Edition limited to 50 copies (this, no. 9), signed by the printer and designer, James Trissel, and also by the photographer, Stuart Klipper; oblong folio, pp. [50] and but for the title-page spread, printed on rectos only; with 28 mounted black & white photographs, each approx. 3" x 4"; bound with concertina guards around signatures to compensate for the tipped-in photos, in pale blue Japanese cloth over boards, silver-stamped spine, in matching cloth slipcase. Presentation copy from Trissel on the colophon: "To Greg Campbell with many, many thanks..." Shamlessly taken from a catalogue description by the Bromers: The photographs were taken by "Stuart Klipper during an expedition to Antarctica in 1987. Klipper had joined the crew of the Bermudian yacht War Baby on a two-and-a-half-month journey that covered over 4000 nautical miles. The text accompanying the images consists of excerpts from the log of the War Baby's skipper, Warren Brown, and quotations from the renowned Irish ice-sailor, John Gore Grimes." Laid in are 3 letters from Jiim Trissel to Greg Campbell, Campbell-Logan Bindery, (1) asking if he (Greg) would be interested in binding the book; (2) reporting on the progress of the printing and the mounting of the photographs, and getting the sheets ready to ship; and (3) a letter of presentation enclosing the book itself.

Hirschfeld: Art and Recollections from Eight Decades

Murray Abraham, Stockard Channing, Bernadette Peters, Uta Hagen, Eli Wallach, B.D. Wong and Jack Klugman.Al Hirschfeld's devotion to line comes from a fundamental aesthetic—respect for absolute simplicity: ""When I'm rushed I do a complicated drawing. When I have the time, I do a simple one."" Hirschfeld: Eight Decades provides a fantastic retrospective of this artist's prolific career, with an introduction by Alistair Cooke and an essay by Hirschfeld on his beginnings and his process. ""The drawing itself, whether it is of Chaplin or Garbo or someone completely unknown, has to communicate something about the personality that exists in that human being I am drawing.         THE ORIGINAL HOLOGRAPHIC STUDIO LYRICS FOR INNARDS DECAY FROM THE ALBUM BUTCHERED AT BIRTH (1991)

1991. "Rotting alive, tearing my way through the meat/ Driven to kill, my brain twitching for guts/ Devoted to evil, severed arteries gush/ Hungry for the blood..." Ah, the classics! With this and the other nine tracks on Butchered at Birth, Cannibal Corpse abandoned the thrash elements of previous efforts and carved out a far more brutal death metal sound with grunting vocals and a pummeling drum and guitar attack. Produced by Scott Burns at the famous Morrisound studio in Tampa, Florida, this album was banned in Germany and refused by retailers who objected to its gory cover art and equally twisted lyrical descriptions of dismemberment, torture, and masochism. Handwritten in the hand of vocalist Chris Barnes on two sheets of 8 ½

Accompanied by the postmarked mailing envelope 9.5"" x 4"" with small surface smudge, and the Newspaper clipping referred to in his letter (clipped from The Ledger Lakeland, Florida, but originally printed in the New York Times Sunday edition), with a handwritten note and date along top edge.Richard Nixon pens a note to Bill Breseman, about an article he wrote in the Sunday New York Times regarding the ongoing Gulf crisis in January 1991. His lengthy newspaper article provides his strong opinions about Hussein ""It is time for some straight talk about why 400,000 young Americans spent Christmas in the deserts of Saudi Arabia….We must first be clear what the conflict is not about… If we must resort to military force to drive Saddam Hussein from Kuwait, it will not be a war about democracy"" Having then backed his viewpoints with his confirmed conclusion that ""We are in the Persian Gulf for two major reasons. First Hussein has unlimited ambitions to dominate one of the most important strategic areas in the world…Had we not intervened an international outlaw would today control more than 40 percent of the worlds oil…What happens to the economies of other great industrial nations directly affects the economy of the United States. We can not allow Hussein to blackmail us and our allies into accepting his aggressive goals by giving him a choke hold on our oil lifeline""But Nixon then draws the bigger picture, ultimately one of preventing a world war as oil equates to the funding of arms allowing Hussein to grow his power ""Because he has oil he has the means to acquire the weapons he needs for aggression against his neighbors, eventually including nuclear weapons..But we can be sure that if Hussein profits from aggression, other potential aggressors in the world will be tempted to wage war against their neighbors.""In his ALS to Bill Breseman, Nixon sums up his newspaper article ""My views are simple. We all want peace but while war is bad, a bad peace is worse because it will lead to bigger war"" Nixon holds a strong view about the domino effect of the war in the middle east thus validating the need to take our US troops away from our home soil and fight abroad. A revealing letter paired with his interesting published commentary."

        The Steel Albatross

Pocket Books, New York, NY 1991 - Signed " Scott Carpenter" on title page in black ink. Scott Carpenter, a dynamic pioneer of modern exploration, has the unique distinction of being the only human ever to penetrate both inner and outer space, thereby acquiring the dual title, Astronaut/Aquanaut. He was born in Boulder, Colorado, on May 1, 1925, the son of research chemist Dr. M. Scott Carpenter and Florence Kelso Noxon Carpenter. He attended the University of Colorado from 1945 to 1949 and received a bachelor of science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Carpenter was commissioned in the U.S. Navy in 1949. He was given flight training at Pensacola, Florida and Corpus Christi, Texas and designated a Naval Aviator in April, 1951. During the Korean War he served with patrol Squadron SIX, flying anti-submarine, ship surveillance, and aerial mining missions in the Yellow Sea, South China Sea, and the Formosa Straits. He attended the Navy Test Pilot School at Patuxent River, Maryland, in 1954 and subsequently was assigned to the Electronics Test Division of the Naval Air Test Center. In the assignment he flew tests in every type of naval aircraft including multi and single-engine jet and propeller-driven fighters, attack planes, patrol bombers, transports, and seaplanes. From 1957 to1959 he attended the Navy General Line School and the Navy Air Intelligence School and was then assigned as Air Intelligence Officer to the Aircraft Carrier, USS Hornet. Carpenter was selected as one of the original seven Mercury Astronauts on April 9, 1959. He underwent intensive training with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), specializing in the fields of communication and navigation. He served as backup pilot for John Glenn during the preparation for America's first manned orbital space flight. Carpenter flew the second American manned orbital flight on May 24, 1962. He piloted his Aurora 7 spacecraft through three revolutions of the earth, reaching a maximum altitude of 164 miles. The spacecraft landed in the Atlantic Ocean about 1000 miles southeast of Cape Canaveral after 4 hours and 54 minutes of flight time. On leave of absence from NASA, Carpenter participated in the Navy's Man-in the-Sea Project as an Aquanaut in the SEALAB II program off the coast of La Jolla, California, in the summer of 1965. During the 45-day experiment, Carpenter spent 30 days living and working on the ocean floor. He was team leader for two of the three ten-man teams of Navy and civilian divers who conducted deep sea diving activities based in a sea floor habitat at a depth of 205 feet. He returned to duties with NASA as Executive Assistant to the Director of the Manned Spaceflight Center and was active in the design of the Apollo Lunar Landing Module and in underwater extravehicular activity (EVA) crew training. In 1967, he returned to the Navy's Deep Submergence Systems Project (DSSP) as Director of Aquanaut Operations during the SEALAB III experiment. (The DSSP office was responsible for directing the Navy's Saturation Diving Program, which included development of deep-ocean search, rescue, salvage, ocean engineering, and Man-in-the-Sea capabilities.) Upon retirement from the Navy in 1969, Carpenter founded and was chief executive officer of Sear Sciences, Inc., a venture capital corporation active in developing programs aimed at enhanced utilization of ocean resources and improved health of the planet. In pursuit of these and other objectives, he worked closely with the French oceanographer J.Y. Cousteau and members of his Calypso team. He has dived in most of the world's oceans, including the Artic under ice. As a consultant to sport and professional diving equipment manufacturers, he has contributed to design improvements in diving instruments, underwater breathing equipment, swimmer propulsion units, small submersibles, and other underwater devices.
