrical in collaboration with Cameron Mackintosh produced a stage musical also called Mary Poppins in London's West End theatre. The first collected edition of Cook's voyages to be published in the US 2 volumes, duodecimo (170 x 95 mm). Contemporary brown calf, rebacked to style, titles to red morocco label to spines. Copper engraved frontispieces and seven plates, the plate "A view of the habitations in Nootka Sound", present twice, though only called for in volume II. Ownership inscription dated 1952 in green ink to p. [iv] of both volumes; ownership stamp of Vasconcellos to foot of p. [5] of volume II. Careful restoration to spine ends and tips. A couple of scuffs to covers, edges toned, pencil marks to pastedowns, occasional worming to contents, most notably at foot of gathering y in volume II, tear to fore edge of p 289-90 of volume II, occasional dampstains to contents, offsetting to text, nevertheless a very good copy. First US collected edition of Cook's three voyages. Forbes notes that it "appears to be an adaptation of the text contained in Volumes VI and VII of William Mavor's Historical Account of the Most Celebrated Voyages, Travels & Discoveries" (1796). This edition is uncommon, with just two copies traced institutionally in the UK. "Cook earned his place in history by opening up the Pacific to western civilisation and by the foundation of British Australia. The world was given for the first time an essentially complete knowledge of the Pacific Ocean and Australia, and Cook proved once and for all that there was no great southern continent, as had always been believed. Tibbets, Paul W.
1997. Historically significant content in this typed letter personally signed by General Paul W. Tibbets. The letter is dated 14 November 1997 and reads as follows "Dear Master Walton: .If I had any comment pertaining to Hiroshima it is that I hope people will look at it as we did years ago. Namely, that it was necessary to prevent a greater loss of life if an invasion had taken place. Hope I have been of some help - Best wishes. Sincerely, Paul W. Tibbets". This letter has been signed by General Tibbets in blue ink and has normal mailing folds otherwise in FINE condition. On August 6th, 1945 Colonel Paul W. Tibbets, of the 509th Bomber Group and pilot of the Enola Gay, received his orders and in the early morning hours roared down a runway bound for Hiroshima. The B-29 Superfortress lifted off Tinian Island at 2:45AM for the six and one half hour flight to Hiroshima. At 31,600 feet, with a ground speed of 328 m.p.h., a bomb weighing 9,700 pounds, containing 137.5 pounds of Uranium 235 was released. The firebomb that erupted was equivalent of thirteen thousand tons of TNT and thousands of degrees hotter than the surface of the sun. It melted granite and vaporized people leaving only their shadows on the few remaining buildings left standing in the city after the blast. Fine Condition [Attributes: Signed Copy]

J.K. Rowling
Joanne Kathleen Rowling (1997) 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', UK first edition, first printing, published by Bloomsbury, issued in paperback. This is the true first edition which was published simultanously with the hardback edition. The hardback edition had a print run of 500 copies; this paperback edition was published simultanously in a run of 5,150 copies (Errington, 2017, p.7). All first issue points present: the Wendy Cooling blurb on the cover; full number line on the copyright page and no space between Taylor and 1997. On page 53 'wand' is listed twice. Condition: this is a very good condition copy. There are no library stamps, no bookplates, and no previous owners' inscriptions inside the book of any sorts. No underlinings, no scribbles, no sketches etc. inside the text as often seen in other copies. The wrappers are unfaded and the spine very nice. One diagonal crease on the top right corner of the front panel. The page block is lightly toned commensurate with age in line with the cheap paper stock used. However, the page block edges are not foxed as sometimes seen. There was a tear on the back panel running close to the spine as shown in the last image. This tear has been professionally closed by th UK's leading restoration expert of modern first editions, Richard Reeve. This has been done so well that if you are not an expert and do not know about the tear you woud not notice this (see image no 11). However, we do mention this to be as accurate, transparent and honest as possible. All in all, a solid very good copy. In 1997 Rowling was an unknown au … [Click Below for Full Description]

Bloomsbury. Joanne (Kathleen) Rowling (1997) 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', UK first edition, first printing, published by Bloomsbury. The true hardback first edition with all first issue points present: the Wendy Cooling blurb on the front panel; the rear panel bears the typo with an 'o' missing in "Philosopher's" and "Hogwarts School of Wizardy and Witchcraft" instead of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. Page 53 lists 'wand' twice as called for. No dust jacket as issued. One of only 500 copies printed of which the majority went into public libraries. This is NOT an ex-library copy and bears no stamps anywhere inside the book. Also, no previous owners' scribbles of any sorts. Condition: very good as our images showcase. No library or previous owners' stamps anywhere inside the book. All pages are present. There are no scribbles inside, no drawings, no graffiti of any sorts. Dedication page has a diagional crease as shown. This edition has been printed on cheap paper stock and therefore the paper is prone to natural ageing of which this copy is no exception. The page block edges are yellowed/ darkened commensurate with age. A conservation expert has undertaken moderate restoration in order to restore rubbing to the spine tips and corners of the boards. To be clear, the restoration was undertaken by the leading expert of modern first edition restoration in the UK and is not to be confused with an amateur job. Also, we canot stress enough that the restoration was moderate. We have seen copies that look like a truck ran over them which was not the case wi … [Click Below for Full Description]

J.K. Rowling
Bloomsbury. Spelling error at the back panel in 'Philosopher's' with wrong word order in 'School of Wizardry and Witchcraft'. Condition: this is a solid very good condition copy. There are no library stamps, no bookplates, and no previous owners' inscriptions inside the book of any sorts. No underlinings, no scribbles, no sketches etc. inside the text as often seen in other examples. The wrappers are unfaded with no tears, no heavy scratches or heavy creases. Slight edge wear to the wrappers with a light corner crease to top corner. In some places the laminate has started to lift a little. The book has been read and the spine has the typical central crease resulting from being opened. However, the spine seems to be unfaded. The page block is lightly toned commensurate with age in line with the cheap paper stock used. However, the page block edges are not foxed as sometimes seen. All in all, a solid very good copy. In 1997 Rowling was an unknown author, copies were read and handled by children, and paperb … [Click Below for Full Description]

All first issue points present: the Wendy Cooling blurb on the cover; full number line on the copyright page and no space between Taylor and 1997. On page 53 'wand' is listed twice. Condition: this is a near fine condition copy. There are no library stamps, no bookplates, and no previous owners' inscriptions inside the book of any sorts. No underlinings, no scribbles, no sketches etc. inside the text as often seen in other examples. The wrappers are unfaded with no tears, scratches or heavy creases. Usual slight edge wear to the wrappers as shown The book has been read and has one slight central crease resulting from being opened. However, the spine seems to be unfaded. The page block is just a touch toned and certainly much less than often seen. Inside the paper has ages well with just a hint of toning. All in all, a solid near fine copy. In 1997 Rowling was an unknown author, copies were read and handled by children, and paperbacks being paperbacks, the vast majority of those 5,150 copies are quite badly damaged to varying degrees. The first hardback edition was intended for public libraries and hence the first print run of 500 copies was therefore low. Of those about … [Click Below for Full Description]
