        Farmers. Progressive proofs

[Stockholm: Midnight Paper Sales Press], 1992. Edition limited to 15 sets only (this, no. 13), numbered and signed by Schanilec; folio, cream paper chemise with a vignette wood engraving, beige linen clam-shell box by the Campbell-Logan Bindery, black leather label on spine lettered in gilt. In 1989 Schanilec created four multiple color wood engravings for the book, Farmers. While printing the engravings, progressive proofs were set aside.         Album of 48 Indian Watercolors Painted on Mica

      - Wonderful folk art-ish paintings of Indian musicians, craftsmen, dancers, etc. 8vo. 22.5 by 18.5 cm. 12 leaves, with four paintings mounted onto the rectos of each of these leaves. Mica painting has a long tradition as a technique for artists to trace existing works. The type of mica paintings here, representing occupations, ceremonies and artistic performances, were made exclusively for European patrons, most typically, employees of the East India Company, as momentos of their time in India. (See M. Archer, "Company Paintings, Indian Paintings of the British Period", published by the Victoria and Albert Museum, 1992, pp. 193-201.) The leaves are thick, almost of a card stock, yet heavily toned and verging on brittle. The paintings were mounted with a glue which unsurprisingly left an impression visible behind the clear mica. A number of the paintings had become detached and were remounted, and generally the paintings are just loosely attached and without care any of them could become loose. The leather binding is scuffed and has a good amount of rubbing, especially along the edges, and a few abrasions. The boards, which are original, are of morocco, while the spine is from a rebacking and is a calf. Nonetheless, the match between the two works rather well. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

The Border Trilogy: All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing, and Cities of the Plain

New York: Knopf, 1992, 1994 and 1998. Three volumes. First editions, first printings. Publisher's black cloth, lettered in gilt; in the original pictorial dust jackets designed by Chip Kidd, lettered in black. A fine set; in fine unclipped dust jackets. A bright and fresh set. The Border Trilogy is a series comprised of three novels: All the Pretty Horses (1992), The Crossing (1994), and Cities of the Plain (1998). Notably, McCarthy won the National Book Award in 1992 for All the Pretty Horses, creating much anticipation for the trilogy's subsequent novels. Like many of McCarthy's novels, the series is set on a ranch along the southwest border region between the United States and Mexico and features the cowboy protagonists John Grady Cole and Billy Parham, both of whom are "bound by nature to horses and cattle and range." Interestingly, the first two novels have little in common other than their geographies; All the Pretty Horses and The Crossing tell the stories of the young Cole and Parham, respectively, while Cities of the Plain ties to the trilogy together with the story of their adult friendship.. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Fine/Dust Jacket Included.

Rumpole Of The Bailey : Rumpole And The Eternal Triangle

Thames Television, Teddington 1992 - 104 mimeographed script pp., unpaginated scene breakdown, unit list, and rehearsal room location, the whole secured with split pin to top left corner. McKern's numbered scene tags to leading edges. A well-preserved, near fine copy. First edition. LEO 'RUMPOLE' McKERN'S WORKING SCRIPT FOR SERIES SEVEN, EPISODE THREE OF RUMPOLE OF THE BAILEY. WITH HIS NOTES, AMENDMENTS AND UNDERLININGS THROUGHOUT. Between 1978 and 1992, John Mortimer and Leo McKern collaborated on seven series of the television show Rumpole of the Bailey, adapted by Mortimer from his own books, and starring McKern in the title role. Although the show was a huge success, relations between its star and writer were often strained. McKern was frequently troubled by the growing realisation that he was going to be remembered for playing Rumpole on ITV rather than Iago at the RSC; Mortimer, while grateful to McKern for Rumpole's success, knew his star felt this way, and was understandably displeased. The relationship never became fond, but the two remained in touch after the series came to an end. Although the title page of this script announces this story as episode four of the seventh series, it was broadcast as episode three, on 12 November 1992. The Rumpole stories were all written originally for television, and later adapted by Mortimer for publication in book form. The stories in this, the final series of Rumpole, were published by Mortimer as Rumpole On Trial [Viking, 1992].
