        Africa [SIGNED LIMITED SLIPCASED EDITION]

NY: Bulfinch Press 1995 - SIGNED LIMITED DELUXE SLIPCASED EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, SIGNED by HERB RITTS directly on the special limitation page (the last page), which states 'This is a Special Limited Edition' (one of only 300 copies, though this particular copy is NOT numbered, so it could be an artist copy, or something similar); hardcover bound in grey cloth, cased inside a SLIPCASE (printed in tritone); the book is in NEAR-FINE condition (no marks, no bumps, etc; shows slight shelfwear); also, the publisher didn't do a very good job binding the book, and they used both stitching and glue to bind the spine, so because of the weight of the book the binding is a bit loose (not a big problem, as I see it, all the pages are intact in mint condition and there are NO loose pages, it's just that the pages are a bit vertically misaligned (see photo); the slipcase is also in NEAR-FINE condition (shows just a bit of wear, but NO bumps, marks, etc). A solid copy overall. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Bartleby the Scrivener, A Story of Wall-Street. Calligraphy by Suzanne Moore

[Minneapolis, MN]: Indulgence Press. 1995. One of 100 copies, all on Arches MBM mould made paper, each hand-number and signed in pencil by Wilber Schilling, who designed, printed, and bound this book, the first letterpress edition by Indulgence Press. Page size: 12 x 6 inches; 56pp. Bound by the printer: "sew-boards" structure learned from Daniel Kelm at his Wide Awake Garage, debossed grey paper from deep etched plate (taken from an enlarged section of the frontice piece image of the bricked in window); then attached to a 20pt museum board, using an etching press. The 20pt board allows the paper to retain the debossment after it is glued down to the cover of the book. The binding used on this book is a sewn board structure originally devised by Gary Frost. grey stamped paper over boards, red cloth spine and tips, title printed in black on spine, handmade ochre colored end sheets by MacGregor & Vinzani. Illustrated with frontispiece photograph reproduced as a Kallitype print on Kitakata paper editioned by Mr. Shilling. In addition, noted book artist, Suzanne Moore, has lettered the phrase, "I would prefer not to". It is printed in ochre from polymer plates in an increasingly large size and in an increasingly unreadable page position starting on page 16 and ending with a faint ochre outline on the colophon page. The text of the colophon is shaped to fit within the "p" of prefer. The text was composed in 12 point Bulmer, using the Monotype System, with the assistance of Kent Kasuboske at the Clearing Press. It was printed at the Janus Press by Mr. Schilling. & Originally published anonymously in two parts in 1853, Melville&#39;s story is not simply reprinted here. Rather the aching phrase, "I would prefer not to" is beautifully rendered in Ms. Moore&#39;s extraordinary ochre lettering, superimposed on the black type, the letters increasingly large and illegible as they slip off the page - as Bartleby slips from life. Mr. Schilling&#39;s vision of Melville&#39;s story is lovely to look at and hold and read, but more tellingly is an unobtrusive but challenging interpretation of a classic. <br>See an <A HREF= http://www.bookrouter.com/im/juvelisbks/10181.jpg >Image.</A><br>

        Off Stage

Simon and Schuster, New York 1995 - First edition. A trifle foxed at the foredge and endpapers, near fine in a lightly soiled, near fine dustwrapper. Biography of the Broadway and Hollywood legend, half of the Comden and Green collaboration, writers of *Singin' in the Rain* and other great films and musicals. Very nicely Inscribed by the author to Gloria Jones, wife of the author James Jones: "To Gloria, my beautiful friend -- the first to read this and say she thoguht it was good -- With love, Betty January 1995." Gloria Jones is one of a few people mentioned in the acknowledgements (in terms similar to the inscription), and is pictured in the photos accompanying the text. A nice association. Anacleto, Jay / early original pin up art / Harrier Comics #2 1995

1995 - Jay Anacleto: 1995 original ink & pencil pin-up art on illustration paper, for Harrier Comics #2, 1995. 'The Fly [alien]'. 11" x 17", image continues nearly to the edges. Slightly age-toned, else Fine. See scans. Protected within matting board, but not framed or matted. Unsigned, at least on the front. An extraordinarily textured, detailed, labor-intensive piece by Anacleto - a rare, EARLY published piece - executed for Harrier in his so-called "struggling years" in the Philippines, prior to his coming statewide to work for Marvel and DC etc . In the image, an imaginatively-clad space warrior floats weightlessly, among high-tech machinery and near another space-person, apparently outside a starship of some kind. Very detailed; the amount of work that goes into something like this continues to boggle the mind. Big and emphatic and worthy of dominating a room when hung. LART [Attributes: Soft Cover]

New York: Monacelli Press, 1995. First edition. Near fine; no jacket, as issued. A trace of edgewear, scuffing, some unobtrusive flaking of the yellow spine lettering, else close to fine. A review copy with publicity material laid in. This copy signed by Koolhaas on the title page. A superlative copy of this landmark title, a work that rivals the author&#39;s previous (Delirious New York) in influence and impact. Quite nice.

WILLIAM BURROUGHS SHOT PRINT: AND SOMETHING NEW HAS BEEN ADDED: Limited Edition, Signed Silkscreen Print

(Lawrence, KS:. 1995). First edition. One of 120 copies SIGNED by both Burroughs and Steadman. This six-color silk-screened print measures 30.25 x 44.25 inches and has the added touch of bullet holes "placed with loving care" by Mr. Burroughs. According to Steadman, "This print was shot by William at his home in Lawrence, Kansas, in 12 blocks of 10 sheets at a time of Mouldmade Fine Paper from a distance of 6 feet in his socks and wearing khaki battle fatigues. The year was 1995. Don&#39;t blame me for the strange limitation numbering which goes- A1 thru A10, B1 thru B10, C1 thru C10 etc until L1 thru L10. A1 thru A10 is not available. Neither are some of the other sets which have been allocated here and there to involved parties. But each set is wildly different in effective firearm damage depending on the weapon used by this great and unpredictable writer of the 20th Century." Fine.
