The complete story is told in the words of Yoko Ono, Bob Gruen and John Lennon himself, and through the intimate photographs - mostly in full colour and previously unpublished - selected from the archive of Bob Gruen." Married to John from 1969 until his death in 1980, Yoko Ono is a Japanese artist, musician, author and peace activist, known for her work in avant-garde art, music and filmmaking as well as her marriage to John Lennon. Present when Lennon was killed, Ono funded the construction and maintenance of the Strawberry Fields memorial in New York City's Central Park and the John Lennon Museum in Saitama, Saitama, Japan. On October 9, 2007, Ono dedicated a new memorial called the Imagine Peace Tower, located on the island of Viðey in Iceland. She also created an exhibit called John Lennon: THE NEW YORK CITY YEARS for the NYC Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex. A controversial figure sometimes, Yoko Ono's dedication to her husband was strong and this book celebrates their relationship. A beautiful set with many colorful photographs. 236 pp.

Invitation to The Patrick Hardy Lecture, Children's Book Circle, at which Pullman was speaking, from Nov. 1997, laid in which adds to the provenance of the book. Lovely copy, unread condition however there is some toning/yellowing at page edges due, no doubt to paper stock used combined with how this copy has been stored. Dust jacket is as new and unclipped apart from a small area at the foot of the front cover where the laminate has lifted slightly from the paper. Carnegie medal badge at top corner of dust jacket; Point on foot of spine as called for. A remarkable example of this signed first edition. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Autograph musical working manuscript draft in short score of the Sinfonisches Vorspiel for large orchestra. The complete work

      - 4 pp. Notated in pencil on 32-stave "Star Nr. 37" music manuscript paper. Large folio (420 x 230 mm.). Unbound. Signed, titled and inscribed to the composer's friend Jürgen Köchel by the composer. Dated May 25, [19]94. Dedicated to the conductor Gerd Albrecht. Scored for triple wind, 4 horns, 3 trombones, tuba, 3 performers on timpani, harp, piano and strings. A very active manuscript, with numerous corrections, amendations, directions and indications pertaining to instrumentation in Schnittke's small, dense hand. Slightly worn. In very good condition overall. Together with a printed edition of the full score published by Sikorski in ca. 1995. Designed as a tribute to the composer on his 60th birthday, the Sinfonisches Vorspiel was first performed at the Musikhalle in Hamburg on November 6, 1994 with the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester, conducted by Albrecht, the dedicatee; the composer was unfortunately unable to attend due to ill-health. Schnittke moved to Hamburg in 1990 to teach composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater. He had had his first stroke in 1985; he suffered a second in 1991 and yet another in the year of composition of the present work, 1994, which left him almost completely paralysed. He went on to write only a few more short works thereafter, and also a Ninth Symphony, but its score was almost completely illegible because he was forced by his paralysis to notate it with his left hand.Schnittke is often considered to be the successor to Shostakovich as Russia's premiere composer. His early music showed the strong influence of Dmitri Shostakovich, but he went on to adopt a very polystylistic approach to composition. As his health worsened, however, he adopted a somewhat bleaker but more accessible style; some Schnittke scholars have argued, in fact, that it is the composer's late works that will ultimately be considered as the most influential of his entire output. A dynamic working manuscript of one of Schnittke's last major orchestral compositions. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

AT THE EDGE OF THE DECIPHERABLE: RECENT PHOTOGRAPHS BY UTA BARTH - DELUXE HARDBOUND SLIPCASED EDITION SIGNED BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER WITH A PRINT

(BARTH, UTA). Smith, Elizabeth A.T.. AT THE EDGE OF THE DECIPHERABLE: RECENT PHOTOGRAPHS BY UTA BARTH - DELUXE HARDBOUND SLIPCASED EDITION SIGNED BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER WITH A PRINT. Signed by the Photographer - with a Signed Print. Los Angeles. 1995 (2002).: Museum of Contemporary Art & St. Ann's Press, First Thus 1/45 Deluxe. Square 8vo. Pictorial Boards in Slipcase. Photography Monograph. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. 54pp, 25 color illustrations. Designed by Paul McMenamin. Originally published in conjunction with her 1995 solo exhibition at Los Angeles' Museum of Contemporary Art, Uta Barth's first publication gorgeously illustrates the artist's then-current body of work. Its hazy color photographs of indistinct residential settings and domestic details are mysteriously evocative and suggestive of great meaning. In 2002, the extraordinary St. Ann's Press produced in collaboration with the artist this new edition of her unavailable catalogue featuring a different cover photograph, and color images for the text illustrations previously reproduced in black and white. Limited to forty-five copies only, this example is from the ultra-deluxe hardbound, slipcased edition NUMBERED (9/45), SIGNED, AND DATED by Uta Barth in black ink on the title page, as issued, that includes a SIGNED AND DATED 9 ¼ x 8 ½" color print entitled "Ground (02.1)" mounted on one inch deep plywood backing. A brand new, pristine example of this uncommon item still in the publisher's original plastic wrapping. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight and value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase. 0-9713681-0-4 Inventory Number: 024084

        Dreams From Father.

New York: Times Books/ Random House, 1995. First edition. Octavo, original half cloth. Inscribed by Barack Obama on the half title page, "To Ant- It is an honor to serve with you in the Senate. Thanks for your friendship, counsel and support! Warm Regards, Barack Obama." The recipient worked with Obama in the Senate. Examples are usually encountered with just a signature, association copies of this magnitude are rare. Fine in a fine dust jacket. "All men live in the shadow of their fathers--the more distant the father, the deeper the shadow. Barack Obama describes his confrontation with this shadow in his provocative autobiography and he also persuasively describes the phenomenon of belonging to two different worlds, and thus belonging to neither At a young age and without much experience as a writer, Barack Obama has bravely tackled the complexities of his remarkable upbringing" (The New York Times). In discussing Dreams from My Father, Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison has called Obama "a writer in my high esteem" and the book "quite extraordinary." She praised "his ability to reflect on this extraordinary mesh of experiences that he has had, some familiar and some not, and to really meditate on that the way he does, and to set up scenes in narrative structure, dialogue, conversation--all of these things that you don't often see, obviously, in the routine political memoir biography. It's unique. It's his. There are no other ones like that."

Hamburg : Verl. St. Gertrude, 1995. 95 S. Mit zahlr. auch farb. Abb. Broschiert.
