        ANTONIO LOPEZ GARCIA

Rizzoli International Publications, Inc., New York 1990 - 360pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. With a biography, exhibition history and bibliography. "A forerunner of the realist movement centered in Madrid, Antonio Lopez Garcia's work is among the most personal and intense to have appeared in post-war Spain. This book is the first to present all of his known work, and offers the most complete examination of his achievement to date". A handsome copy of the elusive, massive first monograph on the renowned Spanish Impressionist painter and sculptor Antonio Lopez Garcia showing some light brown speckling across the top edge of the textblock as well as some pulling at the hinges - as is typical with this title owing to the weight of the binding. It has been priced accordingly. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight and value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.         Edwardian Golfer

Italy, 1990. Original oil painting on copper. 22k gold leaf frame with brown crackle panel. Marco Ceri lives in Northern Italy where he paints in oil on copper pictures in a very specific genre all his own. They are paintings of English people engaged at polo, golf or tennis during the Edwardian era. A great deal of research provides a high degree of accuracy to every aspect of these scenes including, of course, the attire and sports equipment, but even the postures and demeanors of the participants. The accuracy of the elements however does not intrude on the overall delight expressed in these tableaux. The artist keeps a low profile, enjoying his virtual anonymity. He considers himself a craftsman, who by limiting his sphere of activity, brings that craft closer and closer to perfection. This work bears the alternate signature of the artist: "M.V.", which reflects the use of his middle initial.

Blinds & Shutters [Deluxe, and only, edition]

Genesis Publications, 1990. Deluxe Limited Numbered First Edition. Leather & Buckram. Fine/No Jacket as Issued. A beautiful Limited Numbered First Edition Signed by former Beatle, the late George Harrison and 10 other contributors of the 93 that contributed text and memories to this beautiful edition of photographs by Michael Cooper. Numbered 1000 out of 5000 Signed Limited Editions. The contributors who signed include Tariq Ali, Peter Blake, Colin Self, Bill Wyman, Adam Cooper, Larry Rivers, Gerard Malanga, Billy Al Bengston, Terry Doran and Neil Aspinall. Beautifully bound in leather and buckram in bright yellow & black with red page edges, the book is in fine unread condition. Enclosed in a fine silkscreened solander box, with an image inset on the top, each book's is different. This inset picture is, we believe, of a young Ronnie Wood, of The Faces, and latter the Rolling Stones, from a photograph on p.71of the book. Forewords by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards; Introduction by Terry Southern; Consultancy by Bill Wyman. The most stupendous rock and roll picture book ever assembled. Michael Cooper's superb photographs provide a unique insider's view of the Sixties. It was a prolific and exhilarating period of artistic cross-fertilization. For the first time in Britain the class barriers were really down; in London, everyone seemed to know everyone, and we were unaware how close The Rolling Stones and the Beatles were. Through his association with Robert Fraser and the Stones and The Beatles, Michael met the artists, writers, poets and musicians of the time and the courtiers around them. He introduced these people to each other. Many of those who brilliantly lit up the decade on both sides of the Atlantic were photographed by him. His most well known photographic assignment was the album cover for The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. A beautiful set and scarce when signed by George Harrison.

The Birds and Beasts of Shakespeare. Text by Arthur F. Kinney. Illustrated with Woodengravings by Alan James Robinson

Easthampton, MA: Cheloniidae Press, 1990. Unique copy bound by Mark Esser, from the Cheloniidae edition of125 copies, all on Cheloniidae Rag paper, the first book of the press with Cheloniidae watermark, each signed by the artist, Alan James Robinson. Page size: 10-3/8 x 15- 7/8 x inches - the size of the first folio edition of Shakespeare - Dedication Page, Half-title, engraved frontispiece portrait of Shakespeare in rondel surrounded by the animals, Titlepage, i-iii [iv-v] 1-87 [88-92]pp. Bound by Mark Esser: full dark green morocco "baggy-back" style binding providing unrestrained opening characteristics, leather onlays in black and gilt and blind tooling on front and back panels, design references theater seating, feathers, scales and the eyes and heads of birds. Title and author on inlaid tan inset with "The Birds and Beasts of" in black and "Shakespeare" in deep plum. The binder tells us that the binding structure calls to mind the Elizabethan era featuring typical late Renaissance elements, such as double flexible sewing with laced supports and linen primary endbands with laced cores and silk secondary sewing; all edges gilt, pale green headbands, deep plum doublures blind tooled with same design as covers; binding signed in blind stamp on lower rear turn-in, "Esser." Housed in brown cloth over boards custom-made clamshell box lined with suede. Selected as one of 25 "Distinguished Winners" in the 2013 Designer Bookbinders International Bookbinding Competition. Mark Esser's subtle, inventive design is, indeed, suggestive of theatre seats, as well as eyes and feathers (birds and beasts); it is an elegant binding. Illustrated with 54 woodengravings depicting the birds and beasts found in Shakespeare's plays and poems, plus two portraits of the Bard: one etching and one woodengraving. The woodengravings were accomplished by Robinson on end-grain English boxwood from T.N. Lawrence & Sons of London. The type was set at M & H Type Foundry of San Francisco and printed by Harold Patrick McGrath in black within a caramel-colored rule on each page with Shakespeare's own words in caramel ink. This book uses Shakespeare's original texts addressing the natural history, folklore, and mythology of the birds and beasts in his plays. The text was written by Arthur F. Kinney, Thomas W. Copeland Professor Literary History at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Certainly one of the most ambitious and most beautiful books of the Press worthy of a special binding.

        VISHNU CREW STEWS VINDALOO ANEW

[New York: Purgatory Pie Press, 1990. Aluminum and paper construction, contained in 16mm film canister (24 cm diameter), with printed labels on and inside the upper lid. Fine. Copy #35 of an edition planned to consist of 74 copies. Signed by Bartalos, and by Dikko Faust and Esther K. Smith, principals of the press. The construction contains four accordion-fold booklets, letterpress printed on handmade, Khadi jute paper. Each is bound between aluminum covers, which are die-cut into the profile shapes of a cat, duck, crocodile and man's head. They're attached with nuts and bolts to a circular, revolving disk, hinged to a die-cut figure, in an allusion to multi-headed conceptions of Hindu deities. The whole, when folded, is then inserted into the felt-lined film canister, calculated as an ode to Bollywood. "I was in India on this trip with my college roommate, and I was really struck by the industrialization and the modernization of India, juxtaposed with the traditional aspects of it ... It's such an extrasensory experience being in India, and I wanted to express that in this book. ... Each of the heads tell a story and how the industrialization is changing India very, very fast" - the author/artist quoted in the context of an interview. The publisher's current website and catalogue indicate the work is "temporarily unavailable" at the publication price of $2500.

HISTORIQUE DES FORCES NAVALES FRANÇAISES LIBRES --------- Série complète : 5 Volumes/5

SHD - Paris 1990. 5 volumes/5. -- Comme Neuf -- Reliure éditeur cartonnée demi-toile illustrée. Format in-4°( 30,4 x 21,8 cm )( 12 kgs l'ensemble ). Blinds & Shutters (Signed by Francis Bacon et al.)

Genesis / Hedley 1990 - A limited edition of 5000 copies, of which this is copy 3504; all copies are signed by project originator Bill Wyman and a random selection from the 93 contributors (no two copies are the same), in this instance: Francis Bacon, Billy Al Bengston, Jo Bergman, Peter Blake, Adam Cooper, Terry Doran, Gerard Malanga, Earl McGrath, Colin Self and Dean Stockwell (11 in total). With the exception of the few copies signed by Andy Warhol, those signed by Bacon are the most sought-after of all. A beautiful (and mammoth) production, and perhaps the finest book on the 1960s ‘scene’. Tall, thick folio, featuring Michael Cooper's photographs (best known for shooting the album covers for the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and the Rolling Stones' Their Satanic Majesties Request – he was friends with both bands) and a variety of accounts and reminiscences of the period. Forewords by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards; introduction by Terry Southern. A Fine copy, bound in three-quarter black leather and yellow buckram, resembling a Kodak film container - the yellow buckram shows a little shelfwear to its extremities. Laid into a complete, and Very Good, black-and-yellow solander box, showing some rubbing to the edges and darkening to the yellow colouring; shutter window with an original photograph bound in. Superb. All orders are sent very carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and sturdy cardboard. Shipped free within the United Kingdom; a very large and heavy item that will incur additional shipping (to cost) outside the UK. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Goslarer Evangeliar. Die heiligen Texte der Christenheit

      - Coedition mit der Stadt Goslar. Graz 1990. Insgesamt 30 biblische Szenen, durchgehend Goldinitialen. Einband: Leder. Alle Blätter sind dem Original entsprechend randbeschnitten. Kommentarband: Graz 19 [Attributes: Hard Cover]
