Vintage Dr. Gonzo [Signed Artist's Proof]

(Lexington): (Joe Petro III). (1995). A color silkscreen of a classic Steadman image of Thompson, taken from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. (This is the image that is the basis for the poster listed above.) Initialed by Thompson and signed by Steadman. Steadman is a renowned contemporary artist in his own right, but his images of Thompson are iconic. Only two of his prints were ever signed by both Steadman and by Thompson, this being one of them. A four-color image -- the image is black-and-white with the exception of Thompson's Hawaiian shirt -- there were 500 numbered copies; this copy is labeled "A/P," an Artist's Proof, presumably a much smaller number of these were done. 16-1/2" x 19". Rolled, fine. First Edition. No Binding.

Anacleto, Jay / early original pin up art / Harrier Comics #2 1995

1995 Jay Anacleto: 1995 original ink & pencil pin-up art on illustration paper, for Harrier Comics #2, 1995. 'The Fly [alien]'. 11" x 17", image continues nearly to the edges. Slightly age-toned, else Fine. See scans. Protected within matting board, but not framed or matted. Unsigned, at least on the front. An extraordinarily textured, detailed, labor-intensive piece by Anacleto - a rare, EARLY published piece - executed for Harrier in his so-called "struggling years" in the Philippines, prior to his coming statewide to work for Marvel and DC etc . In the image, an imaginatively-clad space warrior floats weightlessly, among high-tech machinery and near another space-person, apparently outside a starship of some kind. Very detailed; the amount of work that goes into something like this continues to boggle the mind. Big and emphatic and worthy of dominating a room when hung. LART

Olivia: The Lingerie Collection / signed and numbered portfolio and frontispiece / Robert Bane Editions

Beverly Hills, CA: Robert Bane Editions, 1995 Beverly Hill, CA: Robert Bane Editions, 1995. Olivia / The Lingerie Collection. First and only edition, and limited. Signed and numbered in big bold gilt by Olivia (see scan). Pristine; new, including the gilt on white Robert Bane encasing portfolio. Elephant Folio size (20" x 16") executions, one as frontispiece (the one she has signed), and six more, apparently mostly from 1984: "Sheer Magic", "Memories", "Kitty", "I Generally Avoid Temptation Unless I Can't Resist", "John Hancock", and"Between Two Evils". Absolutely succulent offerings, allegedly (according to the frontispiece) in a signed, numbered edition of 8,000 - but I have trouble picturing Olivia sitting and executing that amazing signature 8,000 times, followed by a different number each time. And this portfolio seems to be extremely rare on the market, which an edition of 8,000, one would think, should not be - even one from 1995. In any case, this example is indeed signed and numbered - it's # 1,085, so she did get at least that far. Much sought after, and now very scarce. Pristine. LART

OUR GAME (Pristine True First Edition in First State DW with Mint Uncorrected Proof and Mint Audio Book in First State sleeve)

Hodder & Stoughton 1995 - The first edition - which was not for sale in the UK and traded only at airports and, I believe, in parts of the former colonies - enjoyed a comparatively modest print-run. With most copies serving as a dog-eared alternative to the in-flight movie, truly immaculate copies like this are in genuinely short supply. This is a superbly pristine unread copy with pristine spine and boards, untouched, virginal pages and a mint dustjacket. AS NEW. It comes with an unopened copy of the audio book of the novel (still in publisher's shrinkwrap) as read by the author. The audiobook's sleeve - like the book's dw - is quite different from the version that was offered to the domestic market and is a rarity in its own right. AS NEW. Finally, the book is accompanied by a copy of the uncorrected proof, unread and in mint condition. All three items AS NEW. Extra postage applies. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Octavo, illustrated wraps, 176 pp. Fine; as new. Betty Hill's own story, signed and very scarce. On September 19th, 1961, Hill and her husband, Barney, were became first widely-publicized case of apparent UFO-abduction. After noticing that two hours of their evening had disappeared - and after later hypnosis and study of physical evidence - it became apparent that the pair had been taken aboard a UFO. They became the subject of international attention; television shows and books - the most notable of the latter being John G. Fuller's "An Interrupted Journey" - led to years of touring and speaking by the otherwise humble couple. They were able to recreate the appearance of their alleged abductors, and to sketch a star chart of zeta reticuli. The Hill Abduction [also referred to as the Zeta Reticuli Incident] is not only the first, but one of the most detailed of all claimed abduction events, and one of the few involving physical evidence. This book is Betty's own story, written yeasr later, in which she recounts not only the abduction but her own views on UFO and what they are, and judges which abductions have been, in her view, hoaxes. Extraordinarily scarce, especially with the signature. Provenance information provided to purchaser. L104

Van Gogh, der Selbstmörder durch die Gesellschaft Van Gogh Le Suicidé de la Société

Frankenhardt, Germany:: Edition Schwarze Seite,, 1995.. Edition of 15. 9 x 12.75 x .75"; 84 pages. Monotype letterpress. Seven etchings by Eckhard Froeschlin. Printed on Hahnemühle paper. Handbound with printed paper covered box. Translation by Franz Loechler. Edition of 114: 99 numbered; 15 numbered with Roman numerals. This is a Roman numeral copy. Bilingual French-German edition of Artaud's text on Van Gogh´s suicide. Artaud, French poet, playwright, and theorist, places much of the blame for Van Gogh's "abandoning life" on Dr. Paul Gachet, the psychiatrist who treated him during his last nine months. Van Gogh's "Portrait of Dr. Gachet" is one of his iconic paintings. This essay paints a somewhat different picture of the man. Eckhard Froeschlin: "Antonin Artaud always has been one of my favorite poets. The German edition DIE FRAGE STELLT SICH [also published by Edition Schwarze Seite] is a short text on his struggle for surviving in a French mental diseases hospital where he had been incarcerated for 8 years ?- a strong pamphlet against psychiatrists of the 1930 to 1945 years. His brilliant text on "Van Gogh´s suicide by the society" was an offer of Buechergilde Gutenberg edition to make an artists' book with my etchings.

Sayings from Mark Twain's Pudd'nhead Wilson

1995. RUSCHA, Ed. Sayings from Mark Twain's Pudd'nhead Wilson. By Mark Twain. Illustrated with 10 colour lithographs. Folio, bound in linen cover boards, stained with the letter "S" by Ruscha with bleach, bound in three-quarter leather. Paris & San Francisco: Greve/Hine printed by Limestone Press, 1995. Ruscha has created a book of ten prints based on selected phrases from Mark Twain's "Pudd'nhead Wilson." Each image consists of a wood grain printed in color, a field of bright color, and the dialogue hand-written in what the artist calls his "Boy Scout utility sans serif." Ruscha's choice of provocative text challenges established issues of identity and mistaken identity. They also resonate to larger social and racial issues existing in America today. Signed by Ruscha. One of an edition of 50 copies.
