Isaac Asimov
Doubleday, 1991. Very good. Please see full description and photos for details. Isaac Asimov collection, Doubleday science fiction imitation leather book set. 13 of 14 volumes (missing "The Robots of Dawn"). Only published via subscription from 1991-1992. This is a previously owned set that is in very good condition, but it does have flaws and I want you to be aware of them before you make your purchase. I would much rather over-describe than have you experience any surprises. I want you to be happy with your purchase. The biggest flaw is that it is missing the 14th book, "The Robots of Dawn." Several of the books have some very minor scuffing to their pictorial covers (if there is more than minor scuffing, I will note it with the specific book details). None of the books have any writing or marks of any kind inside them. Most appear to have never been read. In addition to that, please see all the pictures and note: *The Stars, Like Dust: very minor scuffing to cover corners. There is a small surface scratch on the pictorial cover (see photo--it's the picture zoomed in on the space boots). The bottom edge of the spine looks like it has been bumped (in the same photo). *Foundation's Edge: a little more scuffing to this pictorial cover than some of the others. Very slightly scuffed cover corners. The text block is somewhat dirty in places. *Prelude to Foundation: this is the only book of the set that seems to me as though it was actually read--there are two pages inside the book that I saw with light dirt smudges, and on a few pages in the front (near the author's note) ther … [Click Below for Full Description]

Harcourt Brace and Company, 1991. First American edition of the Nobel-Prize winning author's second book to be translated into English. SIGNED on the half title page by Jose Saramago. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Translated by Giovanni Pontiero. The Portugese writer Jose Saramago is the recipient of both the 1995 Camões Prize and 1998 Nobel Prize in Literature. Harold Bloom described him as "the greatest living novelist" and considers him to be "a permanent part of the Western canon (Evans, 2002). The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis is "[t]he greatest of his novels" (New Statesman), "[a] capacious, funny, threatening novel" (New York Times Review of Books). Saramago "has created a body of work of luminous power: ironic, intellectually playful, dense and strange" (Scotsman). "A patient, old fashioned novel full of dialogue and detail, mist, streets, squares, statues, meals, rooms, neighbors, life in a particular hotel of modest pretentions. Ao much 'reality,' carefully documented, lovingly piled up" (The New York Times). [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]
