SELECTED STORIES - Rare Pristine/Shrinkwrapped Copy of The Advance Reader's Edition/Limited Edition

New York City, NY: Alfred A. Knopf, 1996 - 1st Printing. Signed. 545 pages. Published in 1996. Retrospective collection of short stories. Advance Reader's Edition/Limited Edition of 200 signed copies. The first appearance of the title in the United States. Precedes and should not be confused with the regular trade edition. They have the same ISBN. The edition is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Alfred A. Knopf: Regular-sized volume format. Cream cloth boards with gilt titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Short stories by Alice Munro. Purple pictorial slipcase with titles on one side. In publisher's original shrinkwrap. Printed on pristine-white, archival stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Gathers and presents twenty-eight of the most representative and finest short stories by arguably its greatest living writer. "There's nothing quite like a retrospective collection of short stories by a virtuoso of the form: Neither novels nor poetry nor memoirs present readers with such richness, such surprise, such twists of fate, and such quirks of personality. With this gathering of the best of nearly three decades of work, Alice Munro's place in the constellation of short story Masters, which includes such kindred spirits as Sherwood Anderson, Flannery O'Connor, and William Maxwell, is affirmed and celebrated. Like her peers, Munro has established a distinctive territory: The country and small towns that hug the shores of Lake Huron. In story after story, each so different in content and mood from the next, Munro achieves a consistent and remarkable ease of syntax, delicacy of psychology, and resonance of visual imagery. There is much to savor and treasure here. A true literary event, the publication of this generous selection of stories, drawn from Alice Munro's seven collections, gives enormous reading pleasure while it confirms Munro's place in the front rank of today's writers of fiction" (Publisher's blurb). "Our Chekhov" (Cynthia Ozick). An absolute "must-have" edition for Alice Munro collectors. This is a copy of the Advance Reader's Edition/Limited Edition, and it is very prominently and beautifully signed in pen on the publisher's tipped-in page by Alice Munro. Her publisher has issued several special editions such as this of her books because throughout her long career, Munro made very few public appearances, and is a reluctant signer at best. As such, most of her books are signed on a bookplate, which are much less desirable than copies signed on either the title page or tipped-in page. This title is a modern classic. This is one of very few copies of the Advance Reader's Edition/Limited Edition still available online, is still in the publisher's original shrinkwrap, and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. Its value will not only keep but keep going up over time. A very rare signed copy thus. One of the greatest living writers. A fine collectible copy. Milan, ITALY & Dijon, FRANCE. 1996-2007.: A&M Bookstore, L'Association Des Temps Liberes, Les Presses Du Reel & Fondazione Pitti Discovery, First Editions 1/3000. 8vo. Illustrated Wrappers. Contemporary Art Periodical. Near Fine or Better. Each np (192pp), profusely illustrated in color and b&w. This is a run of twelve of the fifteen total issues of Maurizio Cattelan and Paola Manfrin's quirky compendium in magazine form, "Permanent Food". Gathering found images from the realms of Fine Art, Fashion, Photography, Erotica, Advertising and pretty much everywhere else under the sun, each issue is a visual tour-de force collaged from appropriated cultural signifiers and leavened with a stiff dose of wry Cattelan-esque humor. A most handsome set of the trade editions of this fascinating, irregularly issued artist's project (cited on pages 306-313 of Phillip E. Aarons' "In Numbers: Serial Publications by Artists Since 1955") that has ceased publication lacking only numbers 1, 2, and the 2003 supplement to Italian Vogue that was issued between numbers 10 and 11. Number 12 is actually indicated as issue B, and 13 was never used so as to avoid bad luck. The fifteenth and final issue here is housed in it one of the Fondazione Pitti Discovery limited edition cloth bags featuring silkscreened photographs of the two editors in matching Miu Miu skirts and blouses.         VISIONAIRE NO. 24: LIGHT (TOM FORD FOR GUCCI)

(VISIONAIRE) (FORD, TOM) (GUCCI). Ford, Tom, Stephen Gan, Cecilia Dean & James Kaliardos, Editors. VISIONAIRE NO. 24: LIGHT (TOM FORD FOR GUCCI). New York: Visionaire Publishing, 1996. First Edition 1/3300. Oblong 4to. Plexiglas Box. Fashion Quarterly. Fine./No Jacket - As Issued. np (24 loose transparencies), profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Designed by Tom Ford. Limited to three thousand, three hundred copies, Visionaire No. 24: "Light" is one of the most highly prized issues of everyone's favorite deluxe fashion quarterly. For it "Visionaire teamed up with fashion luminary Tom Ford and Gucci on an issue devoted to the theme - Light. This was our most ambitious project to date in terms of content and production. There was a conscious effort on the parts of both Visionaire and Ford to steer clear of fashion and to focus on what we considered to be fine-art images. It introduced a new cast of contributors to the Visionaire fold: artists such as Sam Taylor-Wood, Andreas Gursky, and Christopher Bucklow; art director Peter Saville; animator Hayao Miyazaki; and architect Toyo Ito". The transparencies are housed in an elegant 5 1/2 x 15 x 2 1/2 inch sliding black Lucite case affixed with a silver plaque that contains a Lumigraphics light-emitting sheet operating on ten AAA batteries. A brand new, most handsome numbered copy (#1678/3300) in fine working order with batteries included of this beautiful object with the transparencies unopened in the publisher's shrinkwrap housed in Visionaire's black, foam-lined packing carton, as issued. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight and value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.
