        Pre-landscape / Hatsukuni

Heibon-Sha, Tokyo 1992 - 4to.: illustrated throughout in black-and-white; khaki green textured endpapers; gray boards stamped in black; pictorial dust-jacket embossed in silver; original black and silver obi (belly-band). As a co-founder of the short-lived, yet highly influential Provoke Magazine in the late 1960s, Takanashi is well known for his gritty urban documentary landscapes, which depict a postwar Japanese society as it transforms into a global economic power. His raw and confrontational images employ the blurred and out of focus ?are, bure, boke? visual style that helped define the Provoke Era in Japan. The book starts with a quote from the French writer Jean-Marie G. Le Clezio, ?I walk on this flatland with never any purpose,? which serves to highlight the duality between the abstract and concrete time that sets the tone for the 1980-1990 images Takanashi took while traveling the entire length of Japan.       (VISIONAIRE). Gan, Stephen, James Kaliardos & Cecilia Dean, Editors. VISIONAIRE NO. 7: BLACK (FALL 1992) - DISPLAY COPY. New York: Visionaire Publishing, 1992. First Edition 1/1500. 4to. Loose Plates in a Portfolio. Fashion Quarterly. Near Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. Individual sheets laid into a silkscreened, die-cut portfolio, profusely illustrated in monochrome. Designed by Mats Gustafson and Stephen Gan. Published in an edition of one thousand, five hundred copies, this is the seventh installment of everyone's favorite long-running luxe fashion quarterly, Visionaire. "With "Black", Visionaire doubled in size-and also in price. The issue was inspired by the season's all-black Comme des Garcons collection, Edward Gorey's macabre cartoons, and by artist Antoni Tapies. It was about darkness, the night, shadows, and what you may or may not see when you squint your eyes. A traditional artist's portfolio case tied with three black ribbons, provided the concept for the packaging. The die-cut letters were based on tears Stephen had made with scrap paper that enabled, once again, different first pages to peek through the cover". The contributors to this noir-ish issue are editor Stephen Gan, Edward Gorey, Ruben Toledo, Bill Cunningham, Elaine Gan, Juan Botas, Bruce Weber, Mats Gustafson, Mario Testino, Francois Berthoud, Karen Park, Gregory Foley, Bernard Figueroa, David McDonough, Mika Mizutani, Max Vadukl, Satoshi Sakusa, Peter Lindbergh, Ross Bleckner, Michel Haddi, Enrique Badulescu, Andrew Brucker, Philippe Salomon, Noelle Hoeppe, James Dignan, Michael Capotosto, Michael Stratton, and John Callahan; with a unique hand-assembled photcollage by Kristina Colovic. A most handsome hors commerce display example of this uncommon issue marked "XXX" by the publisher on the rear cover. It has been priced accordingly. Visionaire's own price for this out-of-print back issue is $2,500.00 - when available.         Grand Prix Suisse.

Bern, Hallwag, 1992 - 4°, 623 S., unzählige teilw. farb. Abb., OLwd, geprägt in Schmuckschuber, Moin gebrauchspurig, tadell. 6000 gr. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1992. First Edition. 8vo, publisher&#146;s original cloth backed black boards, in the illustrated dustjacket with Publisher&#146;s Weekly blurb and first letter on front flap in colour. 302 pp. A very fine copy in a very fine dustjacket, as pristine and mint. FIRST EDITION. Basis for the movie featuring Matt Damon, Henry Thomas, and Penélope Cruz. First volume in The Border Trilogy. Winner of both the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award. Its romanticism, in contrast to the bleakness of McCarthy&#39;s earlier work, brought the writer much public attention. The novel tells of John Grady Cole, a sixteen year old cowboy who grew up on his grandfather&#39;s ranch in San Angelo, Texas.<br> All the books of the "Border Trilogy" are written in an unconventional format which omits traditional Western punctuation such as quotation marks and makes use of polysyndetic syntax in a manner similar to that of Ernest Hemingway.

Hill House. New;. 1992. Hardcover. 0947352163 . 36 Plates. BRAND NEW! This is not a mere reproduction. This is an exact facsimile of an original held in the Libraries of the British Museum (Natural History) in London and Tring. It is not a reproduction, because no camera was used in transferring the images from the originals. The paper used is 130 gsm mat art paper. This facsimile carries faithfully every spot, mark or stain as the original. It also carries the original Museum Department of Zoology stamps, and librarian&#39;s annotations. The color printing is so accurate that, from behind glass, the naked eye would be unable to distinguish the original from the facsimile. This facsimile is exactly the same size as the original (Imperial Folio: 22" x 15"). It is cased-in and bound between 4 mm. The boards are covered in special Japanese Saifu cloth, gold stamped on the spine, and with the gold Crown Cipher of the British Museum (Natural History) on the front, and blind embossed on the inner margin of the front boards. The end-papers are of special wood-free heavy grade paper, printed in a generated repetitive pattern of the Museum&#39;s Library stamps. The publisher has not intruded into the authenticity of the book, leaving the publication data printed only on the very last page at the end of the book block. This book is individually numbered on the inside front board, hand wrapped in protective brown paper, and placed in its own crush-proof outer carton. The carton is then sealed, numbered and signed on the outside by the printer&#39;s quality control officer. ; Vol. 1 .
