        An Antarctic Diary

1992 Abilene Tx, Four-O Publishing 1992 - 1st Thus. Signed by Author Quarter-Leather. This is a magnificent and extremely rare volume. Geologist Charles F. Passel served on the famous 1939-1941 Antarctic expedition under the command of Admiral Byrd. These are his diaries from that expedition and this offering was published in 1992. Previous editions of the diary had been edited and expurgated. In this edition Mr. Passel insisted on the diary being published exactly as it was written, with misspellings and other anomalies intact. The author said that he wanted these pages exactly as he wrote them with his frozen fingers in the Antarctic. No editing was to be done. This copy is one of only forty copies published that were signed by the author. It is presented in the publisher's beautiful clamshell presentation box and the book is quarter-bound in pigskin over marbled boards. This volume is flawless. The binding and the case remind one of the chilly Antarctic landscape and in fact the binder actually read the book to draw inspiration for her design. The reading is wonderful.I was at a Bookshow some time ago and was lucky enough to speak with the publisher regarding the book. I bought all of his available copies as I had sold the two copies that I had previously owned. This is the last copy. For those of you who are fascinated with Antarctic exploration, it doesn't get much better than this and there are truly very few copies available. We are pleased to send pictures on request.         "Fairies Dancing Round A Cake"

: , 1992. A Sweet, Beautifully Framed Children's Watercolor KELLY, Becky, artist. "Fairies Dancing Round A Cake". [n.p., ca. 1992]. Original watercolor illustration, painted on watercolor stock with ink line work, signed "B. Kelly" on lower right-hand corner. Image size: 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches; 88 x 140 mm.) Beautifully matted, framed and glazed. (Frame size 9 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches; 241 x 290 mm.). Depicting six sweet fairy children and a little bear dancing around cake, this illustration was originally painted for a teacup design. A similar computerized version was created for a design for Marcel Schurman, for greeting cards, birthday cards and thank you notes. Additionally, a version of this illustration was licensed in several gift books and calendars by Andrews McMeel Universal. Beautifully framed with a light green printed mat. Rebecca Kelly, who publishes under Becky Kelly, is an American watercolor illustrator of over forty books, greeting cards, calendars and children's and baby's products. She was raised in West Virginia and currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri. Becky Kelly began experimenting with watercolor painting in grade school and often accompanied her father, an architect and painter, on painting trips to the countryside. She won many local art competitions in high school and went on to study painting, illustration, and design at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After graduating, Kelly accepted a position as an illustrator at Hallmark Cards, leaving in 1992 to pursue freelance illustration. Due to her work's popularity, Hallmark eventually built an entire line of greeting cards and gift-related products under the product line 'Spoonful of Stars by Becky Kelly'. In 2001, she formed Becky Kelly Studios, launching her own line of licensed greeting cards and paper products, published under companies including Marcel Schurman's Papyrus division, Antioch Publishing and Peaceable Kingdom Press. Over the years she has been a frequent contributor to award-winning children's magazines such as Ladybug magazine, Spider (magazine), Cricket (magazine), and Weekly Reader. She has also worked with educational publishers Scholastic, D.C. Heath, Grolier, and Brown, among others. Kelly has often worked with writer Patrick Regan to create popular gift books published by Andrews McMeel Publishing that are consistently available at major retailers such as Borders Bookstores in the US, Indigo Books in Canada, and . Kelly's illustrations often feature children enjoying nature in idyllic, fantasy-touched settings, such as a child sitting on a moon and child fairies engaging with animals. She frequently employs a soft color palette to create gently rich scenes that distinguish her unique style. A recurring theme in her work are the family relationships and friendships in a child's life. "Becky Kelly creates a world seemingly suspended in time: a world where children dangle their toes in clear running streams; best friends giggle and daydream in the comfortable crook of an ancient tree; and ethereal fairies doze on dew-dappled leaves."       Spektrum Akademischer Verlag, 1992.

        Bring Me Your Love

Santa Rosa: Black Sparrow Press. 1992. Eighth printing. Illustrated by R. Crumb. Quarto. Quarter cloth and illustrated papercovered boards. Boards slightly bumped, else near fine in very good original unprinted acetate dustwrapper. Inscribed by Bukowski to poet Charles Plymell: "To Charles Plymell. May the gods be good to you. Charles Bukowski," along with his characteristic self-portrait with a jug. Also Inscribed by Robert Crumb: "to Charlie Plymell from R. Crumb, Who Is Now, Spring of '93, A Cake-Eater Living in the South of France... Who'd A' Thought...?"Laid into the book is a later, densely written Autograph Postcard Initialed by Crumb ("R.C.") to Plymell. The postcard acknowledges receipt of a parcel (not present) from Plymell containing a copy of his book "Eat Not Thy Mind" (also not present), and an interview with the co-publisher of the book, Thurston Moore. Crumb expresses his hopes that Plymell is "...sending a 'courier girl' to give me a copy of your Last of Moccasins collage novel" and expounding on the possibilities: "Maybe she'll be a wild, young, adventurous Bohemian with a shapely ass who will let me maul her because I'm a famous, 'hip' artist/cartoonist... ." He also comments in some detail about the overwhelming amount of female pulchritude viewable in New York City compared to the otherwise bucolic French countryside. An interesting and important association. In San Francisco in 1968, Plymell published Zap Comix #1 which featured the work of Crumb and in many ways could be considered Crumb's breakthrough publication. .

        Fairies Dancing Round A Cake

: , 1992 - A Sweet, Beautifully Framed Children's WatercolorKELLY, Becky, artist. "Fairies Dancing Round A Cake". [n.p., ca. 1992].Original watercolor illustration, painted on watercolor stock with ink line work, signed "B. Kelly" on lower right-hand corner.Image size: 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches; 88 x 140 mm.) Beautifully matted, framed and glazed. (Frame size 9 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches; 241 x 290 mm.).Depicting six sweet fairy children and a little bear dancing around cake, this illustration was originally painted for a teacup design. A similar computerized version was created for a design for Marcel Schurman, for greeting cards, birthday cards and thank you notes. Additionally, a version of this illustration was licensed in several gift books and calendars by Andrews McMeel Universal. Beautifully framed with a light green printed mat.Rebecca Kelly, who publishes under Becky Kelly, is an American watercolor illustrator of over forty books, greeting cards, calendars and children's and baby's products. In 2001, she formed Becky Kelly Studios, launching her own line of licensed greeting cards and paper products, published under companies including Marcel Schurman's Papyrus division, Antioch Publishing and Peaceable Kingdom Press.Over the years she has been a frequent contributor to award-winning children's magazines such as Ladybug magazine, Spider (magazine), Cricket (magazine), and Weekly Reader. She has also worked with educational publishers Scholastic, D.C. Heath, Grolier, and Brown, among others. Kelly has often worked with writer Patrick Regan to create popular gift books published by Andrews McMeel Publishing that are consistently available at major retailers such as Borders Bookstores in the US, Indigo Books in Canada, and Amazon.com.Kelly's illustrations often feature children enjoying nature in idyllic, fantasy-touched settings, such as a child sitting on a moon and child fairies engaging with animals. She frequently employs a soft color palette to create gently rich scenes that distinguish her unique style. A recurring theme in her work are the family relationships and friendships in a child's life. "Becky Kelly creates a world seemingly suspended in time: a world where children dangle their toes in clear running streams; best friends giggle and daydream in the comfortable crook of an ancient tree; and ethereal fairies doze on dew-dappled leaves."
