The Revelation of St. John the Divine

The Limited Editions Club, New York 1995 - No. 85 of 300 copies, Elephant Folio - over 15" to 23" tall, signed by artist. The Book of the Revelation of St. John, with its graphic depiction of the end of the world, has inspired countless works of art and literature. Drawing on his deep reverence for the Christian tradition and his years of artistic expression, he "created a rich visual interpretation of one of the most intriguing books of the Bible and brought it into contemporary relevance" (N. B. info from Monthly Letter). ***DESCRIPTION: Bound in burgundy linen with gilt lettering on the spine, fifteen tipped-in relief engravings hand-printed on Japanese Kitikata paper at Evans Editions, set in Monotype Caslon with Romulus heads at Golgonooza Letter Foundry with special numerals made from punches hand-cut by Dan Carr, printed at the Wild Carrot Letterpress; 22" tall, signed by artist Allan Rohan Crite, Limited Edition with this no. 85 of 300; Monthly Letter laid in. Encased in a black cloth clamshell box with burgundy velvet-like lining, red leather label with gilt lettering on the front. ***CONDITION: Book, Letter, and box are all in fine condition with no flaws, sunning, or wear. ***POSTAGE: Due to the size and weight of this volume, additional postage will apply; we are happy to ship at cost to both domestic and international customers, please inquire for details. ***Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.         GARY SCHNEIDER: "GLOVE": ARTIST PROOF

New York City, NY: Gary Schneider Studios, 1995. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. As New/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. New York City, NY: Gary Schneider Studios, 1995. Hardcover. As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 1 pages. Rare Gary Schneider collectible art. A pristine, framed Artist Proof of "Glove" handprint, titled, dated, numbered, and signed by Gary Schneider. There is no ISBN. The print is now rare. A brilliant production by Gary Schneider: Regular-sized print format. Measures 8 X 10 inches. Beautifully framed borderless, in very thick and heavy silver-gray metal and Plexiglas by Tracy Bungay Fine Framing, under the direct supervision of Martha Schneider Gallery Chicago. Full frame size is 9 X 11 inches. Eminently suitable for display. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Gary Schneider's "Glove". The luminous print of Sylvia Wolf's hand, one of the most important figures of contemporary art photography. "I have made handprint-portraits since 1993. I consider them to be as expressive as any portrait of a face, more private, and possibly more revealing" (Gary Schneider). His other handprint-portraits are collected in the lovely Artist Book, "Gary Schneider: Hand Book" (1998), published by Aperture, and the "culmination of 17 years of Schneider's commitment to making portraits of hands. For Schneider (who, in a former incarnation, was known as a master of chemical darkroom printing), the adaptation of digital technology marks a profound and telling shift in contemporary art and publishing" (Aperture Foundation). An absolute "must-have" collectible, not just memorabilia, item/artwork for Gary Schneider collectors. <b><i> This framed Artist Proof is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully titled, dated, numbered, and signed in pencil on verso by the artist/photographer: "Glove 1995 AP 6 Gary Schneider". Because it is signed at the back, the signature is NOT visible in front, as many framed prints are. So a Xeroxed image-proof comes with the print, and is enclosed in its own protective plastic sleeve. This title is a great photographic print. As far as we know, this is the only copy available online, is beautifully framed, and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. Please note: Gary Schneider prints command thousands of dollars from his galleries, at art fairs, and at auction. His work is slowly but surely destined for canonical recognition. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed print thus. </b></i> 1 original Artist Proof. One of the most brilliant artist/photographers of our time. A flawless collectible print. (SEE ALSO OTHER GARY SCHNEIDER TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).

        Honeymoon.

Verba Mundi/ David A. Godine, Boston 1995 - First American edition of this "haunting tale of quiet intensity" (Review of Contemporary Fiction). Octavo, original half cloth. Inscribed by Patrick Modiano on the half-title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Translated by Barbara Wright. A winner of France's prestigious Prix Goncourt and the Nobel Prize, Modiano is the author of 17 novels as well as the screenplay for Louis Malle's noteworthy film, Lacombe Lucien. In this slight but probing novel, a middle-aged man decides to take a "honeymoon." Scheduled to fly to Brazil on a job, documentary filmmaker Jean B. instead slips away to Milan and then returns to a Parisian suburb. There he attempts to trace the life and death (by suicide) of a woman named Ingrid, whom he met while hitchhiking to Saint-Tropez. World War II is raging, and Ingrid, who is traveling with her husband, clearly has something to hide. Ingrid's mystery is not rewardingly played out, but Modiano is a wonderfully evocative writer--there's a nice touch of menace throughout, and the cool, collected writing feels like a salve.         Fabulae et selecta quaedam Arabum adagia. Cum interpretatione latina & notis Thomae Erpenii.Leiden, Joannes Maire (colophon: "excudebat” Willem Christiaens van der Boxe, “typis” Johannes Janssonius), 1636. 4to. With Maire's woodcut device on the title-page and Van der Boxe's woodcut device above the colophon. Early 19th-century boards covered with blue brocade paper.

J.A. Lane, "Arent Corsz Hogenacker", in: Quaerendo XXV (1995), pp. 83-111, 163191, at p. 174; Smitskamp, Philologia orientalis 70; STCN (3 or 4 copies); for Luqman: A.F.L. Beeston et al., eds., Cambridge history of Arabic literature to the end of the Umayyad period (1983), pp. 378-381. Second edition, in the original Arabic with a Latin translation and notes by Thomas Erpenius (1584-1624), of the classic fables by Luqman (Lokman). Luqman "the greatest figure in the whole corpus of pre-Islamic myth and legend" (Cambridge history of Arabic literature, p. 378) is to Arabic what Aesop is to Greek, a real but much mythologized figure, said to have gathered his wisdom from observation of (and by some accounts conversation with) animals. Surat 31 of the Quran is named after him. Luqman's animal fables became an important part of pre-Islamic Arabic culture, were incorporated into early Islamic culture and remain popular today in both Western and Islamic culture. The fables are first given in Arabic, followed by a translation in Latin and Erpenius's notes. Erpenius, appointed professor of Arabic at Leiden University in 1613, set up a printing office for Arabic and other "oriental" languages and had Arabic type cut under his supervision by Arent Corsz. Hogenacker. He printed the first edition of Luqman's fables as his first trial publication, still without vowel points for the Arabic type. He annotated his own copy of the first edition extensively, and these revisions were incorporated into the present second edition, printed with vowel points. The present edition uses a new Arabic type, also by Hogenacker. The larger Arabic type (a single line on the title-page) was also new and this is almost its only use in the Netherlands. Some manuscript notes on the title-page and later owner's pencil notes in Arabic in margins and on final flyleaf. Lower outer corner torn off title-page, some marginal thumbing and waterstains and a few small wormholes. Otherwise in good condition. Definitive edition of Erpenius's seminal Luqman text, bringing the greatest Arabic fables to the Western World.

Dedica e firma autografe dell'Autore datata 5-05-00 (Inscribed and signed by the Author, dated 5-05-00). 97 fotografie in bianco e nero e a colori e un testo in italiano e inglese di Guido Guidi. 4to. pp. 122. Dedica e firma autografe dell'Autore datata 5-05-00 (Inscribed and signed by the Author, dated 5-05-00). Ottimo (Fine). Prima edizione (First Edition).

Luqman "the greatest figure in the whole corpus of pre-Islamic myth and legend" ( Cambridge history of Arabic literature , p.

        Hotel-Hotel-Hotel

1995. KIPPENBERGER, Martin. Hotel-Hotel-Hotel. 630 pp. Illustrated with 313 black and white reproductions. Thick 4to., bound in publisher's wrappers in a new orange cloth box. Cologne: Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther Koenig, 1995. |~| This is the second, and most sought-after, volume of Kippenberger's trilogy Hotel-Hotel, Hotel-Hotel-Hotel.and No Drawing No Cry. The books each consist of collections of drawings Kippenbergere made on stationary from hotels around the world. Kippenberger made hundreds of drawings on hotel stationery, a body of work that comes across as a kind of travel diary. Although he often lived in hotels for weeks or even months, he didn't stay at all the hotels whose notepaper he used, often picking it up from other sources. The stationery became, like so many things he encountered, a readymade material for his art. One of an edition of 500 copies. A fine copy, rarely found thus. Koch, Martin Kippenberger Books 1977-1997, No. 138.
