ESCOBAR, Pablo.
[Medellín, Colombia: Privately printed], 1992. Quarto (230 x 198 mm). Original padded binding of brown faux leather, spine and front cover lettered in gilt, facsimile signature and fingerprint to front cover, pale blue speckled endpapers. With the original brown card case (embossed with the same cover facsimile). Box showing signs of handling and torn at one corner, spine with slight abrasions to head and small area of glue residue, foxing to top edge of book block extending onto head of margins (occasionally touching contents), otherwise a very good copy in the original box and with a card laid in (bearing the embossed facsimile signature and fingerprint of Escobar) Illustrated throughout with reproductions from photographs and cartoons (4 in colour). First and sole edition of a book shrouded in myth: accounts of its legendary rarity regularly circulate but according to Escobar biographer James Mollison 500 copies were printed, which Escobar sent out as presents to family and friends, "usually with a word of thanks" (The Memory of Pablo Escobar, 2007). "During his stay in La Catedral, an illustrator friend of Escobar's nicknamed 'Guezu' came up with the idea of putting together a book of all the cartoons dedicated to Escobar since he gained notoriety as a politician in 1982" (ibid.). In a 2005 interview with the newspaper El Tiempo de Bogotá, Eliana Cadavid Escobar, wife of Escobar's nephew Nicholas, stated that after Escobar's escape from La Catedral "the family burned almost all the books". Stories abound that as few as ten copies survived this conflagration; certainly n … [Click Below for Full Description]

Seinfeld, Jerry
42 pp rectos only. Legal Folio. Full Draft for "The Pez Dispenser" Episode in Jerry Seinfeld's Hand. The hand-written script by Seinfeld is for the beloved "Pez Dispenser" episode, in which Elaine ruins the piano concert of George's girlfriend by bursting into laughter when Jerry places a Pez dispenser in her lap. It is also the episode in which Kramer joins the polar bear club, creates a brand of cologne called "The Beach" and everyone participates in an intervention for a former softball team-mate who was traumatized by Kramer's suggestion during their final game. Although the writing of the episode is credited to both Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, this is an early (first?) draft attempt by Seinfeld. It includes substantial amounts of dialogue that were omitted in subsequent drafts. There are also many revisions, crossing outs, insertions and the like - all typical of a working draft and all in Seinfled's hand. The episode aired on January 15, 1992. Seinfeld is routinely regarded as one of the best television series ever produced. During its first run it was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Comendy series in 1993, it received the Golden Globe Award for Best TV-series (comedy) in 1994 and in 1995, in 1997 and 1998 it won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Since it finished production, TV Guide awarded it the greatest TV show of all time in both 2002 and 2013. Original Seinfeld material is scarce on the open market. Furthermore, we have not been able to locate any manuscript drafts such as this in either Seinfeld o … [Click Below for Full Description]

Middleton, Harry
Stone Harbor, NJ: Meadow Run Press, 1992. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Peter Corbin. Limited edition of 500, signed by author on limitation page. Octavo (23 cm), pp. 57. Black cloth both blind- and gilt-stamped, with publisher's acetate jacket, and slipcase with paper label. Half a dozen illustrations by sporting artist Peter Corbin, plus frontispiece and slipcase label . Beautiful copy of this cult classic, which was published just before Middleton died unexpectedly at age 43. William Trego of Meadow Run Press printed high-quality fishing books for two decades, and Starlight was one of his early ones. Middleton, whose best-known work was a memoir of his Ozark childhood titled The Earth is Enough, was celebrated as one of America's finest angling writers, but his work transcended the genre into the realm of memoir and natural history. "[T]he Starlight Creek Angling Society was always in session, for the society was not a club really so much as it was another way the old men celebrated their good fortune, a fate that included hardscrabble poverty and the inexorable beauty of Starlight Creek--a bounty of wild water and wild trout they steadfastly refused to compromise..." Glover, Crispin
Volcanic Eruptions, 1992. A collection of first editions and ephemera by Crispin Glover, from the collection of filmmaker Trent Harris. Included are Glover's first three avant-garde books, "Rat-Catching," "Oak Mott," and "Concrete Inspection," all of which were issued in limitations of 1000 copies, and are in this case each the best possible copy, numbered "-01," "0," and "0" respectively, and inscribed in the year of publication (with inscriptions that are colorful to say the least). Also included is a proof of Glover's first book, "Rat-Catching," one of reportedly only a handful of copies created by Glover for promotion, in a much larger format than the resulting book, with each page in a plastic protector, bound with silver clasp-rings. Last is an original poster for a 1979 signing event for Glover's first book. Harris directed a trio of short films between 1979 and 1985 now known as "The Beaver Trilogy," all featuring an eccentric character named "Groovin' Gary," a resident of Beaver, Utah, with whom the director was obsessed. "Gary" played himself in the first film ("The Beaver Kid," 1979), and was then represented by Sean Penn in the second film ("The Beaver Kid 2," 1981), and finally by Glover in the third installment ("The Orkly Kid," 1985). Glover has continued to make books and films, along with live performance art, all of which challenge conventions and boundaries. His work has its roots in the avant-grade, the early work of Werner Herzog and Frederick Wiseman, and the his ongoing interest in the lives of American outsiders and outsider culture. Rigby Graham
Llandogo: The Old Stile Press, 1992. Condition: Fine - Signed. Number 146 of 150 copies, elephant folio size, 58 pp. Rigby Graham (1931-2015) was a landscape and topographical artist, book illustrator and muralist who worked within the British Romantic tradition. His work is distinguished by bold lines, a formalistic understanding of structure, and dramatic use of colour, alike to German expressionism. The text of this volume was conceived in hospital during an extended treatment for cancer, where he retreated into recollections of the past to escape the sterile detention of the infirmary; the overall structure of the book is built around that method of circumvention during a time of calamity. The feature of the book are the colour woodcuts, which include four double-page images composed with four to six blocks each; there are also five single-page images printed in three colours to give a glowing 'monochrome' effect. As Graham shares in his introduction: "Cuts would be the answer. Woodcuts. I had always like the stiff angularity of woodcuts. The wood was not only unyielding, it bit back with a ferocity more readily associated with a rabid dog. Perhaps it is because of our civilised pattern of living that we tend unthinkingly to look on many natural things as attractive and somehow imply, or suggest, 'gentle'. We imbue them at times with qualities they do not actually possess...." Here, then, is a travelogue of the mind, reflections on woodcuts and the images made using them, infused with the philosophical musings of a man whose body was recently "hacked at by surgeons" as … [Click Below for Full Description]

Ezra Weston Loomis Pound (1885-1972) was a major figure in the early modernist movement; his early poetry was devoted to the development of Imagism, a movement derived from classical Chinese and Japanese poetry, stressing clarity, precision and economy of language. Of this work, Cathay, Chinese critic Wai-lim Yip writes: "One can easily excommunicate Pound from the Forbidden City of Chinese studies, but it seems clear that in his dealings with Cathay, even when he is given only the barest details, he is able to get into the central concerns of the original author by what we may perhaps call a kind of clairvoyance" (N.B., above info from Wiki). New York: The Viking Press, 1992. First Edition. First edition. A uniquely decorated copy, fully marbled in purple, blue, yellow, and red by Kesey on covers as well as edges. Painted signature of Kesey on front free endpaper. According his son Zane, Ken began experimenting with marbling techniques in 1964 while traveling on the bus FURTHUR and dropping acid for the first time. Oil paint floating in a puddle entranced the Merry Pranksters and they began dipping objects into the mixture, creating instant objet d'art. Later in his life Kesey returned to this technique, psychedelically marbling, finishing, and signing around 15-20 books total. This is one of those scarce copies.
