Original Portrait Photograph - signed in green ink by Philip Glass.

no place, no year (c.1990).. Original Black-and-White Photograph on archival paper. Excellent condition, mounted. Signed photographs by Glass are extremely rare !. Philip Morris Glass (born January 31, 1937) is an American composer. He is considered one of the most influential music makers of the late 20th century. His music is also often controversially described as minimal music, along with the work of the other "major minimalists" La Monte Young, Terry Riley and Steve Reich. Glass has distanced himself from the "minimalist" label, describing himself instead as a composer of "music with repetitive structures". Though his early mature music shares much with what is normally called "minimalist", he has since evolved stylistically. Currently, he describes himself as a "classicist", pointing out that he is trained in harmony and counterpoint and studied such composers as Franz Schubert, Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with Nadia Boulanger. Glass has founded his namesake musical group, Philip Glass Ensemble, with which he still performs on keyboards, as well as operas, musical theatre works, ten symphonies, eleven concertos, solo works, chamber music including string quartets and instrumental sonatas, and film scores. Three of his film scores have been nominated for Academy Awards. (Wikipedia)

        Bear Pond

Bulfinch, 1990, Hardcover (Original Cloth), Book Condition: Fine Condition, Dust Jacket Condition: Fine, First EditionWEBER, BRUCE. Bear Pond, quarto, first edition, Bulfinch, 1990, pp. (viii), 200, beige cloth boards with title stamped in white lettering, paper dust jacket. 105 black and white plates, male nudes in pastoral settings, plus the eight page Reynolds Price poem "Gold Day." "In Bear Pond ... the portraitist and photographer Bruce Weber dwelt on the plastic beauty of the athletic male body. His sculptural nudes are often very natural and relaxed, and are reminiscent of those by the German naturist photographers of the inter-war years; the fascination they exude is of an unmistakeably homoerotic nature." -- Alessandro Bertolotti, "Books of Nudes" Dust jacket shows faint rubbing at some corners, no tears. Boards show a bit of wear at extremities, leaves tight with some darkening at edges, pinhole-size mark at top edge. Size: Quarto.         L'ombre d'un cri

Gilles Couttet 1990 - Copy 42/49.Flexible tan box calf, Alcontara Suèdine endpapers. Box calf onlays in medium brown, dark brown, rust, and red. Japanese paper covered clamshell box with leather spine label. Bound by Christine Giard. 19 x 26 cm.Yves Peyré (b. 1952) is a French writer and librarian. He is the co-author, with H. George Fletcher, of Art Deco Bookbindings: The Work of Pierre Legrain and Rose Adler (Princeton University Press, 2004). His introductory essay begins:"A bookbinding is an ambiguous thing. It is physically attached to the book and thus relates to its meaning and typography: but it is also an image. Even more radically, is it a structure that rapidly becomes an object in its own right."Christine Giard has been studying and teaching bookbinding for over 35 years. Her formal academic background is in the sciences, but her true love has always been the arts: literature, drawing, painting, music, and nature photography. Christine discovered bookbinding while she was creating floral art, one of many ways she found to combine art with her love of nature. In bookbinding, Christine found the perfect combination of her interests and talents. She immerses herself completely in the combination of the precision required in binding structures of all kinds, the attributes of the (mostly) natural materials involved, the freedom to choose or create the materials she uses to realize her designs, and the opportunities to never, ever stop learning. Her passion and creativity is evident in her bindings. Christine’s design aesthetic leans toward minimalism, but her use of unexpected techniques and materials create a tightly controlled tension that makes her work vibrate with energy.Christine is trained in trade binding, design binding, restoration, conservation binding, paper-making, and several paper marbling and dyeing techniques. She loves that she can work in all of these areas and combine them as she chooses.Christine has studied with many reknowned bookbinding artists, including: Micheline de Bellefroid, Michel Richard, Hugo Peller, Edwin Heim, Vladimir Tchekeroul, Sun Evrard, Helene Jolis, Edgard Claes, and Anne Goy. "Taken together, this quartet of novels has given its readers a wonderfully vivid portrait of one Harry (Rabbit) Angstrom . . . The books have also created a Kodachrome-sharp picture of American life . . . from the somnolent 50s . . . into the uncertainties of the 80s" (The New York Times).         Weiblicher Akt in Rückenansicht.

      - Bleistift, auf Velin, rechts oben datiert „23 Juny 41". 32,4:18,1 cm. Literatur: I. Koszinowski/V. Leuschner, Marburg 1990, I 37. Obwohl der Akt nach rechts gewendet dargestellt ist, handelt es sich bei unserem Blatt vermutlich um eine Vorstudie zu einer Illustration zu „Dornröschen, die Königin im Bade, um 1840" (op. cit. I 35, I 36).

        Westwind

London, Barrie and Jenkins, 1990., 1990. FIRST EDITION. 8vo., pp. 224. Hardcover in dustwrapper. INSCRIBED by the author on title page to 'Apple' Jon Curt, flat-mate and fellow student of English at Edinburgh University, who graduated with first class honours but then abandoned his doctoral thesis after a year. By way of compensation Rankin made him the pithy 'Dr. Curt', forensic pathologist of the Rebus novels. Rankin has inscribed 'In memory of our Wagner sessions'. Flyleaf with Curt's 'Apple' ownership stamp. Book and wrapper both near fine. As a general rule, books signed by Rankin are not scarce; Important inscriptions are, and this has a wonderful association.

Jurassic Park [Signed Advance Reader's Copy]

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1990. First edition. Wrappers. Fine. A Near Fine to Fine copy of the Advance Reader's Edition for the first edition, first printing of what perhaps is the best-known of Michael Crichton's novels, SIGNED BY MICHAEL CRICHTON on the title page. The book established the foundation for the noted film series which began with the 1993 film of the same name starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, Ariana Richards, Samuel L. Jackson, Wayne Knight, and others. Even prior to the book's publication, major film studios were jockeying to acquire film rights to the novel and the film became the most successful film as of its time. Notably, while Crichton had never written a sequel to any of his prior novels, the film was so successful that Director Steven Spielberg strongly encouraged Crichton to write a sequel, leading to further films The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997 -- loosely based on Crichton's 1995 novel "The Lost World"), Jurassic Park III (2001 -- not based on any book but with scenes taken from Crichton's first two Jurassic novels), and Jurassic World (2015 -- also not based on any book but continuing the basic Jurassic theme and establishing a record as the biggest global opener of all time). This uncommon Advance Reader's Edition is in Near Fine to Fine condition with only light marking to the page block's closed edges and some tiny pushing to the front wrapper's outer corners. The Advance Reader's Edition of this notable novel is not at all common to the market and copies signed by Michael Crichton are as scarce as hen's teeth. A Fine copy of the QUITE SCARCE ADVANCE READER'S COPY FOR THE NOVEL WHICH ESTABLISHED THE JURASSIC FRANCHISE, SIGNED BY MICHAEL CRICHTON. QUITE SCARCE INDEED.

The artist's work is represented in numerous public collections from the Guggenheim, New York to the Tate Modern, London.

Art+Positive fights homophobia, aidsphobia and censorship in the arts." [Quoted for the last page].An affinity group of ACT-UP, Art+Positive was formed in 1989 in response to the artist Mark Kostabi's homophobic attack on the gay community and people with Aids in the pages of Vanity Fair. Within the article, Kostabi voiced the opinion that "These museum curators, that are for the most part homosexual, have controlled the art world in the eighties. Now they're all dying of AIDS, and although I think its sad, I know its for the better. Because homosexual men are not actively participating in the perpetuation of human life." Founded by Aldo Hernandez, Hunter Reynolds, and Bill Dobbs, the group organized in protest of Kostabi's remarks, the Helm's Amendment and instances of homophobia and AIDS phobia in the art world.
